Max walked alone in the hallway, footsteps echoing off the walls as noise leaked through doors and vents, murmurs crawling through the entire building, layered voices stacking on top of each other, everyone awake in the girls' dormitory.
The air felt charged, heavy with agitation and curiosity, like the place itself was holding its breath. Max already knew they were up. He didn't need confirmation. His eyes stayed forward, awareness stretched wide as he moved through the corridor, that bastard had disrupted this place, flipped the atmosphere on its head, turned silence into chaos.
