Chapter 127 - Chapter 127: poison

Su Yiren sat in her dimly lit room, the weight of uncertainty pressing down on her. The door creaked open, and a pair of figures stepped inside, swiftly unfastening the chains that bound her.

"Who are you?" she demanded, instinctively recoiling as they covered her face, dragging her out into the unknown. Panic surged through her as she felt the cool air against her skin, the unfamiliar surroundings heightening her fear.

Once her face was uncovered, she blinked against the bright lights, taking in the room around her. A table laden with food caught her attention, but hesitation gripped her. She was hungry, yet a gnawing fear of poison held her back.

"There's no need to be afraid," a familiar voice broke through her thoughts. It was Xiao Lin. "The food is personally made by me, and it's not poisonous. Just eat, freshen up, and have some rest. Once it's time for the banquet, we will wake you up."

With a cautious heart, Su Yiren approached the food. She took small bites at first, but hunger quickly overtook her reservations. The flavors were comforting, and before long, she was devouring the meal, nearly choking as she rushed to satisfy her cravings.

After finishing, she wandered into the bathroom, finding a fresh set of clothes waiting for her. She took a quick shower, brushing her teeth and washing away the remnants of her past. Stepping into the new outfit, she felt a flicker of hope igniting within her. Perhaps tonight could be a turning point.

Meanwhile, in another part of the penthouse, Bai Zhiqi sat in front of a mirror as makeup artists worked diligently, layering colors and textures onto her face. She felt like a canvas, each brushstroke a reminder of the transformation she was undergoing. Today was the day she would reclaim her identity, rising from the ashes of her past.

As she gazed at her traditional hanfu, a stunning blend of white and red, she reveled in the symbolism. The white represented purity, while the red stood for strength and rebirth. With every layer of makeup, she felt herself becoming more of the woman she longed to be—a phoenix ready to soar.

The door swung open, revealing Xiao Lin. "Ji Lanxue is ready and about to leave for the banquet," she announced.

"Remind her not to forget what we planned and how everything is to go according to the strategy," Bai Zhiqi instructed, her tone sharp and confident.

"Don't worry. She won't mess things up," Xiao Lin replied, her posture relaxed as she prepared to leave.

"What about her? Have you prepared her?" Bai Zhiqi asked, her focus shifting.

"I've already sent a makeup artist to her room. They'll get her ready for the night," Xiao Lin assured her.

"And what of Ji Yanluo?" Bai Zhiqi pressed, a hint of concern slipping into her voice.

"Don't worry. Everything will go as planned," Xiao Lin reassured her before stepping out, leaving Bai Zhiqi alone with her thoughts.

Su Yiren, now dressed in a plain yet artistic blue dress, stood in front of a mirror, her makeup being applied with a gentle touch. Just then, Ji Yanluo walked into the room, and she stood up abruptly, her pulse quickening at his presence.

"Miss Su, I think you now know what you are standing for tonight," Ji Yanluo said, his voice steady and commanding.

She nodded, anxiety mingling with determination. "Mr. Ji, who am I supposed to stand with tonight?" she asked, a hint of fear lacing her tone.

"Once you get there, you'll know," he replied cryptically, turning to leave the room.

As they stepped into the hallway, Su Yiren felt both nervous and exhilarated. She followed Ji Yanluo to the elevator, where Han Su awaited them. Ji Yanluo exchanged a nod with him, and they descended in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

When the elevator doors opened, they stepped into the grand foyer, the atmosphere electric with anticipation. The sounds of laughter and music floated through the air, a stark contrast to the tension that hung around them.

"Remember, stay close to me," Ji Yanluo instructed, his voice low, yet firm.

Su Yiren nodded, steeling herself for the night ahead. As they approached the banquet hall, she felt the weight of her past pressing against her, but beneath it all, a flicker of hope ignited. She was ready to reclaim her narrative, to confront the ghosts that had haunted her for far too long.

Together, they moved forward into the chaos of the banquet, where secrets would unravel, and destinies would collide. The night was just beginning, and both Su Yiren and Bai Zhiqi were determined to emerge from the shadows, ready to face whatever awaited them.
