Chapter 119 - Chapter 119: awake

In the soft glow of Ji Yanluo's penthouse, Bai Zhiqi sat on the edge of the bed, lost in thought. Her eyes were void of emotion, staring blankly at the wall. Though the pallor had faded from her lips, her body still felt frail and weak.

Xiao Lin entered the room, her smile brightening the otherwise somber atmosphere. "You are awake!" she exclaimed, walking toward her.

"Mm," Bai Zhiqi replied, the sound barely escaping her lips.

"Should I go prepare some congee for you?" Xiao Lin asked, her voice filled with warmth.

"Help me out of the bed," Zhiqi said, determination creeping back into her demeanor. Xiao Lin nodded and gently assisted her, guiding her toward the sitting room.

As they walked, Bai Zhiqi looked around the penthouse, realizing that this place had given her warmth when she felt she didn't deserve it. Yet somehow, they had all become entangled in her revenge plan—a revenge she never wanted them to be a part of.

Entering the living room, her gaze caught the headlines displayed on the screen: **The Bai Family Banquet Hall Has Been Reduced to Ashes.**

"What happened to the banquet hall?" she asked, approaching Ji Lanxue and Han Su, who were deep in conversation.

"Burnt," Ji Lanxue replied nonchalantly, her eyes flickering to the screen as if it were just another trivial event.

Bai Zhiqi immediately understood. "Lanxue, don't tell me this is one of your tactics," she said, her tone incredulous, causing Han Su and Xiao Lin to chuckle.

"Hey! Bai Zhiqi, is this the welcome-back party you ought to throw for us?" Ji Lanxue teased, a playful glint in her eye.

"Is it?" Bai Zhiqi shot back, her tone taunting, which prompted Ji Lanxue to roll her eyes dramatically.

"Well, technically, it isn't my idea," Ji Lanxue admitted, a smirk plastered on her face.

"Whose idea was it?" Bai Zhiqi probed, but before she could get an answer, Ji Yanluo's voice broke through the chatter.

"You are awake?" he asked, stepping into the room. Bai Zhiqi turned to find him bare-chested, clad only in pants. Shock washed over her, and she opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Instinctively, she turned her face away, heat rushing to her cheeks.

Ji Yanluo, unfazed by her reaction, walked toward her. He was fully aware of the effect he had on her, and as he stood before her, he deliberately leaned in to reach for a cup, pouring himself some water while maintaining eye contact.

"Bro, what are you doing?" Ji Lanxue asked, her voice dripping with amusement, but Ji Yanluo ignored her, keeping his gaze locked on Bai Zhiqi.

"How is your health?" he asked, his voice steady, a hint of concern lacing his words.

"G-good," she managed to reply, blinking rapidly as she fought to keep her composure.

"Alright," he said, leaning in closer to grab an apple positioned just behind her. Zhiqi felt her heart race as she glanced at him, and a smirk spread across his lips, intensifying the tension in the room.

Han Su, Xiao Lin, and Ji Lanxue exchanged glances, the playful drama unfolding before them captivating their attention. The air was thick with unspoken words, the chemistry between Ji Yanluo and Bai Zhiqi palpable.

As Ji Yanluo leaned even closer, he could feel the warmth radiating from her, and the intensity of his thoughts sharpened. *Bai Zhiqi, after all this, I will propose to you,* he thought, the resolve solidifying in his mind.

In that moment, everything else faded into the background. The chaos of the world outside, the intrigue surrounding the banquet—it all became secondary to the connection he felt with her.

Bai Zhiqi's heart raced as she caught his gaze, the vulnerability in her eyes clashing with the strength she had been trying to reclaim. It was a moment suspended in time, charged with potential and unspoken promises.

"Bai Zhiqi," he murmured, his voice low but filled with intention.

"Y-yes?" she stammered, her breath hitching as she held his gaze, feeling the weight of his words before they were even spoken.

"Let's turn this around," Ji Yanluo said, his eyes unwavering. "Together."

As the atmosphere in the penthouse shifted, Bai Zhiqi felt a surge of hope. The road ahead was uncertain, but with Ji Yanluo by her side, she felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. The banquet might have turned to ashes, but from the ruins, they could rise, stronger than before.

With determination flickering in her heart, she nodded, ready to reclaim her narrative and carve out a future that was truly hers. The game was changing, and for the first time, she felt like she was in control.
