Daniel swallowed a mouthful of healing potion and unleashed his final chant.
The instant the words left his lips, the sand beneath him surged upward, clinging to his legs like a living magnet, and his body moved against his will.
'Okay… it's happening. Calm down, relax,' he told himself, forcing his mind to settle.
Daniel's body stood on its own. The potion slipped from his hands, the red liquid spilling across the ground in a perfect circle, his eyes wide and mouth poised to swallow.
His right hand rose toward his left eye. The moment his fingers touched his skin, he lifted his tongue and swallowed in one smooth motion, believing it would ease the pain
But, little did he know, any temporary effects would be nullified during the ritual.
