"Huh! Huh… huh…" He gasped for air, his chest heaving as though he had been drowning.
Daniel jolted upright in bed. Early morning sunlight was already shining through the window. Sweat soaked his tunic, making it cling to his body in the pale light.
Outside, he could hear wagons rolling past the house, their wheels creaking against the road.
"Agh… what was that dream? It felt real for some reason," he murmured as he got out of bed.
Daniel stepped out onto the balcony and breathed in the fresh morning air. His eyes drifted down to the gate, where a broom with a long handle was leaning against the wall.
A clear sign that Esmeralda had already cleaned the place.
'I've more six days left with my life. Will I be able to do it?' he thought, placing his palm over his left eye.
*Grrr*
Daniel shrugged it off, changed his clothes, and stepped outside, heading straight to the bakery.
