Chapter 162: The Train
Peter hadn't been entirely sure if the person down below was the one Happy was chasing, but now that the man was sprinting wildly through the street, it was clear he had something to hide.
Killian shoved aside the people blocking his path and ran into the subway station. Peter followed closely behind him.
Seeing the turnstiles blocking his way, Killian didn't hesitate. He raised his glowing red right hand and punched straight through the barrier, then ran toward the train that had just stopped.
"Oh no." Peter chased after him. Since it was rush hour, the subway station was packed with people, which was not good for him. For Killian, however, it was the opposite; the more people there were, the higher his chance of shaking off Spider-Man.
"Stop!" A subway employee rushed over, raising a stick in an attempt to block Killian, who was trying to bypass paying. Killian didn't even bother to use his ability. He pulled out a handgun from his pocket, aimed it directly at the security guard, and fired, Bang!
"Watch out!" Peter instantly shot a web, rescuing the security guard who was about to be hit by the bullet. The security guard lay on the ground, gasping for breath. That feeling of hovering near the edge of death was truly terrible.
"Ah!" "Oh my god!" The gunshot completely startled the crowd in the subway. People started to panic, scrambling towards the exit.
Killian was about to grab a hostage when he suddenly received a message from his subordinate: bio-enhanced fighters expected to arrive at the scene in five minutes.
"Hmph." Killian thought of a good idea. Perhaps eliminating a future enemy wouldn't be a bad thing. Killian tossed the pistol to the ground, knowing that it couldn't harm Spider-Man. He said, "Spider-Man, you really don't need to chase me. You should be more concerned about those people."
"Catching you will solve everything," Peter had figured out that the person in front of him was definitely connected to the mysterious explosions that had been occurring these days.
"That's a shame." Killian turned and slipped into the train, which was about to depart.
Peter naturally wouldn't let Killian escape. He shot a web and swung himself into the moving train.
The moment he jumped inside, a strong spider-sense went off in his mind. Peter quickly jumped aside, Bang! The railing next to a seat was bent by Killian's punch. Killian retracted his fist, looked at Spider-Man, and said, "You jump pretty fast, little bug."
"Cool~ A glowing red hand. It would probably be great for illumination at night," Peter said in disbelief.
Killian shrugged and smiled, "There are still a few people on the train, you wouldn't forget about them, would you, Spider-Man?"
Peter's eyes narrowed. The eye lenses on his suit contracted with his emotion.
"Spider-Man, honestly, I'm not interested in you, but since we're on opposite sides, and since we met today, I might as well get rid of you!" Killian yelled.
Sizzling sound~
Peter's sensitive hearing picked up a faint noise outside the train. He quickly turned his head to look out the window. A monstrous-looking giant insect appeared on the glass.
Smash!
A Mantis Man shattered the glass and jumped in. There were five in total, surrounding Peter.
"Alien invasion?" Peter swallowed hard and asked, "These won't lay eggs in people, will they?"
"You can try," Killian slowly backed away.
Peter, seeing this, wanted to go forward and stop Killian, but the surrounding Mantis Men advanced, opening their mouthparts.
"Oh, right, there are still people in the back carriage," Killian said, pointing behind him.
"To be safe, go wear a mask." Peter shot a web, sealing the mouths of the surrounding Mantis Men.
"Wuwu~" The Mantis Men tried to chew through the webbing with their mandibles, but they couldn't. This was because Peter had shot powerful webbing, which couldn't be torn apart by the Mantis Men using only their mouths.
"Oh, and one more thing, Spider-Man. The train will keep moving forward, and the second station ahead has already been blown up. If the train doesn't stop by then... Boom! Haha!"
Killian melted the train roof and jumped onto it.
"Alright, guys, show's over." Peter quickly switched to the electric webbing mode. Sizzling sound~ The webbing, carrying an electric current, bound the four limbs of the Mantis Men. The powerful current instantly stunned the Mantis Men, electrifying them to the floor. Ignoring the Mantis Men on the ground, Peter punched open the door to the next carriage and found that it was packed with people.
"Hey! Spider-Man!" The people inside greeted him.
"Hi~" Peter's smile was a bit strained. He needed to check the situation in the driver's cab. Peter was currently confused as to why these people hadn't gotten off the train earlier. The people in the previous carriages had all fled, so why were they still here?
"Excuse me." Peter crawled over the heads of the crowd.
He smoothly reached the door to the driver's cab, jumped down from the roof, opened the door, and asked, "Is anyone here?"
"Hi~ Spider-Man," the conductor managed a smile.
"I'm relieved there's a driver," Peter said. "What happened?"
"A maniac broke the brake mechanism. The train can't stop now," the conductor said, sweating profusely. The train was currently moving at such a high speed that ordinary people couldn't get off. Even if they jumped off and survived, they would be in a sealed tunnel. The next train would surely crush them into a meat patty.
"Okay, I can probably guess who did it." Peter immediately thought of the man he was chasing earlier.
"The station platform already sent me a message. The next station has been blown up. If the train keeps going... The conductor didn't need to finish; the result was obvious.
Peter took a deep breath. He couldn't save everyone in the carriage by himself, not even with the Spider Squad. There were only three minutes until the train reached the next station! Three minutes was not enough time to save everyone! Unless his brother, Silas, could.
"It's a pity Silas isn't here." Peter clenched his fists tightly. He had a bold idea.
"Is the public address system still working?" Peter turned and asked the conductor.
The conductor nodded and said, "Of course. What are you going to do?"
"Tell everyone to grab the railings and hold onto their seats. The next part of the journey might be bumpy." Peter opened the nearby window and climbed out, then slowly stood up, looking ahead.
The conductor picked up the communicator and shouted, "Attention all passengers, the next part of the journey will be very bumpy. Please hold onto the railings..."
"Hoo~ Hoo~" Peter's heart was pounding fast. He didn't know if he could pull this off.
Peter jumped to the front of the train, looked at the conductor, nodded to reassure him, and then turned to face forward, his back pressed tightly against the front of the train. He lightly twisted his wrist, switching the electric webbing back to the powerful webbing mode. Staring at the collapsed debris ahead, Peter decided to take a desperate gamble.
To the conductor, the area ahead might look like a dark, uniform space, but Peter saw a wall of debris.
"Come on, Peter! You can do this!" Peter took a deep breath and shot webs toward the surrounding tunnel walls.
Crack!
