Chapter 129: The Spider Squad
The blind man, hearing Peter's call, pulled back the foot he was about to step out with. He turned his head toward the sound and asked, "What is it, sir?"
"I'll help you across. It's not safe for you to cross the road alone," Peter said, taking the blind man's left arm.
"Thank you, but I was just about to cross the street to catch a taxi on the other side," the blind man said, smiling.
"I'll hail one for you." Peter looked up and around, spotted a taxi, and quickly raised his hand to flag it down.
The taxi soon pulled over and the driver rolled down the window. "Hop in, fella."
Peter opened the back door, helped the blind man into the car, and asked curiously, "Where are you heading?"
"Hell's Kitchen," the blind man replied.
"Hell's Kitchen?" Peter frowned. "How did you end up here? And be careful heading to Hell's Kitchen."
"I came here for work. I'm actually a lawyer," the blind man said, pulling out a business card.
"Cool~" Peter waved goodbye to the blind man. Although he knew the man couldn't see, he made sure to complete the gesture.
"The light's green, Peter," Silas reminded Peter.
Peter quickly followed Silas. "That blind man was a lawyer! That's so cool. I wonder how he passed the bar."
"A lawyer?" Silas looked back at the retreating taxi with a puzzled expression, then turned back and asked, "Where was he going?"
"Hell's Kitchen, that chaotic area," Peter replied.
"Hmm..." Silas vaguely guessed who it was. He didn't expect the world to be so small.
"Do you know him?" Peter asked, seeing Silas's expression.
Silas shook his head. "No, I don't."
"You don't?" Peter shrugged. He didn't press Silas further.
At Home
Ben Parker was sitting on the sofa, looking through job listings in the newspaper. His workplace was destroyed in the Battle of New York, forcing him to look for a new job.
"Good afternoon, Peter, Silas," Ben Parker greeted the Parker brothers at the door.
"Uncle Ben, how's the job hunt going?" Peter asked, taking off his shoes.
Ben Parker sighed, shaking his head. "Not that fast, kid."
"No need to rush, Uncle Ben. Don't I still have some money? It's enough to keep the family going for a while," Peter said, coming up behind Ben Parker to massage his shoulders, helping him relax.
Ben Parker patted Peter's hand with a smile. "Thanks, son. But don't worry, I'm a job-hunting expert. I'm sure I'll find something in a few days."
"Do you need help looking for a job? Misty's father is a real estate company owner. I could ask Misty if they have a suitable job for you, Uncle Ben." Silas put down his backpack and sat next to Ben Parker. He had discussed this with Misty before. Misty had confidently guaranteed that her father, hugh, would have a suitable job for Ben Parker.
"No, we shouldn't let others look down on us, Silas." Ben Parker was tempted but shook his head. The relationship between the two families was still a bit delicate. Ben Parker didn't want to trouble Hugh, especially since Hugh seemed a little annoyed with Silas. Misty's mother, Lydia, was much easier to talk to, though.
"Hmm~ Auto salesman. I think this one is good," Ben Parker said.
"Then you continue, Uncle Ben. Peter and I are going upstairs." Silas smiled, massaged Ben Parker's shoulders for a moment, and then took Peter upstairs.
"Mmm, there's chilled juice in the kitchen fridge. You can grab some if you want," Ben Parker said without turning his head.
Right then, a Shadowkhan ninja slowly appeared next to the refrigerator, glanced at Ben Parker, whose back was to him on the sofa, quietly opened the fridge door, retrieved the juice, and tiptoed away.
Silas's Room
The Shadowkhan ninja respectfully handed over the juice and then disappeared into the Shadow Realm.
"That's awesome. When can I try that?" Peter asked, watching enviously.
Silas smiled, and ten Shadowkhan ninjas appeared behind Peter. "These ten are under your command now."
"Seriously?!" Peter had thought Silas was just joking.
"You don't want them? Then I'll take them back," Silas said, about to recall the Shadowkhan.
Peter rushed over to Silas. "No! Please! I finally have my own Spider Squad!"
"Don't worry~ Just messing with you. But be careful when commanding these ninjas. They're a bit fragile, so watch out," Silas instructed with a smile.
Peter quickly went back to his room and returned with ten sets of red tights. "These are my spare suits, exactly ten sets."
"I have a feeling you planned this all along," Silas said, exasperated. How could it be such a perfect coincidence?
Peter gave a knowing smile, stuffed the clothes into the Shadowkhan ninjas' hands, and said, "Hurry up and put these on! I can't wait to take the Spider Squad out to punish evil."
The Shadowkhan ninjas all looked toward Silas. Silas said, "Just listen to Peter. Do whatever he tells you to do."
The Shadowkhan ninjas nodded, then one by one began putting on the clothes Peter had brought.
"I'm so jealous~" Peter knew very well that his brother, Silas, had countless more ninja troops. So many were summoned during the Battle of New York alone, especially that giant one. Its physique was incredibly powerful. If Peter knew how those Shadowkhan Eaters grew, it would be hard to imagine how Peter would view Silas.
In less than a minute, all the Shadowkhan ninjas were dressed in red tights and struck Peter's signature pose.
"Yes, exactly like that! Spider Squad, ready to go!" Peter excitedly led the Shadowkhan ninjas out the window. He had already skillfully put on his Spider-Man suit while the Shadowkhan were changing, ready for departure at any moment.
"Honestly," Silas said, smiling at Peter's retreating back.
Hell's Kitchen
"Spider Squad, attack!" Peter led the ten Shadowkhan ninjas and began clearing out the criminals in the area. Sure enough, after the partnership with Klein ended, the crime rate had soared and was more terrifying than before. The reason was that the criminals, whose anger had been suppressed by Peter, had finally erupted, and their methods were more brutal.
"Don't move! Your friendly neighborhood is here!" Peter shot low-current webs, netting a group of people, knocking them out on the ground. The Spider Squad followed immediately, bundling up the stunned criminals and delivering them to the police station. Efficiency skyrocketed.
"Wait, look out!" Peter suddenly noticed the blind man from the morning seemed to be in danger.
