Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: The Interest

As he walked to the castle with a bunch of men in suits, Yuta could not help but have the illusion that he was some kind of a criminal that was captured by the CIA and being escorted to a maximum security prison.

But this idea was just a fleeting thought he had to relax his taut nerves.

He was actually wondering what Pegasus would want with someone like him.

If he were to think about his original life, his only value would be his connection with Red-Eyes.

He was not rich.

His mother was an archaeologist in Greece, and his father was just a second-rate magician in the United States.

Both of them were passionate people who regularly neglected their kids, but their love was true.

It was not for nothing that there was a saying that parents were true love while kids were accidents.

Of course, that did not mean they were bad parents or treated him and his sister harshly.

They simply valued their careers more than their family.

Anyway, his mother might have been a target of Pegasus' interest, but Yuta quickly gave up the thought, as she did not have much connection with Egypt aside from her teacher.

Thinking of said teacher, Yuta's mood was complicated, as that old grandpa was the exact man who introduced him to the wonders of duelling and taught him how to duel, but that was beside the point.

Essentially, Yuta had no personal connection to Egypt, so it could not be related to that.

As for the rest of his family...

A grandma that was a retired Miko who now ran a magic shop left behind her unreliable son, so she was a no-go either.

A little sister that was only 12 years old...

HOPEFULLY it was not related to her; otherwise, they would have a deadly feud in their hands.

Anyway, it simply can't be related to his family.

So the second intriguing point about him is his identity as a Duellist Kingdom participant.

A duellist who lost his ace card in the past, managed to win it back and then showed remarkable duelling skills after getting it back.

If reporters heard about this, they would eat it up!

It was basically a face-slapping, revenge-seeking protagonist template.

However, Yuta believed it was because of something else.

Because, if it was related to this, Pegasus simply could have waited until evening to have a private conversation with him; after all, he was not running anywhere.

So that brings us to the third intriguing point about Yuta that could make Pegasus impatient.

The fact that he was the holder of the Millennium Ring.

If he did not remember it wrong, the reason Pegasus was targeting Yugi was because of his Millennium Puzzle.

This whole tournament was just a ruse to bring him to this island and then have a Shadow Duel with him to gain ownership of the Millennium Puzzle.

He did not remember the exact process, but it involved his wife dying, him acquiring the Millennium Eye, seeing her spirit for a brief moment, and then coming up with the idea that he could bring her back to life using all the Millennium Items or something along those lines.

Again, this part was fuzzy, but he was quite sure that the reason Pegasus was gathering the Millennium Items was because of his wife.

This was the most plausible reason he could come up with as to why Pegasus would be interested in him.

After all, what if something happens and he does not make it to the tournament?

Pegasus even sent extra enforcers just to make sure that he had enough Star Chips.

So maybe now that he had gathered enough chips, he was anxious that something would happen to him, so he made sure to bring him to the castle ahead of time?

But that does not make sense either, as he sent Kaiba to go after Yugi and tried to eliminate him, though.

If not for Mai throwing the duel against Tea, Yugi would not even have enough chips to advance!

Wait...

Now that Mai 'owed' 8 Star Chips to him instead of Yugi, would she still throw away the duel?

Yuta started to get scared.

He might have messed up big time.

What if Yugi really did not advance?

Then who was supposed to defeat that big cheater Pegasus?

Him?

No way!

He did not have a way to defeat the toon monsters, aside from his effect monsters, spell cards, and traps...

Upon reflection, he realised that he was not as helpless against Toon monsters as he had initially thought.

But what about the Toon Kingdom? ... oh right, he also had a lot of spell destruction like de-spell, feather duster and heavy storm...

But the copying monster... fine! So what if he copies Red-Eyes Black Dragon? He could still beat it black and blue, so it seems Pegasus really was not a threat to him at all.

Granted, Pegasus did not cheat, of course, but Yuta also had his Duel Spirits and Millennium Item, so he did not believe that even with cheating Pegasus would be much of a threat to him.

Damn!

Unknowingly, he was already stronger than the final boss of the first arc!

This was a good thing!

Maybe he should take the opportunity to suggest a duel to Pegasus and beat him up before Yugi gets the chance?

Then again, it would most likely be a Shadow Duel and Yuta did not think there was any reason for him to risk his life.

He would only consider it if Yugi really does not make it to the finals.

Now, let's discuss the second consideration that follows the same line of thought.

If Pegasus really is interested in his Millennium Ring, should he cooperate?

After all, even though Red-Eyes claimed that the fragment of Zorc's soul was sealed inside his Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon, he really did not feel safe.

What if this was another ruse from Zorc?

For example, act like his soul was sealed inside the card, and when Yuta least expected it, snatch his body and his deck!

Isn't this just making a wedding dress for the other party?

But trusting the current Pegasus...

Ugh, that did not feel reliable either.

Speaking of which, aside from Ishizu Ishtar, who is Marik's older sister, there were no other good people among the Millennium Item holders.

Of course, we do not include Yugi in this discussion since he is the protagonist, so he is obviously a good person.

Like even the holder of the Millennium Key, who was apparently a good guy, taught disciples that became the villains of the final Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters movie!

It was still more stable to consult Yugi's Grandpa on the matters related to the Millennium Items.

Alternatively, he could ask the old man for advice...

BAH!

It was better not to involve him in such matters.

What if he became a member of the Millennium Hostages group because Yuta involved him?

So?

What was the plan now?

It was surmised that Pegasus became interested in him due to his Millennium Ring.

It was also decided that, in such circumstances, Yuta would refuse to hand over the ring.

If Pegasus pushes him to have a Shadow Duel for it?

Refuse!

Because, unlike the others, he did not have a grandpa or a brother whose souls were taken.

If Pegasus made an offer that he could not refuse?

Then just beat him up because his deck countered his deck; if necessary, even make targeted adjustments prior to the duel!

Yep, that sounds like a plan.

Furthermore, don't forget to ask about the whereabouts of the other Red-Eyes cards.

"Yuta boy~ I am delighted that we get to meet again!" Pegasus said as he appeared in front of Yuta.
