I stare at the road, with a heaviness I detest feeling sitting proudly in my chest.
This irritating feeling always accompanies certain memories, and of recent, these memories have been surfacing.
Usually, I do not get these many at a stretch, but since I started spending time with Ethan. Memories I have buried started resurfacing. Maybe it's because he makes me feel… after years of teaching myself to kill my emotions.
I drag a deep breath, as I focus on a little boy holding his father's hand and laughing excitedly about something as they walk. His Father is staring at him like the boy is his whole world, and the boy is looking up at his father like his father is the only thing he can see.
The sight twists something dark and ugly inside me, so I drop my gaze to my hands.
"Is this a prank call?" Ethan's small voice questions beside me, and the nervousness in his voice catches my attention.
I turn to him and find him looking at me with fear in his eyes.
