Chapter 20 - Chapter 19: Finding the killer(3/4)

Logan woke up in a crater deep in stone.

He didn't open his eyes right away. He just lay there, feeling the broken pieces of his body. His ribs felt like they were cracked. His left arm was out of its socket. The metal coating on his bones was the only thing that kept his spine from snapping in two when he hit the ground. He tasted blood and dirt in his mouth.

He forced his eyes open. It was dark. The air was freezing. He was buried under a thin layer of snow and loose rock. He pushed with his good arm, shoving a boulder off his chest. He let out a harsh, wet cough.

"Okay," he muttered, his voice grinding like sandpaper. "Okay. I'm alive."

He grabbed his left arm, braced it against his knee, and yanked. The joint popped back into place with a loud crack. He groaned, squeezing his eyes shut as a fresh wave of pain hit him. His healing factor was already working, knitting torn muscles and sealing ruptured blood vessels, but it couldn't stop the phantom pains.

He rolled onto his stomach and pushed himself up onto his hands and knees. He needed to get out of this hole. He needed to figure out where he landed.

Then, he heard it.

"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!"

A whistling sound. Like a massive artillery shell falling from the sky.

Logan looked up. The stars were blocked out. A massive, dark shadow was growing larger by the second, blotting out the night sky. It was falling straight down, right toward him.

The air pressure dropped. The whistle turned into a deafening scream of wind.

Logan didn't think. The instincts took over completely. He threw his body to the right, scrambling on all fours, and launched himself out of the center of the crater.

A split second later, the Hulk hit the ground.

The impact was worse than a bomb. The earth shook wildly as the ground beneath the Hulk caved in. The ground where Logan had just been lying exploded upward. A shockwave of dirt, rocks, and ice blasted outward in a perfect circle.

Logan was caught in the edge of the blast. The force picked him up and threw him backward into a thick cluster of pine trees. He smashed through three trunks before hitting the ground, tumbling through the deep snow until he slammed into a cliff face.

He didn't stay down. He couldn't.

Logan bounced to his feet, ignoring the fresh cuts on his face. He spat a mouthful of blood into the snow.

Snikt!!

Six adamantium claws slid out of his knuckles, gleaming in the faint moonlight.

The dust and snow began to clear from the center of the new, massive crater. A giant hand reached out and grabbed the edge of the broken earth. Then another.

The Hulk pulled himself up.

He was a monstrosity of green muscle and glowing eyes. He didn't look hurt from the fall. He didn't even look out of breath. He looked down at Logan, standing against the rocks, and let out a roar that tore the leaves off the surviving trees.

"You want round two?" Logan yelled, dropping into a low crouch. "Come and get it, you big green bastard!"

The Hulk charged.

He didn't run like a man. He moved like a gorilla, using his massive knuckles to propel himself forward. The ground shuddered with every step. He covered the distance between them in three seconds.

The Hulk swung a fist the size of a boulder directly at Logan's head.

Logan dropped low. He felt the wind from the punch pass over his hair. He stepped inside the Hulk's guard, planting his boots firmly in the dirt. He drove his right fist up, burying three adamantium blades deep into the Hulk's thigh.

The metal cut through the dense green skin and the iron-hard muscle underneath. Hot, radioactive blood sprayed across Logan's face.

The Hulk grunted. He didn't scream. He just stopped his forward momentum, looked down at his leg, and backhanded Logan.

It was a casual swipe, but it hit Logan like a steel beam. Logan flew sideways, crashing through another tree and skidding across the frozen dirt. His vision flashed white. His jaw out of place.

Hulk:" GRAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!"

"Shut up," Logan grunted out loud, letting the Wolverine fully take the wheel. He knew full well that the big green guy was too powerful to fight head on, but he was too angry and too tired to care.

Logan scrambled to his feet just as the Hulk leapt into the air. The giant came down, bringing both fists together in a massive overhead smash.

Logan dove between the Hulk's legs. The giant's fists hit the ground, cracking the bedrock and sending a shockwave that knocked Logan off balance. Before Logan could stand, the Hulk turned with terrifying speed and kicked him.

The giant green foot caught Logan in the ribs. Logan heard some of his organs burst apart. He was launched into the air, flying thirty feet before slamming back into the cliff face. He fell to the ground, gasping for air.

The Hulk was on him instantly. He reached down, grabbed Logan by his shredded yellow suit, and lifted him off the ground.

Logan was dangling in the air, face to face with the monster. The Hulk's breath smelled like burning chemicals and copper. The giant pulled his right fist back, ready to cave Logan's chest in.

Logan didn't panic. He saw his opening.

He swung his legs up, planting his boots hard against the Hulk's chest. Using the leverage, he thrust both hands forward. Six adamantium blades sank directly into the Hulk's shoulders, right near the collarbone.

The Hulk roared in actual pain this time. The sound was deafening. He let go of Logan's suit to grab at the claws stuck in his shoulders.

GRAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!

Roared Logan, he didn't let go. He hung on, ripping his claws sideways, tearing wide gashes through the green muscle. Blood poured down the Hulk's chest, steaming as it hit the cold air.

The Hulk grabbed Logan by the waist with both hands. His grip was like a hydraulic press. Logan felt his spine groan. The giant ripped Logan off his chest and slammed him directly into the ground.

Smash.

Logan's head bounced off a rock. Blood poured into his eyes.

The Hulk lifted him up and slammed him down again.

Smash.

Logan's left arm snapped at the forearm. The bone didn't break, but the joint gave way completely.

The Hulk raised him up for a third slam, but Logan twisted his body. He ignored the blinding pain in his arm and slashed his right claws across the Hulk's face.

The blades cut a deep, jagged line from the Hulk's cheekbone to his jaw. Bright green blood erupted from the wound.

The Hulk roared, dropping Logan to clutch his face.

Hulk:" ROOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!"

Logan hit the ground and rolled. He didn't try to stand. He stayed low, scrambling behind a large boulder to get a second to breathe. His body was a wreck. His ribs felt like they were crushed, his arm was useless, and his head was spinning. The healing factor was pushing hard, making his blood boil, but he was taking damage faster than he could fix it.

"He's too fast," Logan gasped, leaning his forehead against the cold stone. "For something that big, he's too damn fast."

He heard the Hulk tearing the forest apart on the other side of the boulder. Trees were snapping. Rocks were being smashed to dust. The giant was looking for him, and he was angrier than before.

Everything screamed at Logan to back down, every one of his senses was on fire, his nerves burning from pain and his regenerative adaption which continued to boost his resistance to pain every 10 seconds. But if he backed down now, if he gave up now. How could the soul of that poor little girl whose life was snuft out early rest in peace ? How could the people who lived their lives innocently trying to lead happy lives rest knowing their murderer was still going on like nothing happened ?

Hulk can't controll himself, FUCK YOU !!!!

It's not his fault, FUCK YOU !!!!

I WON'T LET THIS END WITH HIM WALKING AWAY LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED !!!!!

The hair on Logans upper body grew longer and darker, his finger claws darkened and veins around his body bulged out like steel. Logans eyes became pitch black and his pupils red with canines growing longer.

With the X-men:

When the team finally reached the outskirts of the ruined town, the Blackbird was sitting right where they left it in the main street. The engines were humming quietly.

The ramp lowered as they approached. Kurt, Evan and Kitty ran down to meet them.

"Did you find him?" Kitty asked, looking past them into the dark woods. "Where is he?"

"We lost the trail," Scott said, walking past her and up the ramp. "Get inside. We're taking off."

Kurt looked at Jean. "Is he... is Logan okay?"

"I don't know, Kurt," Jean said honestly, walking up the ramp. "But we're going to find out."

Once everyone was strapped in, Storm took the pilot's seat. She pushed the throttle forward. The Blackbird lifted off the ground, the jets blasting away the snow from the ruined street.

"Where to, Storm?" Scott asked.

"Take us back to the high pass," Scott said, looking at the radar screen. "We must hurry. I fear a storm is approaching"

The jet banked hard and shot up into the sky, heading directly for the top of the mountain.

They had no idea that Logan wasn't at the cave. They had no idea that the Hulk had punched him entirely over the mountain range. They were flying to the wrong side of the mountains, leaving Logan completely alone.

The boulder Logan was hiding behind suddenly exploded.

The Hulk didn't punch the rock instead he ran straight through it. Hulk roared madly and smashed his fists into the ground in anger, looking around for his opponent.

KRAKABOOM!!!!!

Hulk instinctively looked up at the lightning bolt and there he saw Logan, different from before. The green giants eyes glowed further red, almost like he was preparing himself to take on the challenge. Logan looked down at him and Hulk back at him. Two apex predators challenging one another. And they both roared, they roared as thunder clapped around them and the sky was covered by grey clouds.
