Chapter 9 - 9 - Warning X Threat

Madrex thinks she's asleep or gone.

He's in the lower level of the house, the part she's not supposed to enter.

She follows, not dramatic, not reckless but quiet.

She hears a voice first.. A man begging.

Not screaming... he was bargaining.

Fina stops at the edge of the hallway, the room beyond is dim.

Two guards hold a man on his knees.

Madrex stands in front of him.. calm, not angry.

The man stammers about betrayal, stolen data and wrong orders.

Madrex tilts his head slightly.

"You lied twice," he says evenly.

The man shakes his head.

"I was scared."

Madrex nods slowly.

"I was scared once too."

Fina freezes.

He steps closer to the man.

"And I learned something important."

"Fear is useful, but only when it belongs to someone else."

He gives a small nod, not a shout, not rage... Just a signal.

The guards drag the man away.

The begging gets louder.

Madrex doesn't turn around, he doesn't look disturbed.. He exhales slowly.

And Fina sees it.

Not cruelty, It was satisfaction. Not at the pain, but the control.

Her stomach tightens.

He didn't become brutal because he lost himself.

He became brutal because he chose it.

And he's good at it.

He senses her presence.. he turns and their eyes meet.

No shock, no apology.

"You should not be here," he says calmly.

"You enjoy it," she says quietly.

He studies her.

"Yes." Madrex said without hesitation.

That's what shakes her.

Not denial... truth.

***

Back in her room, she replays it.

He didn't look haunted, he didn't look forced.. He looked… in command.

She whispers to herself:

"He didn't become this by accident."

Something happened.

Something big enough to turn a boy who shielded her into a man who commands fear.

And whatever it was, it didn't just hurt him.

It shaped him.

(She sits up).

If she wants answers, she won't get them from him.

She'll have to dig.

She searches discreetly.

Not public records, not obvious channels.

She traces: shell companies, closed door foundations, Elite financial alliances, orphanages.

A pattern appears... A name that keeps surfacing in coded form:

The Russio Circle

Not public, not acknowledged, not searchable directly.

But it consisted of powerful members:

Political figures, arms dealers, financial giants, private military contractors and one recurring encrypted ID signature tied to multiple operations:

MK-17. (Madrex Kade).

Her heart pounds.

This isn't just a businessman, this is organized shadow power.

She digs deeper, a leaked article from years ago about an incident:

A private estate raid, a massacre covered up, a missing heir.

Her breath catches... The timeline matches when he disappeared from her life.

She leans back slowly.

He didn't just survive something, he was rebuilt inside something.

She realized The Russio Circle doesn't recruit boys, it forges weapons and Madrex is one of their sharpest.

Her phone suddenly vibrates.

Unknown number, one message.

"Curiosity will get you hurt."

Her blood runs cold.

They are watching. Not just Madrex..

She looks toward the door.

And for the first time since living here…

She wonders:

Is Madrex protecting her from the world?

Or protecting her from finding out too much?

Fina stares at the message again.

Curiosity will get you hurt.

No number, no caller ID, encrypted routing.

She knows one thing immediately:

That wasn't him. Madrex doesn't send out warnings, he commands and he doesn't hide behind anonymity.

Her pulse spikes, she shuts her laptop.

Too late.

Somewhere else, a dark room... several screens, security feeds, financial logs, internal traffic.. her name highlighted.

A man seated at the head of a long table taps the screen once.

"Attachment confirmed," he says calmly.

No raised voice, no anger, just calculation.

"She's digging into structural records."

Another voice from the shadows: "Is she aware of the Circle?"

"Not yet."

(A pause).

"What about Kade?" A voice asked from the shadows

"He is… compromised."

Silence settles, that word matters.

"Compromised".. not because he failed but because he cares.

The next morning, Madrex receives a sealed envelope.

No return address, he doesn't need one.

Inside:

A single photograph of Fina.

Taken from outside her bedroom window.

It looked recent.. it was thesame braids she was carrying now...

His jaw tightens barely.

Then a note:

Control your weakness or we will.

The Russio Circle does not repeat itself.

He burns the paper immediately.

But for the first time in years, his control slips.

Not outwardly but internally.

They noticed and they moved.. faster than he expected.

That night, something changes in the house.

Guards repositioned, security doubled, doors locked earlier.

Madrex is quieter, colder but sharper.

She notices a new tension in him.. it wasn't anger but alertness.

She steps into his study without permission.

He looks up instantly.

"Leave."

"Something happened," she says.

He doesn't respond.

She steps closer.

"Someone sent me a message."

That makes his eyes flicker.

"What message?"

She hesitates... "Curiosity will get you hurt."

His voice lowers.

"What exactly did you access?"

It's not concern, It's assessment.

"I saw the name," she says softly. "Russio Circle."

The room goes still, he doesn't blink, doesn't react.

But something behind his eyes hardens.

"You will stop," he says evenly. "That wasn't a request."

"So it's true," she whispers.

His gaze cuts through her.

"There are things you don't survive knowing."

"Are you protecting me?"

"Yes."

The honesty shocks her.

"From who?"

He holds her stare.

"From people who don't hesitate."

"Even with you." Her chest tightens.

They threatened me, they warned you.

"There's a difference?"

"Yes."

His voice drops lower. "A threat means you matter."

"And a warning?"

"Means you're disposable."

She swallows hard..

"And what am I?"

His jaw tightens slightly. "That," he says quietly, "is exactly the problem."
