Chapter 109 - First Intimate Contact with Kakeru Ryuen

The morning classes ended quickly.

The curriculum schedule at this academy was relatively relaxed; even compared to other high schools, it could be considered easy. The school was only responsible for issuing exams, while the arrangement of courses leaned more towards self-study.

In any case, failing exams meant expulsion. Given the excellent conditions provided by the school, the students' self-discipline was generally very good. Even a student like Haruki Yamauchi would study hard because he wanted to continue attending this academy.

Watching the student terminal that had received no reply by the time morning classes ended, Arisu Sakayanagi smiled faintly and said, "Natsuki-kun is truly an unkind person."

"I really don't know why you like paying attention to Class D so much."

Masumi Kamuro came to Sakayanagi's side. Seeing that thoughtful smile on Sakayanagi's face, she spoke with some helplessness, "Are we really going to let Class D continue like this?"

"It's only been half a month, and the class points have already dropped by one hundred and forty. If we continue to leave it alone, our future life will be very unpleasant. And this is only half a month."

Even Kamuro, who usually didn't have much desire for consumption, was somewhat worried about her future life. Currently, having over eight hundred class points was fine, but if this continued, it would soon turn into seven hundred, six hundred, or even five hundred or four hundred.

After enjoying one hundred thousand personal points a month, normal people would not be very willing to accept a downgrade in consumption.

"Little Masumi, your worries are too excessive."

"It is only one hundred and forty class points. I actually thought there might be three hundred class points lost."

Hearing Kamuro's worried words, a trace of a smile surfaced on Sakayanagi's face as she spoke unhurriedly, "One hundred and forty class points... it's barely enough to make Katsuragi-kun scramble."

According to Sakayanagi's expectations, Class D's self-destruct plan should have at least caused Class A to lose over three hundred class points for Kohei Katsuragi's position to become unstable, allowing her to take charge. As a result, Class D actually acted timidly. It was truly a waste of a good opportunity to turn the tables.

"Only one hundred and forty points?"

"The total is only a little over a thousand class points. Is deducting one hundred and forty points not enough?"

Kamuro looked at Sakayanagi's expression of disdain regarding the small amount of points deducted and spoke somewhat speechlessly, "And looking at Class D's appearance, they seem prepared to carry on like this for a long time."

"If time drags on—one month, two months, or even three months, half a year, a year..."

"Hehe, Little Masumi, you are thinking too simply."

"There won't be that much time."

Sakayanagi held her cane, stood up, and laughed, "The school will not allow such a situation to continue indefinitely. The reason they haven't intervened yet is simply because it isn't time yet."

As the daughter of Chairman Sakayanagi, the school's chairman, Arisu Sakayanagi was very clear about some of the school's operational rules and frameworks. Even without specifically asking her father, Sakayanagi roughly knew where the school's tolerance limit lay regarding the plan Class D was executing this time.

If there were no special unexpected circumstances, it would last at most until the next special exam before being halted by the school.

Currently, she simply felt that it was nice Class D could come up with this plan, and since there had never been a class with zero class points in previous years, she wanted to observe a little. It was just a pity that Class D didn't grasp it.

Instead, the original Class B seized the opportunity, directly surpassing her own class to become the new Class A.

"The school won't let it slide?"

Kamuro's eyes brightened slightly. If the school would step in to stop it, that would be good. Kamuro was genuinely worried this situation would continue indefinitely.

Even if she didn't have many consumption desires and could accept having fewer personal points in the future, Kamuro really couldn't stand being provoked to her face from time to time. Even knowing in advance that this was Class D engaging in indiscriminate racketeering, Kamuro still found it somewhat unbearable.

"Probably, they will intervene by the end of this semester."

Seeing Kamuro seemingly heave a sigh of relief, Sakayanagi smiled faintly and said, "If there are no accidents, that should be how it is."

"What if there is an accident?" Kamuro asked curiously.

"If there is an accident..." Sakayanagi thought seriously for a moment and said, "It might have to end in a few days."

"A few days?!"

Kamuro was truly surprised. She originally thought Sakayanagi would say that if there was an accident, it would continue until the end of summer vacation, or even the second semester of the first year. She didn't expect the time to be even shorter.

(PS: In the previous text, due to a lack of understanding of the Japanese system, I wrote it as two semesters. Now it is corrected to three semesters.)

"The school will, at the very most, allow this situation to persist until the end of the first semester."

Sakayanagi looked at Kamuro's surprised expression, understood her meaning, and said with a smile, "So if an accident occurs, it won't cause this matter to continue, but will instead cause it to end prematurely."

"Judging merely by Class D's current situation, it should be quite unlikely for any accidents to occur." Sakayanagi's tone carried a trace of regret.

"Sakayanagi, the accident you're talking about couldn't be..."

Kamuro thought of something not very pleasant. This academy emphasized the supremacy of ability. Normal fighting and brawling, if there was a certain reason, would basically not be managed by the school. But if it reached the level of school intervention... that would definitely not be a small matter.

"That's right."

"It would be the occurrence of a truly vicious incident."

Sakayanagi nodded. The prerequisite for the school to intervene prematurely was only one: the matter truly blowing up.

Merely fighting and brawling was absolutely not enough. At the very least, it would have to be physically damaging—for example, obvious broken bones appearing on the body, or collective brawling between classes.

"Then it seems we'll still be harassed until the end of this semester."

Hearing Sakayanagi's answer, Kamuro felt somewhat weak. With Class D's current timid performance, expecting a vicious incident to occur in Class D was still unlikely. The greater probability was that Class D would continue their petty skirmishes until the end of the semester, and then be explicitly prohibited by the school officials.

"Sakayanagi."

Before Sakayanagi could say anything more, a burly figure with no hair—a bald head—walked over.

"Is something the matter, Katsuragi-kun?"

Sakayanagi looked at the bald head walking up to her and said with a beaming smile, "Little Masumi and I have things to do next. If there is something, it would be better to say it quickly."

"Katsuragi-kun is currently the leader of the class. If there is anywhere I need to cooperate, I will cooperate."

"Nothing much. There is just one thing I want to ask you, Sakayanagi."

Kohei Katsuragi looked at Sakayanagi, his face devoid of superfluous expressions, and said somewhat plainly, "Sakayanagi, you don't seem to have any intention of hiding it. Did you already know what Class D wanted to do before they acted?"

"Hehe, I knew a little bit."

Sakayanagi did not deny it. Her face still wore a smile as she said, "After all, I made a few friends in Class D. They occasionally share some interesting things with me."

"When Class D was planning this incident, I roughly heard a friend 'chat' about it."

"I see."

Katsuragi's gaze was unusually calm, lacking fluctuation. Even knowing that Sakayanagi had understood the situation before Class D acted and hadn't notified the class in advance, it was the same as always. Sakayanagi had never hidden the base color of her personality.

In Katsuragi's view, Sakayanagi was an extremely self-centered, capricious, and very dangerous person. Sakayanagi was incredibly smart, but she did not use this intelligence on truly correct matters. Instead, she used it to satisfy her personal tastes and desire for challenges, absolutely not for the collective benefit.

To Sakayanagi, the class seemed more like a playground providing a stage and chess pieces, not an interest collective that needed to be maintained together and supported through thick and thin. She could calmly watch the class interests suffer just to observe an interesting play or for some private goal.

Just like this time: knowing Class D's potential actions long ago, she chose to do nothing, watching as the class points were forcibly reduced by one hundred and forty.

"The class will absolutely not develop in the direction you imagine, Sakayanagi."

"Well then, Sakayanagi, you can go about your own business."

Katsuragi's voice was steady and powerful. There was no direct reprimand; after speaking, Katsuragi turned and left.

"Oh my~"

"It seems Katsuragi-kun is a little angry."

Looking at Katsuragi's back, Sakayanagi smiled indifferently. But... so what? Sakayanagi did not deny Katsuragi's excellence. Even in society, he would be a very good elite, but he was merely an elite.

To salvage anything in front of her, Arisu Sakayanagi, was far from enough.

After all, Sakayanagi merely knew the intelligence and didn't say it; she did nothing, and Katsuragi already felt a bit scrambled. If she really did something, Katsuragi would only be in a worse state.

Cafeteria, second-floor private room.

Kakeru Ryuen, bringing along Mio Ibuki and Albert Yamada, had only just sat down when Subaru arrived.

"You came faster than I imagined."

"Natsuki."

Looking at Subaru at the door, a trace of surprise flashed through Ryuen's eyes. According to Ryuen's thoughts, he hadn't really expected Subaru to come today.

They were all young people; who didn't want a bit of face? If he could be summoned just by calling, wouldn't that be losing face? Class C was basically full of such personalities, including some people Ryuen had come into contact with before coming to this school.

Ryuen had already prepared to simply bring Ibuki and Albert for a meal in this private room today.

"If someone is treating me to a meal..."

"I think Ryuen-kun is a fairly interesting person, so I don't really mind."

Subaru casually chose a seat and sat down.

"Truly arrogant rhetoric."

"Natsuki, you seem to feel that you are speaking to me from a very high angle from the start."

Watching Subaru, who came alone to the meeting and behaved very naturally and comfortably, Ryuen's eyes narrowed slightly. "However, since I invited you, Natsuki, naturally I will pay the bill today."

"Order whatever you want to eat, Natsuki."

"I originally thought you would bring a few more friends over, Natsuki."

As he spoke, Ryuen also sat in the position directly opposite Subaru. This position was the most suitable for conversation; sitting together would be a bit incorrect.

"I actually don't have any friends."

"The ones who could be called friends are probably Hiyori-san and Kikyo-san."

Subaru picked up the menu casually. While thinking about what to eat in a moment, he replied casually, "Hiyori-san considers her relationship with me to be a private one and doesn't really want to elevate it to the class level, so never mind that."

"As for Kikyo-san... she might have a little interest, but not much."

Kikyo Kushida's attention was focused more on Suzune Horikita. During this period, if one had to say who in Class D was truly putting in the most effort, it was probably Kikyo Kushida.

To properly draw a wave of hatred for Suzune Horikita, Kikyo Kushida could be said to be pushing Class D's racketeering plan very diligently. It was precisely because of Kikyo Kushida's promotion that Class D was able to persist for as long as half a month.

Otherwise, even one week would have been somewhat difficult. Only Kikyo Kushida's popularity and powerful social skills could allow Class D to reluctantly form a united front, twist into a rope, and begin to act.

"Was Class D's plan formulated by you, Natsuki?"

Ryuen propped up his chin slightly, looking at Subaru and speaking faintly, "Class D's actions are truly somewhat disappointing. Half a month's time, and only this little result."

"Could it be that just lowering each class's points by a little over a hundred has already made you complacent?"

Ryuen expressed his dissatisfaction with Class D's actions. Class D's timid movements were truly somewhat baffling.

If Class D had been a bit more decisive, ensuring that every time was at least at the level of Ken Sudo's provocation, Class C could have followed up. They could have directly exploded Classes A and B, making all class points return to zero.

Now, with Class D hanging in this limbo, Ryuen was extremely disappointed.
