Chapter 41 - Suzune Horikita's Progress

A brand new month, the first day. Everyone's mood was just like today's weather: extremely gloomy.

The one hundred thousand personal points per month that were originally promised did not arrive at the agreed-upon time. This cast a shadow over the hearts of everyone in Year 1, Class D.

Just as Natsuki Subaru had mentioned in his chat with Suzune Horikita before.

It wasn't that the people in Year 1, Class D couldn't realize this, but rather that they were now clearly realizing the abnormality of receiving one hundred thousand points a month, which was why they were so uneasy at a time like this.

They all felt that giving every student one hundred thousand points a month was unreliable, hence the worry about potential accidents.

"Just as I thought."

"It's exactly as we investigated."

Watching the students around her discussing uneasily, Suzune Horikita let out a light snort and said, "This academy wouldn't be kind enough to give out so many points for free use."

"The initial one hundred thousand points were just a sweetener."

With Kiyotaka Ayanokōji's assistance, Suzune Horikita hadn't been like a headless fly during the latter half of the last month. She had actually sensed something about this academy.

For example, she noticed that the upperclassmen had been laughing at Year 1, Class D and mocking them as defective products. That much, Suzune Horikita had detected.

Yes, with Kiyotaka Ayanokōji's assistance.

As for how much she actually investigated?

'It seems Horikita-san didn't find out too much.'

Natsuki Subaru shook his head slightly as he watched Suzune Horikita's sneering, bystander-like attitude.

Based on Natsuki Subaru's understanding of Suzune Horikita, if she really knew a lot, she would clearly understand one thing: before she breaks away from Year 1, Class D, she will still be affected by the class's overall evaluation.

In that case, she wouldn't have this expression right now; she would be anxious.

If she gets dragged down by Year 1, Class D like this, her goal won't be realized—although Natsuki Subaru doesn't currently know what exactly Suzune Horikita's goal is.

"So, you knew long ago that this would happen today?"

Ignoring the class's unease, Suzune Horikita refocused her attention on Natsuki Subaru.

Half a month of observation had made her completely certain of one thing.

Natsuki Subaru definitely possessed strength.

And, he was stronger than her—much stronger.

"Everyone can sense that the school wouldn't be so kind as to give points away."

"It's just that most people seem to be harboring a fluke mentality."

Hearing Suzune Horikita's words, Natsuki Subaru smiled and nodded, admitting to her statement.

From the first day of enrollment, Natsuki Subaru had already anticipated that personal points might not be so easy to get.

This fact itself wasn't hard to discover.

The truly difficult part was realizing the shell within the initial sugar-coated bullet, rather than just the sugar coating itself.

'After all, everyone is still a child.'

'It's inevitable to be attracted by the sugar coating for a while.'

Natsuki Subaru felt the behavior of most people in Year 1, Class D was reasonable; after all, they were kids.

It's hard not to suffer a loss when being taught in an adult way so early.

"Since you realized this so early, why is your daily spending still so extravagant?"

Suzune Horikita nodded at Natsuki Subaru's answer and continued to ask.

"..."

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji looked at Suzune Horikita's performance, somewhat speechless.

As the one assisting Suzune Horikita, honestly, in the past half-month, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji's evaluation of her wasn't high. Overall, she wasn't as outstanding as she appeared.

She possessed 'common sense' that he didn't, yet her daily performance was even worse than his.

At least, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji could tell that being so aggressive wasn't the best strategy.

Even Kiyotaka Ayanokōji knew clearly that if one wants to accomplish something, it's hard to succeed alone; even he needed to borrow the strength of others.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji felt that Suzune Horikita had made almost no progress in this half-month.

At most, she realized that he and Natsuki Subaru might possess some strength, that's all.

'But that doesn't matter anymore.'

'Suzune Horikita did teach me a lot of common sense.'

Overall, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji was relatively satisfied.

Low EQ aside, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji still learned a lot of useful things from Suzune Horikita, and also understood why Natsuki Subaru said his close contact with Haruki Yamauchi and others was unusual.

The things Haruki Yamauchi and Kanji Ike discussed were indeed very abnormal for most people.

Even to the point of being very crude.

"Horikita-san, you might have misunderstood something."

"Perhaps I realized early on that points might not be enough, but that doesn't mean I have to be frugal."

Hearing Suzune Horikita's almost interrogating tone, Natsuki Subaru smiled indifferently and explained, "From the beginning, there's no necessary connection between these two things."

Just as Natsuki Subaru had predicted.

His lavish lunches almost every day had already made Natsuki Subaru's performance somewhat conspicuous.

It had even become known to Suzune Horikita, who didn't care much about these things.

Including what comes next—when everyone in Year 1, Class D is short on points, Natsuki Subaru continuing to maintain a high level of consumption is destined to become a focal point.

Natsuki Subaru didn't care about this.

"No necessary connection?"

"You knew there might be a shortage of points, yet you still spent without restraint?"

Suzune Horikita's brows furrowed tighter. This attitude again.

This made Suzune Horikita truly unable to understand. She really couldn't figure out why he would do nothing despite possessing such strength. What was it for?

"Then, at your level of consumption, even if you have some personal points left, it can't be much."

"How do you plan to deal with what comes next?"

She took a deep breath.

Over this half-month, Suzune Horikita had made a tiny bit of progress.

If it were half a month ago, Suzune Horikita would have started mocking him, thinking Natsuki Subaru was hopeless and wasting his talent, and drawn a line immediately.

Now, at least when encountering a problem she didn't understand, she could suppress her emotions and ask further.
