Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 The island's peace is fragile

The sun rose as usual, but this morning, a pirate ship bearing a black flag appeared on the horizon.

A boy with pineapple-shaped hair raised a telescope and asked, "Dad, is that Sphinx Island up ahead? It looks like a really peaceful place."

Gurararara! Before anyone could respond, a booming laugh erupted. A giant man with a crescent-shaped mustache and a captain's cloak stepped out of the captain's quarters.

"That's right. That's my hometown. Prepare the supplies, boys—we're going ashore."At Whitebeard's command, his crew immediately got to work.

As the ship approached the shore, Whitebeard noticed a giant standing on the beach waving at him. A grin tugged at the corner of his mouth as he leaped off the ship, landing firmly before Rick.

After a moment of silence…the two giants burst into laughter at the same time—Gurararara!

"You bastard, you still remember to come home!"

"The bastard has returned victorious!"

After exchanging greetings, they bumped fists, locked forearms, and posed as if doing an air arm-wrestle—their old signature greeting. Thirty years had passed, yet the gesture still felt natural.

"Welcome back, Newgate."

"You punk, Rick, I'm famous all over the world now."

As they chatted, a shadow suddenly leaped from behind Rick. Susanna swung her axe mid-air, striking directly at Whitebeard.

Whitebeard didn't flinch. Laughing loudly, he drew his beloved bisento, Murakumogiri, and the blade clashed against Susanna's axe.

Black sparks crackled between the two weapons. After a brief struggle, Susanna was forced back. She flipped through the air, landed on Rick's shoulder, and released her tension.

Whitebeard sheathed his weapon at the same time and greeted her with a laugh."Gurarara! Susanna, long time no see. You're still as fierce as ever."

Nightfall

Night settled over the island like a thin black veil. Bonfires burned along the shore as the distant songs of pirates echoed across the beach. The Whitebeard Pirates chose to stay the night at the Sphinx Lodge.

Near a smaller bonfire sat only three people.

Rick downed a cup of alcohol in one gulp."Newgate, you've been out at sea for over thirty years. If you're tired of being a pirate, you should come back to Sphinx Island."

Whitebeard stroked his mustache proudly."My journey isn't over. Without my protection, those rowdy brats could never survive the seas."

Susanna asked in confusion, "With your strength, you could lead them to do anything else. Why insist on pirating? If you love your sons, find a good woman and build a real family."

Newgate looked at his "sons" with gentle eyes."My greatest wish is to sail with them, to watch them grow under my protection."

As they reminisced, Mr. Allen approached carrying Leo. He stopped where the firelight met the shadows, deliberately keeping himself hidden in the dark. He set Leo down at the edge of the light before turning to leave.

Leo watched Allen with a bit of suspicion, but once he confirmed the man was unharmed, he eagerly ran toward his parents—his mind full of excitement at finally meeting the younger Whitebeard in person. What otaku could resist meeting a life-sized version of such a legendary character?

Whitebeard looked at Leo in surprise, then burst into laughter."Gurarara! So this is your son?"

Leo's heart almost exploded with excitement. He noticed me! What should I say? His little body stiffened in nervousness—

Whitebeard suddenly extended his right hand toward him.

"Become my… grandson!"

"Huh? You pronounced that wrong, didn't you?"Leo's soul nearly left his body. Tears welled up."Why am I suddenly a whole generation lower than you? I'll give you one chance to rephrase that! Say it wrong again, and I'm not your fan anymore!"

"You drunk fool!" Susanna yelled, pointing at Whitebeard. "Making Leo your grandson would make me and Rick call you what, exactly?!"

Whitebeard only realized his mistake after she shouted at him. Since Leo was so young, he had instinctively thought "grandson" sounded more fitting. Embarrassed, he apologized—even as Susanna smashed a cup on his head, leaving a large bump.

After that, the conversation shifted to Leo. Initially shy, Leo soon warmed up, acting cute and overly affectionate, quickly winning Whitebeard's favor.

The next morning, Whitebeard left Sphinx Island after planting his crew's flag—his true purpose for visiting.

Days passed peacefully. Leo continued studying with Allen every day, occasionally teasing Lina and getting beaten up in return. Life went on quietly.

Until one day, a ship bearing the World Government flag arrived at Sphinx Island.

Three masked men in white protective suits stepped off the ship. Their chilling aura made strangers instinctively back away. Villagers working on the beach dropped everything and fled into the jungle in fear, but the three ignored them, heading straight toward the lighthouse.

Leo was humming as he walked along the path home after his lessons when the three white-clad figures approached. The moment he saw their attire, only one thought flashed through his mind:

Why is CP0 here?!

As they passed him, Leo felt the cold stare of a venomous snake. Only when the three disappeared down the path did he dare move again. He needed to warn his parents—now.Whatever CP0 wanted on Sphinx Island, it couldn't be good. And it seemed their destination was Allen's lighthouse.

Meanwhile, one CP0 agent asked,"Captain, why didn't you let me kill that brat?"

"The mission comes first," the leader replied coldly.

The Arrest

Soon, the CP0 trio reached the lighthouse. Allen, sweeping the classroom, froze the instant he saw their uniforms. Realizing his fate, he made no attempt to escape.

"Dr. Rosen, as a doctor of the Celestial Dragons, your escape has caused us considerable trouble. You will be escorted back to the Holy Land for trial. Do not resist, or you will suffer."

"I'm just a doctor, not their slave. Why won't you let me go?"

"You know the secrets of the Kamiyu Incident. Since we were once colleagues, if you cooperate, we won't use force."

After a brief silence, Allen—Dr. Rosen—whispered, "Very well. I'll go with you."

"Captain, one more thing. To prevent any leaks, I propose we eliminate everyone on this island."

Hearing that, Rosen panicked."Please don't hurt them! I've always used an alias here. No one knows who I really am. I never told them anything!"

The CP0 captain paused, then raised his hand."Move out."

Surrounded by three agents, Rosen walked toward the coast.

Everything seemed to go smoothly—until several fishing boats suddenly encircled the government ship.

Rick stood on the nearest boat, glaring at CP0."Leave them here. No one takes our companion from Sphinx Island."

The CP0 leader pointed to his flag."The World Government is arresting a fugitive. Stand aside."

"The people of Sphinx don't even know what the World Government is."Rick leaped onto the shore, steel trident in hand, ready to fight.

A CP0 agent sneered, vanished with Soru, and appeared beside him, striking Rick's ribs with Shigan.

But Rick wasn't fighting defensively. His arms hardened instantly with Armament Haki, and he countered with a brutal elbow strike, pushing the agent back as he charged toward Allen.

But CP0 pressed harder.Using Rankyaku – Gale Whirlwind, razor-sharp air slashes rained on Rick. His Armament Haki wasn't enough to cover his whole body.He endured as long as he could—but the onslaught soon drew blood.

The fishing crew rushed in to help, but the other two CP0 agents activated Soru and cut through them like wolves among sheep. In a few breaths, the sand was stained red with villagers' blood.

Seeing his comrades fall, Rick's eyes filled with rage.

"You government dogs—you're courting death!"

He disappeared, reappeared behind a CP0 agent, grabbed his head, and slammed him into the ground, shaking the entire shore.

"You're next."

But the CP0 captain stepped forward, removing his cloak."What a beast. Lucky for you…I specialize in taming beasts."

The captain's full power exploded. Every attack—enhanced Shigan – Flaw, Rankyaku – Rainstorm Kaiino—struck with surgical precision. Rick was soon drenched in blood.

"Stop! Don't hurt innocent people!"Rosen roared, but the guards knocked him down with one punch.

Their resistance was hopeless.

Soon, Susanna and the hunting squad arrived.Bodies covered the beach.Only Rick remained standing—barely. He was unconscious on his feet.

The government ship drifted with the tide. The island was fading into the distance.

In the captain's cabin, the CP0 leader sipped coffee.

"Sir, if we leave the islanders alive, there will be trouble. Rosen isn't trustworthy."

"Hmph. No need to fight Whitebeard. We'll just release the island's coordinates and claim Captain John's treasure is buried there. The scum of the sea will gladly do the cleanup for us."
