Chapter 188 - Six Turns Under Red Light

The original transfer receipt came from a dispatcher who wanted his signature removed from a child's disappearance.

He did not meet the trio. He answered Hạo Nhiên's recognized-witness request through the medical logistics office and attached one condition: his name could enter a sealed review, not a school rumor.

The paper established three facts.

The Youth Adaptation Center had no receiving address.

The student had been moved under `JUNE TRANSFER HOLD` before any hearing date.

The transport company had received its route from an event contractor carrying the same employee-code prefix as Hồng Y's signed refusal.

Consent.

Movement.

Two columns now held.

Hạo Nhiên sent Tín the receipt code and the dispatcher's condition. He did not send a photograph of the paper.

Tín called.

"My badge is suspended."

"Your conduct review is unfinished. Your witnessed ledger still reaches recognized reviewers."

"Why not Thuận?"

"The dispatcher allowed sealed review, not school rumor. Lục Hoa can carry the receipt inside Võ Lâm. Toàn Năng must acknowledge that it arrived from outside."

Tín was quiet long enough for Hạo Nhiên to hear a youth class being dismissed behind him.

"Public sports center," Tín said. "Front lobby. We show school identification, and the security clerk stamps the arrival time."

Ordinary procedure was slow.

That was why Hạo Nhiên trusted it for this task. Slow things left more people able to remember them.

Hạo Nhiên arrived as an evening youth class ended. Parents and children exited through the main doors while staff rolled mats toward storage. Tín already waited in the lobby.

`Desk closes in eight minutes.`

Hạo Nhiên entered through the side corridor from the motorbike parking level because the main stairwell had been marked for cleaning.

The roller door lowered behind him.

Not fast enough to trap a careless person.

Exactly fast enough to tell a careful one the corridor had been selected.

Red emergency light washed the concrete walls.

The Hồng Y master waited beside a trolley stacked with folded event cloth.

No charcoal jacket tonight. He wore a dark training shirt beneath an open contractor windbreaker. Red lined both sleeves from wrist to elbow.

"Seven minutes," he said.

Hạo Nhiên did not ask how he knew.

"The dispatcher frightened himself after sending that," the master continued. "Give me the receipt. He corrects the record tomorrow. Nobody loses work."

"The student already lost his hearing."

"The student received protection before procedure caught up."

"A location without an address is not protection."

The master lifted one hand.

"That sentence can reach review without the paper."

"Then you would not be here."

Hạo Nhiên moved toward the lobby door.

The first attack looked like assistance.

The master caught his upper arm as if stopping him from walking into wet paint. The thumb found a nerve line. The other hand reached for the inner jacket.

Hạo Nhiên sank his weight, turned the caught arm inward and stepped to the empty side.

Root.

Listening.

Return.

The grip slid past his ribs without reaching the envelope.

The master's red sleeve snapped across Hạo Nhiên's eyes.

Cloth first.

Fist behind it.

Hạo Nhiên raised a forearm against the hidden strike. Impact traveled into the shoulder. Before he could settle, a low kick struck the outside of his thigh and moved his base half a foot toward the wall.

Hồng Y did not fight for clean technique. It fought for the first interpretation. Cloth made the eye follow red. The real hand entered where attention had just left.

The master came again.

Red across the face.

Palm beneath the sternum.

Hạo Nhiên opened around the force instead of bracing. His left foot turned. His hip followed. The palm slid past his center, and he returned one short shoulder into the attacker's chest.

Not a finishing blow.

Enough to make distance.

The master absorbed it and smiled.

"You could have broken the elbow."

"You wanted the camera to see me try."

A black dome watched the corridor from above the roller door. Its angle captured Hạo Nhiên's back and the master's red sleeves, but not the hand entering first.

The room had been edited before either body moved.

The master kicked the trolley.

Its small wheels rattled across the floor. Folded cloth spilled between them. Hạo Nhiên stepped over the first bundle. The master expected the high step and drove a straight punch into his ribs.

Pain folded one side of his breath.

The next strike targeted the same place.

Hạo Nhiên caught it on the elbow frame, but the injured wrist from their first meeting weakened the circle. The fist broke through enough to split his lip against his own teeth.

Blood reached his tongue.

The envelope remained inside his jacket.

Tín called.

The phone vibrated once against Hạo Nhiên's hip.

The master heard it.

"Five minutes."

Hạo Nhiên stopped trying to gain space.

He changed the question.

The corridor offered six useful relations: forward toward the lobby, back toward the roller door, left wall, right trolley, above camera, below scattered cloth. Lục Hoa did not treat those directions as a memorized dance. Each became meaningful only through the force entering it.

The master advanced to close forward.

Hạo Nhiên yielded it.

He stepped back onto one folded banner, let the heel appear trapped, and watched the red sleeve rise to cover the expected punch.

The master drove in.

Hạo Nhiên did not punch.

He dropped his center, caught the windbreaker's sleeve near the elbow and turned beneath the shoulder. The attacker's momentum traveled past him into the trolley. Metal struck concrete with a hard ringing sound.

The master released the jacket before the joint locked and used the trolley handle to swing back. His heel cut toward Hạo Nhiên's knee.

Hạo Nhiên lifted only enough to let the kick pass, placed the foot down outside the line and returned pressure through both palms.

The master hit the wall beneath the black camera.

For one second, the full red-lined figure faced the lens.

Hạo Nhiên moved toward the lobby.

Three minutes.

The master caught the back of his jacket. Fabric tightened across Hạo Nhiên's throat. He turned with the pull instead of against it, but the master changed level and drove a knee into the bruised ribs.

Air left.

Hạo Nhiên's hand touched the floor.

The envelope shifted inside his jacket.

Red cloth wrapped his wrist.

The master had pulled one event sash from the trolley and looped it once around the joint. A sharp draw would expose the inner pocket. A harder resistance would damage the wrist.

"A guide should know when evidence costs more than the people carrying it," the master said.

Hạo Nhiên looked through the narrow wired-glass panel in the lobby door.

Tín stood on the other side with the security clerk.

Two witnesses.

One locked fire door.

The handoff did not require Hạo Nhiên to remain standing afterward.

He relaxed the trapped wrist.

The sudden absence of resistance pulled the master half a step forward. Hạo Nhiên followed the pull, turned his shoulder under the cloth and struck the crash bar with his back.

The fire door opened ten centimeters.

He tore the envelope from the inner pocket and sent it flat across the tile.

The master stamped down.

Hạo Nhiên's forearm entered beneath the shoe. The sole crushed muscle instead of paper.

The envelope slid through the gap.

Tín caught it.

The security clerk saw the broken seal, the blood on Hạo Nhiên's mouth and the man in red-lined sleeves holding the cloth around his wrist.

He stamped the arrival time before fear could teach him to wait.

The sound was small.

Wood against ink.

Objective completed.

The Hồng Y master did not release the sash.

He looked through the wired glass at Tín.

"The receipt was never the only route."

Hạo Nhiên felt the cloth tighten around his wrist.

"Then name the other one."

"You give those boys a witness inside Võ Lâm. He gives them a witness the public rankings must recognize. Remove either one and Khoa argues with students. Remove both and he deals with an unaffiliated school gang."

The sentence clarified the corridor.

Hồng Y had not arranged only to destroy paper. It wanted the two forms of legitimacy separated before Thuận and the Tân brothers entered the June conflict.

Tín heard through the door.

The security clerk reached toward the desk phone. The screen went dark beneath his hand. Someone had cut the internal line without cutting the corridor camera.

Edited emergency.

Tín placed the stamped envelope inside the clerk's lockbox.

That protected the evidence.

It did not protect Hạo Nhiên.

The clerk caught his sleeve. "If you enter, they will call it unsanctioned combat."

Tín looked at the conduct-review notice still open on his phone.

Permanent removal.

Verified standing revoked.

Younger candidates reviewed.

The clean choice was to remain behind glass and let the evidence route work without his body.

The Hồng Y master pulled Hạo Nhiên's trapped arm toward the floor.

Tín wedged his shoe into the fire door and entered.

"My record already has me," he said.

The master released the sash from Hạo Nhiên and snapped it toward Tín's face.

Tín did not follow the red.

He drove a straight front kick through the center the cloth had tried to hide.

The master turned enough that the heel struck hip instead of stomach. He caught Tín's ankle beneath one arm and swept the supporting leg.

Hạo Nhiên rose into the falling space.

One palm supported Tín's shoulder before his head reached concrete. The other redirected the master's grip past the ankle. Tín landed on one hand, rolled through and returned to stance.

No thanks.

No time.

The master stepped between them.

That was his real technique.

Not cloth. Not hidden fists. Separation.

He attacked Hạo Nhiên with the red sleeve high, then changed direction and drove a low side kick toward Tín's knee. Both defenders turned toward different threats. The gap between them widened.

Hạo Nhiên saw it.

"He wants distance."

Tín checked the kick with his shin. Pain climbed to the hip.

"Then stop giving it to him."

Tín stepped toward Hạo Nhiên instead of chasing the master.

Shoulder near shoulder.

Different structures sharing one line.

The Hồng Y master circled. The corridor camera now saw Tín in a suspended Toàn Năng shirt beside a Lục Hoa witness with blood on his mouth. The image could become conspiracy before either moved again.

"This frame ends both reviews," the master said.

Tín kept his hands visible.

"A review that disappears when I object was never authority."

The master entered behind an open palm.

Tín met it with a straight guard. The impact was heavier than the soft shape promised. A hidden elbow followed toward his jaw.

Hạo Nhiên touched Tín's upper arm and turned him half a step. The elbow missed. The master's force continued into Hạo Nhiên's circle.

Tín understood the opening without instruction.

One controlled body kick.

Heel through the ribs.

The master slid into the trolley and folded enough to absorb the strike without falling.

Hạo Nhiên did not pursue.

Tín did not celebrate.

Together they moved toward the fire door.

The master kicked a bundle of red cloth between their feet. Tín shortened his step. Hạo Nhiên widened his. Their shoulders separated again.

The sash looped around Tín's forearm.

The master pulled him toward the blind side of the camera while driving a palm at Hạo Nhiên's bruised ribs. Hạo Nhiên could defend himself or keep Tín inside the witnessed angle.

He chose the route.

Hạo Nhiên accepted the palm on his forearm, let the impact collapse his stance and used the fall to catch the sash below Tín's wrist. He did not pull against the master. He fed the cloth forward.

The loop loosened.

Tín tore his hand free and struck the concrete beside the master's foot with a low kick.

Not the knee.

The floor.

Dust and cloth jumped. The master's base shifted long enough for Hạo Nhiên to return the palm he had absorbed.

Short.

Centered.

The master hit the roller-door frame with one shoulder.

Tín reached for Hạo Nhiên's good arm and pulled him upright.

"Can you walk?"

"The door is three meters away. Ask me at four."

They moved.

The master recovered before the second meter.

His final rush abandoned the appearance of assistance. No open hand. No soft sleeve. A direct burst aimed between them, fast enough to force one boy left and the other right.

Hạo Nhiên stepped into Tín's line instead.

For one dangerous instant, the two allies occupied the same space.

Then Hạo Nhiên turned.

The master's shoulder passed across his center. Hạo Nhiên returned the force outward. Tín waited until the red-lined body emerged from the turn and placed one straight punch beneath the sternum.

Clean line.

Measured ending.

The master stopped against the wall, breath missing but feet still under him.

He could continue.

So could they.

Beyond the wired glass, the security clerk had opened the exterior emergency circuit. A warning bell began in the public lobby. Staff voices approached from the main court.

The room was gaining witnesses Hồng Y had not selected.

The master lowered his hands.

"You prepared the witness," he said to Hạo Nhiên. Then he looked at Tín. "He supplied the force."

Hạo Nhiên wiped blood from his lip.

"You tried to separate the sentence."

Tín opened the fire door.

"Read it together."

They crossed into the lobby without turning their backs until the door closed.

The master lifted the roller door and left through the parking level. He did not run. Men protected by institutions rarely needed to.

At the front desk, Tín read only enough to confirm the codes before the clerk sealed the lockbox in front of both witnesses.

"Who was he?" Tín asked.

"The hand behind Khoa's frame."

"Did we beat him?"

Hạo Nhiên tested his ribs and stood without releasing Tín's shoulder yet.

"The paper arrived. We left together. Do not reduce that to the wrong score."

The institutional counterattack arrived before midnight.

Lục Hoa ordered Hạo Nhiên to answer a branch review for unauthorized conflict with a recognized contractor.

Toàn Năng moved Tín's conduct hearing to the morning of a national examination and added corridor footage to his file without the minutes before he entered.

Hồng Y had failed to separate them in concrete.

It separated them with calendars.

Khoa received two status notices through the contractor channel.

`LỤC HOA WITNESS: UNDER INTERNAL REVIEW.`

`TOÀN NĂNG WITNESS: RECOGNITION PENDING.`

Below them sat one instruction:

`Continue the student route.`

Khoa opened Thuận's file.

The next afternoon, Hạo Nhiên placed a photocopy under `MOVEMENT` at the old floor.

The third column still waited.

Manufactured response.

He did not use the corridor attack to fill it. The master had tried to provoke him, but Hạo Nhiên was not a student being classified by the Thanh Mạch system. Similar method was not identical proof.

That refusal cost him the comfort of completion.

It also kept the case honest.

He wrapped his wrist, closed the notebook and prepared to teach with one arm that would not turn cleanly for several days.
