Chapter 29 — The One Who Lost the Most!
The sky was roaring.
The sea was raging.
The battle of Yonko level had finally come to an end.
Dressrosa — once known as the "Land of Love and Passion" — had now become a living hell.
The island's center was split apart by a colossal chasm so deep that its bottom could no longer be seen. Boiling seawater poured endlessly into it, releasing a horrifying hissss that echoed across the shattered land.
Not a single building remained standing.
Only four figures stood amidst the ruin — divided into two sides, facing one another in tense silence, their auras intertwining like blades.
At the eye of that storm of destruction, the world had fallen eerily quiet.
On one side stood Akira — a thirty-meter-tall demon god.
His black, sacred Lunarian wings spread wide across the sky, casting half the island in shadow.
The curved Oni horns upon his head exuded a mix of savagery and divine might.
Beside him stood Kaido — in his half-human, half-dragon hybrid form towering over twenty meters tall.
His chest, covered in blue-green dragon scales, heaved heavily.
For the first time in his life—
he was bleeding.
Across his torso ran deep, vicious cuts — the marks of Shanks' Divine Departure. The wounds were so severe that his bones were faintly visible beneath them, and thick, crimson dragon blood dripped relentlessly to the ground.
On the other side—
Red-Haired Shanks stood tall, gripping his sword Griffon in his only remaining hand.
His breathing was slightly uneven, his palm numb from the aftershock of his own power.
Half a step behind him stood Benn Beckman, smoke still rising from the barrel of his flintlock pistol.
The calm expression that usually defined him was gone. His jaw was tight, his face pale.
He had unleashed his full strength against Akira—
and yet the thirty-meter-tall monster hadn't even been scratched.
The combined presence of the four—
felt like four mountains crushing down upon the island itself.
The ground trembled beneath their pressure.
Then—
"Enough."
Shanks' voice broke the silence.
It was hoarse, but steady.
"Kaido."
He glanced down at the island beneath his feet—
the island that was now slowly sinking beneath the rising tides.
"If we continue this, Dressrosa will be completely erased."
"That benefits no one here."
"Worororororo…"
Kaido's low laugh rumbled like thunder, wild and defiant.
"'Benefit,' you say?"
His massive, draconic eyes shifted to the side—
locking onto the towering figure beside him.
"The benefit… is right here!"
The battle spirit within Kaido hadn't faded.
Not yet.
This son-in-law of his—this genius, this monster—
was everything he had ever hoped for in a successor.
A man who could suppress Benn Beckman—one of the most dangerous men alive—
in a direct confrontation!
A man whose strange, evolving power allowed him to grow stronger the longer he fought!
The longer the battle lasted, the greater his body became.
This… this was the true essence of a Beasts Pirate!
But—
Kaido's gaze fell downward.
To the gash in his chest.
A deep, burning pain surged through his body.
The slash from Shanks still lingered—his sword's Haki-infused aura gnawing into his flesh like a curse that refused to fade.
"Damn you… Red-Haired…"
Kaido's face darkened, his fanged mouth twisting into a grimace.
His legendary defense—the strongest in the world—
had been pierced.
And the one who did it wasn't Whitebeard… wasn't Big Mom…
But Shanks.
The realization infuriated him.
Yet what stung even deeper—
was the bitter truth that followed.
He turned his head slightly, his fiery eyes landing on Akira—the towering, horned colossus beside him.
That same Akira who had faced Benn Beckman—
whose bullets were infused with Conqueror's Haki strong enough to pulverize mountains—
Yet even those hadn't left a single mark on him.
Not one.
Kaido fell silent.
And without meaning to, a thought he refused to accept began to slither into his mind.
"Damn it…"
"I'm bleeding because of Shanks…"
"But that brat…"
"He took Beckman's full barrage and didn't even flinch."
"Don't tell me…"
"My defense… is weaker than a human's now?!"
That thought—
bit into his sanity like a venomous serpent.
While the two sides stood locked in an uneasy standoff,
Kaido's mind was thrown into chaotic turmoil.
Then—
Swish! Swish! Swish!
The sound of slicing wind cut through the silence.
"Captain!!"
"We're late!!"
From the distance, ships loomed over the coastline—
the Red Hair Pirates had finally arrived.
Anchored at the shattered shores of Dressrosa, the rest of Shanks' crew rushed onto the battlefield.
Lucky Roux, usually seen laughing with a chunk of meat in his mouth, now wore a grim expression, his musket already aimed and ready.
Yasopp, the long-haired sharpshooter, landed on the highest vantage point in a single leap.
His keen eyes locked immediately onto the monstrous figure standing at the center of the chaos—
the thirty-meter-tall devil towering even higher than Kaido himself.
Akira.
That mysterious presence—the towering horned demon—
radiated a sense of danger even greater than the "Yonko" Kaido himself.
In the blink of an eye—
The entire core crew of the Red-Haired Pirates had arrived on the battlefield.
They spread out swiftly, forming a perfect encirclement—
surrounding Akira and Kaido…
And in the distance, at the bottom of a massive crater,
two unconscious figures—Yamato and Donquixote Doflamingo—
lay trapped right in the center of the crossfire.
The atmosphere froze to absolute stillness.
"Worororororo…"
Kaido's dragon-like eyes swept across the battlefield.
The anger burning in his face slowly subsided—
replaced instead by an even more terrifying madness.
"Red-Haired!!"
he roared, his voice shaking the ruined island.
"Do you really want to start a war with me here and now?!"
"Kaido."
Shanks exhaled deeply.
He knew—this was his final chance.
Slowly, he sheathed Griffon at his side.
"Kaido, I'll say this only once more."
"Do me a favor—"
"Let's end this fight here."
Kaido's lips curled into a mocking grin—
but before he could speak, Shanks' eyes turned sharp as blades.
"This island isn't just Dressrosa."
"This place—"
His voice rose, filled with authority and urgency.
"—is also the central hub connecting Big Mom's and Whitebeard's trade routes in the New World!!"
"If you destroy this island—"
"if you keep fighting—!"
"—you'll be forcing three major pirate factions to unite against the two of you!!"
"..."
"..."
"Three against two?"
Kaido's massive hybrid body froze.
His half-drunk, battle-frenzied mind—
snapped into focus.
Shanks.
Big Mom.
Whitebeard.
Three names.
Three monsters.
He didn't fear any of them individually.
But if the three joined forces…?
Kaido fell silent.
It wasn't fear that crept into his heart—
but a cold, rational understanding of what that alliance would unleash.
A war.
A war large enough to shake the entire world.
If that happened—
the Marines would inevitably get involved.
And if the Marines moved—
Then that thing… would awaken.
"Imu…"
A terrifying shadow flickered in Kaido's mind—
the same entity he had glimpsed once, long ago, at God Valley.
"No…"
Kaido clenched his fists tight.
"Now's not the time to reveal ourselves to the ones above."
"We wait—until the artificial Devil Fruits are complete…"
"…and every member of the Beasts Pirates has consumed one!"
"Worororororo!!"
Realization struck him—and Kaido burst out laughing again, his booming voice echoing across the ruined island.
"Three forces joining hands—so what?!"
"I fear no one!!"
"Hmph!"
"If not for those cowards hiding behind the Marines…"
"Then today—I would've finished this fight with you!!!"
Kaido bellowed furiously, his rage shaking the heavens.
Then, at last, his massive draconic body began to shrink.
His hybrid form faded away,
returning to his towering seven-meter-tall human form.
He reached down and grabbed his massive spiked club, Hassaikai, from the ground, resting it across his shoulder.
"Consider yourself lucky today!"
"I'm done fighting!"
He turned, ready to take off into the sky.
He had made his compromise.
But—
Just as Kaido prepared to soar away—
BOOOOOOM——!!!
A massive shadow suddenly loomed over him.
Something even larger, even more terrifying than himself—
blocked his path.
It was Akira.
At some point, the thirty-meter demon had stepped in front of Kaido,
his gigantic frame towering like a mountain.
The colossal Murakumogiri in his hand glimmered menacingly,
its edge as wide as a fortress gate—
and it was pointed straight at Kaido's throat.
"?!"
Kaido froze.
He lifted his head,
his expression twisting with disbelief and confusion.
That damned "son-in-law" was now towering over him,
three times his height.
"You… you bastard, what the hell are you doing?!"
"Father-in-law."
Akira's voice was cold, emotionless—like steel scraping stone.
"If you wish to leave, go ahead."
"But the club, Hassaikai…"
He lowered Murakumogiri slightly,
and the air itself seemed to grow heavier under its pressure.
"Leave it."
"..."
"..."
"Hah?!"
Kaido blinked, thinking he had misheard.
His draconic eyes bulged wide.
"That's my weapon!!"
"Yes," Akira replied evenly,
"but Yamato seems to handle it quite well."
Then, almost casually, he muttered—
"Besides… I did pay a hundred million Berries for it.
No way I'm just letting you take it back for free."
His tone was calm.
"If you don't agree…"
"Then let's continue the fight."
Black Divine Flames erupted across Akira's gigantic body once more.
The ground cracked beneath his feet as killing intent boiled around him.
"You…"
Kaido was speechless—too furious to even shout.
But before he could unleash his rage—
Akira slowly turned his head.
His blazing eyes shifted to the side—
toward Red-Haired Shanks,
who stood still, visibly stunned by what he was witnessing.
"Shanks," Akira said flatly.
"In that case…"
"How about we team up—
just for now—
and finish him off together?"
"I'm sure you wouldn't mind… right?"
A faint, cold smile curved on Akira's lips.
"...?!"
Shanks froze completely.
His heartbeat, which had only just begun to steady,
spiked all over again.
What the hell was happening?!
Just moments ago—
father-in-law and son-in-law were fighting him together!
Now the "son-in-law" wanted to ally with him—
to take down the "father-in-law?!"
What kind of twisted play was this?!
Even for a man like Shanks,
this was too much.
His worldview had been shattered,
trampled, and burned beyond recognition by this insane pair.
But—he was still a Yonko.
And when he met Akira's burning, unfeigned killing intent—
he immediately recognized an opportunity.
"Oh?"
A slow grin returned to Shanks' face.
He rested his hand back on Griffon's hilt.
"Of course, I don't mind."
Following Akira's lead, Shanks stepped forward—
each stride measured, deliberate,
his single arm radiating a pressure even heavier than Kaido's.
"Kaido…"
Shanks smirked, his sharp teeth gleaming.
"A fallen Emperor of the Sea…"
"That's something I'd love to witness."
"..."
"..."
Kaido stood frozen in disbelief.
He was surrounded.
On his left—Shanks, Beckman, and the entire Red-Haired crew,
their weapons raised, eyes locked on him.
On his right—
the thirty-meter-tall demonic son-in-law,
his blade gleaming with divine black fire.
Kaido's body trembled, not from fear—
but from sheer, boiling rage.
His draconic face flushed crimson, veins bulging across his temples.
He knew.
He had no choice.
If Akira truly turned against him—
he might actually die here.
"Fine! Fine!! FINE!!!"
Kaido glared up at Akira for three long seconds,
his bloodshot eyes blazing.
"Damn it!!"
"I yield!!"
With a furious shout, he lifted Hassaikai high—
and slammed it down into the ground!
CRAAAAAANG——!!!
The weapon of the so-called Strongest Creature in the World
struck the earth, leaving behind a massive crater.
"Hmph!!"
Kaido turned his back sharply, trying to salvage his pride.
"This broken club!!" he snarled.
"It was a gift to my daughter anyway!!"
He gritted his teeth, forcing himself to sound proud.
Finally, he threw one last glance toward Akira.
"Akira!!"
"Take care of Yamato!!"
"And of my Hassaikai!!"
"Next time—"
"I'll come take it back myself!!"
Without another word—
ROOOOOAAARRR!!!
Kaido's body surged with flame and lightning as he transformed back into his massive blue dragon form,
shooting up into the clouds at terrifying speed.
But no matter how fast he flew—
there was no hiding the trembling in his flight path,
the panic,
and the humiliation.
That day—
Kaido, Emperor of the Sea, ruler of the New World…
had become the one who lost the most.
