Cherreads

Chapter 5 - "First Strike"

The morning air smelled faintly of smoke, dust, and something metallic — the remnants of the rooftop explosion from last night. Siheon rubbed the back of his neck, still glittering with faint traces of fused Heaven/Hell energy.

Seraphina's silver blade gleamed in the early sun. She looked down at him, one eyebrow raised in her signature "you're hopeless, and I'm regretting this" expression.

"Sit still," she ordered.

Siheon tilted his head.

"…I was sitting still. Well… lying still."

Hell snickered from the corner of his consciousness. [Darling, your excuses are adorable.]

Heaven beeped indignantly. *[Stop listening! Focus!]

Siheon groaned. "I can't win here."

---

A commotion in the city park drew their attention. Civilians screamed and scattered as a glowing shockwave tore through the trees.

"Stay back!" Seraphina hissed, planting herself between the chaos and Siheon.

Siheon squinted. Something… or someone… was moving with terrifying speed.

A human — no, not just any human. One whose very aura screamed Primal Lineage, stepped casually into the debris-strewn park.

Silver hair shimmered in the sunlight. Eyes glowed faintly red. A single sword hovered near their hand, spinning lazily without them touching it. Trees splintered where the weapon swept past.

Siheon's jaw dropped.

"…Is that a human?!"

Seraphina's face went pale.

"Yes. And it's one of the few even Heaven fears."

Hell purred gleefully. [Ohhh, finally, a proper playmate!]

Heaven groaned. *[Focus, human anomaly, or you'll die before breakfast.]

Siheon swallowed.

"…Great. So I'm about to meet someone stronger than me. I love mornings."

---

The human walked toward them, unhurried, almost bored. Their boots crunched against broken asphalt, leaving scorch marks.

"So… you're the anomaly?" the human said calmly. Their voice carried authority, but not arrogance — more like the universe itself had leaned toward them and whispered, "Yes, you may exist."

Siheon blinked. "…Uh… I guess?"

Seraphina bristled.

"Do not speak to it."

Heaven chimed: [Good advice. Humans don't negotiate with Primal Lineage beings.]

Hell snickered: [And they make the best chaos!]

The human flicked a finger, casually tossing the sword like a tennis ball. It sliced through the air with a whistling hum. The trees shuddered, and a minor angel hiding behind a lamppost shrieked and dove out of sight.

Siheon stumbled backward, hands raised.

"Uh… hello? Can we… not do that?"

Seraphina growled softly.

"Siheon, stay behind me!"

Siheon's heart thumped. "Stay behind her? Got it. Wait… she's moving too. Uh… where do I go?"

Hell laughed. [Yes! Panicked humans are my favorite!]

Heaven beeped furiously. *[Stop listening! Focus!]

---

Without warning, the Primal human attacked. Not fast — faster than thought. Siheon barely registered movement before a shockwave of power shattered the ground near his feet. Dust, bark, and shattered pavement shot into the air.

Instinctively, his hands flared with fused gold-and-crimson energy. The blast met the Primal human's attack head-on, creating a deafening explosion.

Siheon tumbled backward, coughing through dust. "Uh… that was… fun?"

The Primal human raised an eyebrow, spinning their sword casually. "You're not bad… for a human anomaly."

Siheon blinked. "…Thanks? I think?"

Seraphina groaned.

"Do you ever say anything useful?"

Siheon waved weakly. "Hi?"

Hell purred. [Oh, this is precious!]

Heaven beeped. *[Discipline your mouth, human!]

The Primal human moved again, slicing through air and debris with deadly precision. Siheon dodged and countered instinctively, fusing his powers mid-motion. Sparks of gold and crimson arced across the park.

Buildings shook. Fountains exploded. Benches splintered.

Siheon yelled mid-dodge:

"Hey! Could you not destroy the playground equipment? Some kids play here!"

The Primal human ignored him completely.

Seraphina shouted:

"Siheon! Focus! Don't talk!"

Siheon ducked under a low swing, energy flashing dangerously close to him. "…I'm trying! It's hard to talk less when Hell keeps whispering funny stuff!"

Hell laughed. [Darling, you're hilarious. Keep it up.]

Heaven beeped: *[Stop. NOW.]

---

Siheon's panic caused him to slip mid-counter, accidentally sending a small burst of fused energy flying into a nearby tree. It exploded, raining wood shards and sparks.

"Oh no…" Siheon whispered.

Seraphina winced. "Do you have any control?"

"I thought I did!" Siheon protested, tripping again and almost colliding with her.

The Primal human tilted their head. "Interesting… your energy reacts differently depending on your emotional state."

Siheon froze. "…Wait, so my panic is a weapon?"

Seraphina pinched the bridge of her nose. "Please stop thinking."

Hell hissed softly: *[Oh, he's so chaotic. I love this human.]

Heaven beeped sharply: *[Do not encourage him!]

---

The Primal human moved with terrifying grace, striking multiple times. Siheon instinctively mirrored their movements. For the first time, he realized he could sense their intent, reading the tiniest shifts in aura and muscle.

He spun, energy flaring, and countered a sword swipe. Trees splintered. Pavement cracked. Sparks danced in the air.

Seraphina shouted:

"Careful! You're destroying the city!"

Siheon blushed. "…Oops. My bad?"

Hell cackled. [You're a walking disaster, darling. I love it!]

Heaven beeped in horror. [You're destabilizing everything!]

---

The Primal human stopped mid-swing, tilting their head. "You… are different from what I expected. Perhaps you are the anomaly they warned us about."

Siheon froze. "…Me?"

Seraphina stepped forward, weapon raised. "You do realize he's trying to not get killed, right?"

The human's gaze lingered on Siheon, appraising. "…Interesting. Survive this… and you might change the balance of Heaven and Hell."

Siheon's heart skipped. "…Wait, me? Change Heaven and Hell? I'm not even done with breakfast!"

Hell purred with delight. [Oh, yes. Perfect chaos.]

Heaven beeped frantically. *[Stop encouraging him!]

---

Suddenly, a massive tremor ran through the city. The ground cracked beneath them.

The Primal human's eyes widened, just slightly. "Someone else… is coming."

Siheon glanced at Seraphina. "…Someone else? Great. Is it breakfast-friendly?"

Seraphina growled under her breath.

"No. It's not. Get ready."

A figure appeared on the horizon — enormous, glowing with chaotic energy, moving faster than light, heading straight for them.

Siheon gulped.

"…This day just got worse."
