Shock was immediately etched on her face.
She was certain she heard him right, but the weight of the words made her question her own sanity.
"I have to die?" Emilya asked again, just to be sure.
"That is correct. The true opportunity you seek can only be brought to fruition through death."
To this, Kai stood to his feet, looking down at her while she could only look up at him from her knees.
"You cannot live amongst my people as a human. My orders might protect you for a day or two, but you, a human, can only live comfortably in hostility for so long. Be that as it may, all is not lost. I am powerful. Should you die right here and now, I can resurrect you, and bring you back as a monster of my choosing."
His words settled in her ears, and a slight hint of realization played on her face as well.
In order to live in the dungeon, by his side, not only did she need to end her own life, but she also must abandon her humanity entirely.
