Maverick didn't hesitate.

In a normal game, you fight the boss. You dodge the mechanics. You whittle down the HP bar.

But this wasn't a normal game. This was the Holy Grail War. The objective wasn't "Kill the Servant." It was "Win."

And the fastest way to win was to cut the head off the snake.

While Asterios (the Minotaur) was distracted fighting Saber and Achilles, his Master, Lee, was vulnerable.

Lee was fast—he had Time Alter (Double Accel) active. But he wasn't fast enough to dodge a teleporting King of Knights.

Maverick raised his hand. The Command Spell burned on his skin.

"Artoria! It's up to you!"

The command was absolute. Space bent. Saber, who was clashing swords with the Minotaur fifty feet away, vanished.

She reappeared instantly in front of Maverick, her sword already swinging.

Lee's eyes widened. He tried to raise his submachine gun. He tried to activate his own Command Spell.

Too slow.

SHING.

Saber's invisible blade cut through the air.

Lee's head separated from his shoulders. His body stood there for a second, confused, before collapsing into a pile of digital polygons.

"Gottem," Maverick panted, collapsing to his knees as the adrenaline crashed.

[Chat]:[PogChamp]: MAVERICK MVP!

[Tactician]: That was dirty. I love it. Why fight the raid boss when you can just assassinate the summoner?

[Salt_Mine]: My spicy strips! I bet on Berserker! Maverick, you owe me!

[Lore_Master]: And then there were two. Well, three if you count the hiding Assassin. But let's be real, this is the final showdown.

[Simp_Nation]: Wait, Achilles is hurt. His heel is bleeding. Saber has full mana (thanks to the Command Spell recharge). Maverick might actually win this!

With his Master dead, the magical link snapped.

Asterios roared. It wasn't a battle cry anymore. It was a sound of pure, unadulterated heartbreak.

"MASTER!" the Minotaur bellowed, dropping his massive axes.

He turned, ignoring Achilles and Saber, and ran toward the spot where Lee had died.

He fell to his knees, his giant hands scooping up the fading digital dust.

"Master..." Asterios whimpered. "No... leave... alone..."

Achilles lowered his spear. He looked at the grieving monster.

"A warrior's death," Achilles murmured.

But Asterios wasn't done. He looked up, his eyes burning red with madness and grief.

"YOU!" he roared at them. "ALL OF YOU! DIE!"

He grabbed his axes and charged. He didn't care about defense. He didn't care about survival. He just wanted to take them with him.

"He's going berserk!" Maverick yelled. "Saber!"

"I am ready," Saber said, raising her sword.

But Achilles stepped forward.

"No," the Rider said. "Let me handle this. He deserves a hero's sendoff."

Achilles didn't use his spear. He dropped it. He didn't use his shield.

He just ran.

Even with a wounded heel, he was the fastest hero in the world. He blurred, side-stepping the Minotaur's clumsy, grief-fueled swing.

Achilles leaped, spinning in the air. He drove his fist into the Minotaur's chest.

CRACK.

The impact shattered the monster's spiritual core.

Asterios stumbled back. He looked down at his chest, then up at Achilles. The rage faded from his eyes, leaving only a deep, profound sadness.

"Master..." Asterios whispered one last time.

He fell backward, crashing into the ruins of the temple. His massive body began to dissolve into golden light.

[Chat]:[Crying_Cat]: Why is this game so sad?!

[Feels_Bad_Man]: He just wanted a friend. He was a monster, but he loved his Master.

[Respect]: RIP Asterios. You were a real one.

[Foot_Fetish_69]: I feel bad for him too... but look at those feet. Those giant, dusty feet... they look kinda delicious.

[Question_Mark]: ???

"What is wrong with people?" Maverick muttered, reading the chat. "Focus on the tragedy, you deviants!"

With Berserker gone, the battlefield fell silent.

Only two teams remained standing in the ruins of Ryuudou Temple.

Maverick and Saber. The Gamer Girl and Achilles.

They stood facing each other across the crater created by Saber's Excalibur. The moon hung high in the sky, illuminating the devastation.

Achilles was bleeding. His heel was a mess. He was leaning heavily on his spear.

Saber was tired, but uninjured. Her armor shone pristine.

"So," Achilles said, wiping blood from his lip. "Here we are. The finals."

He looked at his Master, the Gamer Girl. She looked terrified.

"Rider..." she whispered. "You're hurt. We can't win. Saber is at full power."

Achilles laughed. It was a bright, defiant sound.

"Win? Lose? Who cares?" Achilles grinned. "We fought giants. We broke an inescapable maze. We saved the city. That's a victory in my book."

He turned to Saber.

"Hey, King of Knights. Do me a favor?"

Saber nodded solemnly. "Name it, Hero of the Trojan War."

"Don't hold back," Achilles said, spinning his spear. "Give me a fight worthy of my legend. Even on one leg... I'm still fast."

Saber smiled. She raised her invisible sword.

"I would expect nothing less."

Maverick looked at the Gamer Girl. She was gripping her Command Spells tightly.

"Hey," Maverick called out across the crater. "Good game."

The Gamer Girl sniffled, then wiped her eyes and put on a brave face.

"Good game, old man," she shouted back. "But don't think we're going down easy! Rider! Let's show them speed!"

"YEAH!" Achilles roared.

The wind picked up. The final duel began.
