Chapter 126: New Elective Course and Katyusha Rocket Launcher

"How did they spot me?" Kenichi was genuinely surprised.

Thankfully, Shisui did not actually notice him. He only swept his gaze in Kenichi's direction for a moment, and that tiny difference made Kenichi's shoulders loosen.

Still, meeting Shisui's eyes made Kenichi curious.

Had Shisui already awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan?

If he had, then it should be Kotoamatsukami, the genjutsu once praised as the strongest. Some people even claimed Kotoamatsukami was stronger than the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

Kenichi felt that was an oversimplification. Infinite Tsukuyomi and Kotoamatsukami each had their own strengths.

Infinite Tsukuyomi trapped people inside the world they desired, letting them drown in a perfect dream.

But it also had a fatal drawback. In the end, they would be used as nourishment by the Divine Tree and turned into White Zetsu. In a sense, it was trading short term bliss for the destruction of an entire world.

Kotoamatsukami was far more convenient. It could quietly twist a person's thoughts from within, altering their decisions subconsciously. The effect was simply terrifying.

Even so, Kenichi could not help thinking Shisui's use of Kotoamatsukami was a problem.

If Shisui had used it directly on the Third Hokage, and then on Danzo, the Uchiha clan would not have been wiped out.

So while Kenichi acknowledged Shisui's strength, he also felt Shisui was too hesitant, not ruthless enough. That was exactly why he ended up being outplayed by that old bastard, Danzo.

If Kenichi had transmigrated into Shisui's body, the Uchiha would have marched into a completely different future. Black Zetsu would have been pushed off the board. They might even have tried Kotoamatsukami on Black Zetsu.

Of course, all of that was hindsight, built on knowing the plot. Without that knowledge, you would be stumbling through darkness with your hands out, and the wrong step could kill you.

After the trio left, Kenichi slipped through the area quickly and crossed into the Land of Rain without delay.

There, he met Sasori.

Half a year had passed since their last meeting. Sasori looked the same as ever, but Kenichi immediately noticed something off about his arm.

"Sasori, what happened to your hand?" Kenichi asked, curiosity rising.

Sasori gave a smug little smile. Then he pointed at his arm.

The skin on his left forearm split apart, revealing an electronic display screen inside.

Words and simple symbols flickered across it.

Kenichi blinked hard. Good heavens. What did Sasori even do to himself in the past half year?

"I turned my left forearm into a mechanical one," Sasori said casually, "and paired it with the Evangelion I developed."

He pressed a button.

A robot flew in from the distance and dropped down beside him, landing with a heavy thud.

Kenichi stared at the scene, momentarily blank.

"We do not see each other for half a year, and your breakthrough is already this outrageous?"

It was also painfully obvious that Sasori cared about flying. He cared a lot. If he did not, he would not have built a flying Evangelion.

Honestly, Kenichi suspected Sasori had spent the entire time doing nothing but improving Unit 01's flight capability.

"You could even try developing drones," Kenichi blurted out. "Wouldn't it be cooler to press a button and have an entire swarm appear?"

Sasori looked at him in confusion.

"Drones?"

Kenichi immediately regretted opening his mouth.

He genuinely liked Sasori. They were good friends now. Sasori always looked aloof, but once he acknowledged someone, he became surprisingly enthusiastic.

The real issue was Sasori's curiosity.

Unlike Orochimaru, Sasori's knowledge was mostly focused on puppets. So whenever Kenichi mentioned something new, Sasori would latch onto it and ask questions until it made sense.

And explaining everything from scratch every time was a pain.

"A drone is an unmanned flying device," Kenichi said, forcing himself to explain. "It can be controlled remotely, and it can carry different tools depending on what you want it to do."

He kept it simple, then watched Sasori's eyes brighten.

Kenichi was also looking forward to what Sasori might do next.

After all, one conversation had produced Unit 01.

Now Unit 01 could fly.

Even if Kenichi did not know how far it could fly, it was still a huge leap.

If Sasori really took the drone idea seriously, could he build an entire drone battle group?

"Kenichi, I gain a lot every time I talk to you," Sasori said, clearly delighted.

He had been thinking about making more puppets like Unit 01. But now he realized drones could achieve the same kind of pressure.

And if he followed Kenichi's suggestion, the cost would be lower than building full puppets. Even if losses were heavy, replacements could be produced in time. That was incredibly convenient.

He just needed to think carefully about how they would attack.

He could not simply throw explosive tags forever. He would go bankrupt in no time.

"Let's go," Kenichi said with a shrug. "We will head to Iwagakure in the Land of Earth first."

These were just the basics anyway. There were far more advanced concepts like space fighters, cruise missiles, spaceships, and planet destroying cannons.

But those were still painfully distant from the current shinobi world.

As they moved, Kenichi also checked his research cheat code.

[Current research subject: Chakra parasite]

[Research progress: 37.9%]

[Secondary elective task 1: Develop a solid fuel rocket with a strike range of eight kilometers]

[Secondary elective task 2: Achieve groundbreaking research results on the Sharingan]

After receiving the blueprints for the uranium refining device, he had been assigned a new mission.

His research on chakra parasites was crawling forward, but these two new elective tasks gave him a headache.

Solid fuel rockets were not for exploring space.

In his previous life, this was called a rocket launcher.

And the eight kilometer range instantly reminded Kenichi of a weapon that had once been famous worldwide.

The Katyusha rocket launcher.

"A solid fuel rocket…" Kenichi sighed. "Good grief. What am I supposed to do with that?"

Still, researching it sounded fun.

He might even find design inspiration for missiles, and eventually achieve long range delivery of thermobaric weapons.

Of course, missiles required satellite assistance, so Kenichi was now very curious about what reward would come from completing the elective mission.

As for "groundbreaking research results on the Sharingan," the description was vague enough to be annoying.

Kenichi did not know what it meant exactly.

But if he figured out a method to evolve the three tomoe Sharingan into the Mangekyo Sharingan, that would definitely count as groundbreaking.
