Chapter 59: Proportioning Problems
"So it really was Kumogakure." Kenichi let out a quiet sigh as he watched Kakashi and Guy disappear down the road. "Is war coming again? It should not turn into something huge, right?"
The Third Shinobi World War had only just ended. Now the Hidden Cloud was taking advantage of the chaos to stir trouble. Still, it should not escalate into a full scale Shinobi World War, otherwise the later Fourth Shinobi World War would make no sense.
"Kumogakure, huh…" Kenichi rubbed his chin. War was never a friendly time for most people, but for him and Orochimaru, it was a golden opportunity.
An excellent opportunity to obtain consumables.
And compared to the test subjects he was already familiar with from Konoha, Kenichi found the muscular men of Kumogakure far more interesting. He even wanted to learn their body training methods.
"In theory, using electricity to stimulate the body's cells is feasible," Kenichi muttered, glancing at his hands. "You could even force muscle fibers to vibrate at high speeds."
Of course, he had no intention of creating some ridiculous ninjutsu with an absurd name just because the idea existed. If he truly wanted to, developing something like a Lightning Release muscle stimulation technique would not be difficult.
And if someone had the wrong kind of ambition, they could probably misuse that current in all sorts of questionable ways.
Ahem. Kenichi cleared his throat and shook his head. This was not the time to study strange life hacks in the middle of a brewing conflict. It was not like he could defeat enemies by embarrassing them into surrender.
He only remembered one detail from earlier training. When he practiced Chidori, the violent current in his hand had stimulated his nerves so strongly that his hand trembled, forcing him to steady it with his other hand.
If he used controlled current repeatedly to stimulate muscle groups, it should produce a training effect. But that method would only work for shinobi. Kenichi had already realized something obvious in this world.
Shinobi and ordinary humans were not the same kind of existence.
After Kakashi left, Kenichi immediately headed for the laboratory. If he delayed any longer, the contents inside his sealing scroll would degrade, and that would be a headache he did not want.
Kakashi paused and glanced back once. He found nothing. Still, an uneasy feeling lingered, as if something had been off for a moment.
"Is the lab still operational?" Kenichi approached cautiously, scanning the area. This facility was hidden in the mountains beneath a cliff. It required chakra to cross the concealed route and open the entrance.
That alone prevented ordinary people from discovering it.
Nothing like a random discovery had happened so far, but being safe was better than being sorry. If it ever did happen, it would become a disaster. Keeping it hidden was the smartest choice.
Compared to the lab that was constantly maintained before, this one felt deserted. No one was around, and most of the internal systems were inactive.
Fortunately, even if much of the ninja world was inconvenient, power was not hard to obtain. Once Kenichi started the fuel generator, the base rumbled back to life.
"It always feels a bit off." Kenichi stared at the generator and scratched his head. The longer he lived in this world, the stranger its technology felt.
On the surface, it resembled a medieval era, yet it had electricity, engines, and even small countries like the Land of Waves used fishing boats with engines.
Electricity had become part of daily life. Utility poles could be seen along streets. This base, however, could not connect to any external power grid, so it relied on generators.
With the power restored, Kenichi hurriedly unpacked his sealing scroll and placed the contents into specialized storage instruments. That way, he would not have to worry about immediate degradation.
Even then, he discovered that some of the bacteria in the petri dishes had died.
"Damn it," Kenichi muttered. "Weren't you arrogant little monsters inside a human body?"
Inside living tissue, bacteria fought chakra, the immune system, drugs, and antibiotics. They survived like stubborn warlords. Yet outside, they died after a short disruption.
Staring at the dead cultures, Kenichi suddenly had a strange idea.
What if he gave bacteria chakra and observed what happened?
If bacteria could refine chakra on their own, what would the ninja world turn into? A germ revolution? A living dead crisis? It was not impossible that the end result would resemble a zombie outbreak in a Naruto world.
Still, he already had research projects in progress. That idea could only be recorded in his inspiration notebook for now.
"Either way, I cannot keep experimenting inside the lab anymore," Kenichi murmured. "If I blow up another one, my teacher might kill me."
He carefully brought out the raw materials for thermobaric explosives and prepared for more tests. This time, he would not add any chakra. First, he would fine tune the proportions and find the most powerful stable formula. Once he had a reliable thermobaric mixture, only then would he gradually incorporate chakra again.
These tests could not be conducted inside the laboratory. Kenichi did not have enough money to burn facilities for fun.
So he made a decision.
He would prepare the mixtures inside the lab, record each ratio precisely, label every sample with a number, and then take them outside to detonate and measure their power.
As for building a full thermobaric bomb every single time, Kenichi was tempted. But the materials were not easy to gather, so he abandoned the idea. Once he locked the ratio, the rest would become easier.
This stage was tedious and demanded obsessive precision. Sometimes a difference of one gram could produce a completely different result.
To handle that, Kenichi prepared a dedicated notebook to record every ratio and every outcome, watching for any unexpected surprises hidden in the data.
Meanwhile, in the Land of Rain, Orochimaru personally experienced the power of the Rinnegan. The completely unreasonable force of Shinra Tensei made his eyes burn with fervor.
This was the power of the Sage's Eye.
Orochimaru would definitely seize the Akatsuki organization sooner or later.
Nagato looked down at Orochimaru with irritation simmering behind his calm. What was wrong with this master and disciple pair? Were they both insane? This one, especially, had been eager to test his abilities the moment he arrived.
"Orochimaru," Nagato said coldly, "do not forget your mission."
Akatsuki desperately needed money.
