Chapter 48: Sharingan
"Not bad luck."
Kenichi Amamiya smiled as he watched the two bandits in front of him collapse to the ground, their bodies twitching uncontrollably.
He had not expected to run into more bandits again after only walking a short distance. This time there were only two of them.
"P please, let us go! This is our first time doing this!"
The man still barely conscious clawed at the dirt, struggling to speak.
He felt unbelievably unlucky. He had thought that robbing this lone merchant would be an easy way to improve his life. Who would have guessed that the man riding alone with a cart of goods was actually a shinobi?
Was the economy really so bad now that even ninja had turned to doing business?
Kenichi curled his lip.
These two had not sounded like this when they had first jumped out. He preferred that earlier arrogant swagger much more than this current pathetic groveling.
"Please, my old mother is waiting for me to come home..."
The bandit sobbed so hard that snot dripped from his nose.
"Huh? I am not letting you guilt trip me with your tragic backstory."
Kenichi clicked his tongue in annoyance, then brought the back of his blade down sharply on the heads of both men, knocking them completely unconscious.
Their bodies went limp, nerves still spasming, but they would not be moving anywhere for a while.
"Let me think. The steps for Impure World Reincarnation are..."
Kenichi ran through the sequence of hand seals and procedure in his mind, then grabbed both bandits by the ankles and dragged them into a more secluded cave nearby.
Once inside, he arranged the first bandit according to the exact steps required for the Impure World Reincarnation technique.
The second man he simply tied up and left against the wall.
He could only resurrect one First Hokage at a time anyway.
"Rise, my warrior."
Kenichi pressed his hands together and murmured the final words.
The sacrifice in front of him twisted and shifted, the bandit's body reshaping into the familiar appearance of the First Hokage.
The figure slowly began to open his eyes.
However, before those eyes could fully open, the First Hokage's face started to melt like wax. The entire body followed a moment later, collapsing into a ruined, useless husk.
Kenichi's mouth twitched.
As expected of the God of Shinobi. His strength really was ridiculous.
An ordinary person could not even withstand his soul.
"This one is no good. And I am guessing this one will not be any better."
Kenichi glanced at the second unconscious bandit and scratched his head.
Impure World Reincarnation was incredibly powerful, but its practicality was very limited in its current state.
If he wanted the First Hokage to display combat power even close to what he had in life, then at the very least the sacrifice would need to be around Jonin level.
Kenichi, however, did not need the First Hokage to fight for him.
What he wanted was the First Hokage's knowledge.
For that, in theory, even a Genin level body should have been enough.
"Should I try Kushina Uzumaki instead?"
Kenichi rubbed his chin.
He had collected a few strands of Kushina's hair back during the funeral for the Fourth Hokage and his wife.
But when he thought about the Uzumaki clan's terrifying sealing techniques, he gave up on the idea.
Besides, there was no real point in resurrecting Kushina right now.
"Lucky guy."
Kenichi looked at the unconscious bandit and sighed.
Since ordinary people were useless as sacrifices for the First Hokage, he would have to wait until he had the chance to try using a Genin.
A short while later, Kenichi clapped his hands clean and walked out of the cave.
The interior was completely empty, showing no trace that anyone had ever been there.
[Current research progress: 99.99 percent]
Kenichi glanced at the notification from his cheat ability.
His cheat had very low presence and rarely spoke up, but it was undeniably useful.
It seemed he was about to finish analyzing the three tomoe Sharingan.
He needed to decide what he would study next.
"I have a lot of things on hand that I can research," Kenichi muttered to himself.
The Byakugan was one option.
Now that he had betrayed the village, the Kaguya clan's Shikotsumyaku would likely also become available for dissection and study sooner or later.
Both were excellent experimental materials.
However, considering that he was heading to the Land of Rain and would very likely encounter Nagato and Konan of the Akatsuki, his gaze shifted toward the piece of amber in his pack.
It was parasite amber, said to contain creatures that could control others back in the era of the Sage of Six Paths.
No one knew if that legend was actually true, but if it was, then Nagato might find it very interesting.
At the very least, the parasites had once been dangerous enough for the Sage of Six Paths to personally eliminate them.
That alone proved they were not simple little bugs.
The problem was that he could only devote himself fully to one research topic at a time.
Kenichi hesitated for a long moment.
In the end, he decided to start with the parasites.
The Byakugan and bloodline limits could be studied at any time, as long as he had the right corpses and materials.
The parasites inside the amber, on the other hand, were already dead.
Unless he could find a way to revive them, there would be no way to test their true capabilities.
That limitation became the key factor in his decision.
When Kenichi woke up the next morning, he immediately felt that the world around him was different.
If the way he had seen the world before was like watching on a screen with a resolution of ten eighty, then what he saw now was closer to eight K.
He could clearly make out the tiny vibrations of a mosquito's wings as it flew past.
That startled Kenichi for a moment.
Then realization dawned on his face.
He must have completed his research while he was asleep, and the cheat had directly granted him the three tomoe Sharingan.
"So this is the three tomoe Sharingan..."
Kenichi stared into the mirror.
His eyes were now exactly like those of an Uchiha.
Remembering Kakashi's physical condition, Kenichi quickly tested his eyes, focusing chakra into them and then pulling it back again, carefully checking for strain or side effects.
But he soon discovered that he felt completely fine.
There was no burden, no dizziness, no fatigue at all.
It was as if he had been born into the Uchiha clan, perfectly adapted to the eyes from the start.
"So that means I can probably evolve them into a Mangekyo Sharingan as well?"
Kenichi stroked his chin again.
For the Uchiha, the evolution of the Sharingan usually required intense emotional trauma, such as watching a loved one die right in front of them.
Kenichi, however, was far more interested in the mechanism behind that fact.
He wanted to know how emotions and spiritual energy actually affected the Sharingan.
Once this mission in the Land of Rain was over, he planned to return to the lab and design experiments specifically to test how different emotional stimuli changed the eyes.
Maybe then he would uncover the secret behind the Sharingan's evolution.
And maybe, along the way, he would gain other unexpected discoveries as well.
As for his current eyes, Kenichi was not worried in the slightest.
He had already left Konoha, and Orochimaru had given him a pair of three tomoe treasures as backup.
If anyone asked, he could simply say that he had transplanted them himself.
