Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Post-War Calm, Expansion Operations Begin

Pulling out a chair and sitting down, Doug nodded toward Felix. Andrew approached carrying a cup of water, placing it before Doug as he asked.

"How do you feel?"

"These Vanguard Fighters of the Earth Alliance Forces are easier to deal with than the Mobius units in space, but their numbers far exceed those of the Earth Alliance's Mobius in space. Ultimately, the numerical advantage offset their combat disadvantages."

Taking a sip of water, Doug offered his assessment.

Felix smiled slightly at Doug.

"It's normal for there to be more Vanguard Fighters than Mobius units. After all, before these Earth Alliance nations formally entered space on a large scale, they operated primarily on Earth. Naturally, they needed to produce more equipment like Vanguard Fighters. Over time, it's normal for such equipment to accumulate."

After speaking, Felix patted Doug's shoulder and continued.

"Now we can rest for a while. You should enjoy this period of calm too!"

"I doubt the calm will last very long."

Looking at Felix, Doug voiced his clear understanding of the situation.

Felix didn't respond to this.

"Report!"

A voice called from outside the room.

Looking toward the door, Felix called out.

"Enter!"

The single word reached the doorway.

A soldier standing at the entrance stepped into the room, stopping two paces from Felix and saluting.

"Captain Griffith, Captain Barthfeld, Captain Doug, good day!"

"What is it?"

Doug looked at the soldier and inquired.

The soldier nodded, then handed a document to Felix.

"Captain Griffith, this is the casualty report and combat results from the recent operation."

"Alright, I understand."

Accepting the report, Felix acknowledged.

The soldier saluted again, then turned and left the room.

After his departure, Felix opened the report and examined its contents. Doug and Andrew watched Felix and asked.

"Felix, how were our losses this time?"

"Combat losses are slightly over one-third, specifically ninety-three MS units. In terms of combat achievements, we destroyed sixty percent of the Earth Alliance's air power, which amounts to five hundred eighty Vanguard Fighters. As for their ground forces, including abandoned tanks, we achieved nearly one hundred percent destruction!"

As they inquired, Felix detailed all the losses and results for them. Hearing such significant losses, both fell into silence.

After a long pause, Andrew spoke.

"Across three consecutive battles, we've lost over two hundred MS units here, with more than two hundred excellent ZAFT warriors resting eternally on this land."

"Such is war."

Doug replied calmly.

Sitting in his chair, Felix listened to Doug's brutally honest and cruel words, his eyes lowering without uttering a response.

...

Meanwhile

At the Earth Alliance Forces frontline command headquarters

Hope stared at the battle losses and results, sitting in his chair with clenched fists, his expression dark and terrifying.

This intense emotion vanished as quickly as it appeared, replaced by a look of defeat on Hope's face as his clenched fists relaxed.

He now clearly understood that his military career was essentially over, and what awaited him next was a court-martial at headquarters.

During the quiet waiting, the communication system in the room chimed.

Roused from his silent vigil, Hope looked at the incoming communication and reached out to accept the call.

"Hope! Hand over your duties to your replacement, then take a military aircraft to headquarters in Alaska."

The emotionless words echoed through the communication channel.

Hope looked at the commander on the screen and raised his hand in salute.

"Understood, Commander."

The communication was cut off as soon as he finished speaking.

Looking at the ended transmission, Hope lowered his saluting hand and sank back into his chair.

After some thought, Hope began drafting a defense document on his computer, hoping to secure a better outcome through his arguments.

"I hope this will be useful!"

He murmured to himself and continued working.

...

Time passed, days and nights alternated, and before they knew it, it was April 11th.

At Victoria Spaceport that day

Felix, Andrew, and Doug gathered together.

"The Ouroboros Operation has begun. Neutron Jammers have been deployed extensively across Earth."

Checking the time, Felix informed Andrew and Doug. Both Andrew and Doug nodded, also glancing at the time.

Turning to Felix, Andrew said.

"With the widespread deployment of Neutron Jammers, the Earth Alliance Forces probably won't continue their desperate assault on Victoria Spaceport."

"Oh?"

Doug sounded curious, looking at Andrew with a questioning expression. Felix glanced at Doug and explained before Andrew could respond.

"After the Neutron Jammers are deployed, they'll interfere with nuclear fission activities on Earth. With nuclear fission disrupted, nations like the Earth Alliance will face an energy crisis.

Industrial capacity will shrink instantly. With reduced production capacity, they can no longer afford to throw resources at holding this position. After all, losing too many forces here would affect their deployments in other theaters.Doug immediately understood, feeling slightly annoyed at not having thought it through before asking.

Felix looked at Doug and Andrew before shifting the topic.

"Over the next few days, we need to closely monitor the movements of the Earth Alliance Forces to ensure we have real-time intelligence.

This will allow us to adjust our deployments accordingly!"

"Understood!"

Both responded to Felix simultaneously.

The three remained there to continue their discussions.

That afternoon

While resting in his room, Felix received a communication from the Ministry of Defense.

"Good afternoon, Chairman!"

Seeing Patrick's face, Felix saluted and greeted him. Patrick nodded in acknowledgment and asked Felix.

"Felix, what's the current situation at Victoria Spaceport?"

"Everything is normal. The Earth Alliance Forces have been relatively quiet lately and haven't continued their attacks targeting the Spaceport. We maintain firm control over the entire Spaceport!"

Looking at Patrick, Felix carefully reported the situation word by word. Patrick nodded with some satisfaction and hummed in acknowledgment before continuing to speak to Felix.

"In a few days when the Spaceport has stabilized, hand over command of the Spaceport to Barthfeld and Doug. You will lead the troops back to PLANT."

"Yes, Chairman."
