Sir Victor started to change a lot; he began to control every part of my personal life. One night, I heard a sound at my window. When I looked out, I saw Silas. He was calling to me, asking me to jump down, but I simply leaned against the frame and said no. He pouted and climbed up to my room to ask what was wrong. I told him everything that had happened, and he suddenly left the room.
I didn't know why, but things only got worse after that. Victor hired someone to watch me, and even in my sleeping quarters, the Head Maid started checking on me constantly. It felt like I was under heavy security, but I didn't know why. I couldn't take it anymore, so I asked Victor, 'Sir, did I do something wrong? Why am I being watched?'
When I said that, Victor suddenly cupped my face. 'I'm helping you, Carla honey,' he said. 'You love me, right? Don't worry, I won't let Silas cause you any more trouble.' He leaned in very close, and I pushed him away with all my might. Suddenly, Silas burst through the door! He pulled me away from Victor, grasping my hand tightly with both of his and hiding me behind him. Seeing Silas there, my eyes began to fill with tears.
Silas took me to his study and made me sit on the couch to soothe me. He asked, "Do you like me, Carla?" When I nodded, he hugged me tightly and whispered, "I won't let anything happen to you."
That night, my room was strangely silent. Suddenly, Angelin arrived. I told her what had happened, and she left for a moment, returning with food. "Don't worry," she said. "The Head Maid has left because the manor is in chaos. The Head of the Nightfall family—the father of Sir Victor and Sir Silas—has arrived. Eat quickly; they may call for you at any time. If Sir Silas says he will take care of this, he will."
I waited, but no one called for me. In the morning, the Head Maid returned and told me that from now on, I would work directly under the master of the house, Arthur Nightfall. I was incredibly nervous. Arthur Nightfall was respected by the entire nation; no one even dared to look him in the eye. I worked in an office with six other people and rarely even saw him. During this time, I met Silas frequently, and for a while, things went smoothly.
On April 20th, I discovered I was pregnant with Silas's child. I knew I couldn't hide it, so I tucked a note into a document I was sending to Silas's office: "After work, meet me at our usual place." Our place was the cliffside.
That evening, I finished my work late. As I passed Silas's study, I saw him working with Victor. I tried to signal him to read the document, but he didn't understand. The Head Maid called me away, and I went to the cliff to wait. Silas never came.
The next morning, Victor was gone. He had disappeared. Detectives hired by Sir Arthur found a note in Victor's study—it was the note I had written. Everyone was in shock. I tried to explain the note was meant for Silas, but they didn't believe me. Arthur ordered Silas to be kept under watch.
After two weeks of investigation, there were still no leads. When I finally saw Silas again, he came to my room and asked what was happening. I showed him my stomach. He broke down, falling to his knees in grief before leaving.
As the days passed, my pregnancy symptoms began to show. I tried to resign, but the Head Maid made my life miserable. Eventually, the investigators began to look into my past. The secret I had kept hidden for years came to light: my mother had died at the stake because they called her a witch. My aunt had hidden me for my safety, but now, the truth was out. They called me a witch, too, and threw me into prison.
Silas did not come to meet me, and nobody would listen to me. It felt as though they had all been waiting for this exact moment.
