Chapter 90 - Retract Your Great Fire Annihilation

Ordinary chakra is formed by balancing physical energy and spiritual energy.

Sage chakra, also called the power of the sage, is created by drawing in natural energy from the surroundings and balancing it with one's physical and spiritual energy.

Its strength needs no explanation—

even Six Paths–level beings cannot ignore it.

It massively boosts every aspect of a shinobi's power, making it an essential piece of Soren's grand power-evolution plan.

And the concept itself—three energies in perfect unity—

reminded Soren, as a transmigrator, instantly of cultivation.

Compared with waiting decades for Orochimaru and the others to grow and evolve bloodlines, Soren was far more interested in using his Ascension Point System to incorporate sage chakra directly into his own framework—

creating a power system that could climb endlessly upward.

That would be the beginning of Soren escaping the limitations of chakra and bloodline—

and stepping toward true longevity.

After lunch, Soren arrived outside Konoha.

Two small green toads were already waiting respectfully.

"Hokage-sama, I am Fukasaku, elder of Mount Myōboku. This is my wife, Shima."

They knew how seriously the Great Toad Sage regarded Soren, and introduced themselves humbly.

Soren didn't waste time.

"I want the method of sage training."

The two toads exchanged a knowing glance.

Fukasaku said:

"Then please sign our summoning contract, Hokage-sama."

Shima unfurled a long blood-seal scroll.

Soren even saw Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo's signature at the top.

He had no objection to bringing Mount Myōboku under his influence.

He signed decisively.

In the next instant—

poof!

Both toads vanished, and Soren immediately sensed the spatial signature of Mount Myōboku's secret realm—its coordinates, its dimensional ripple pattern—recorded into his mind.

A moment later, a force enveloped him.

Without resisting, he allowed Reverse Summoning to draw him in.

He arrived in Mount Myōboku—quiet, elegant, lush with mystical flowers and herbs.

"Hokage-sama, this way. The Great Toad Sage wishes to see you."

Countless curious toads watched as Soren followed Fukasaku and Shima. His Eternal Mangekyō spun faintly; with Tenchō Tenson, he swept across half of Mount Myōboku in an instant.

He saw the colossal trio of battle toads—

and even more shocking, a gargantuan rocky mountain-shaped toad two to three hundred meters tall.

And in the very center—

the Great Toad Sage Gamamaru opened his massive eyes, glanced toward Soren, and smiled gently.

(He sensed the dimensional scan… impressive old toad.)

Soren quietly readied a teleport escape just in case.

"The Great Toad Sage is inside, Hokage-sama."

Soren entered the ancient temple.

On the throne marked with the character "仙", the ancient sage waited.

"Thank you for coming, Hokage-sama."

"I am curious—what have you seen?" Soren asked, Eternal eyes shimmering. "A glimpse of the future?"

"Hokage-sama sees through everything."

The Great Toad Sage smiled warmly.

"You will open a new path for the shinobi world. Mount Myōboku will prosper alongside you. Approaching you now… is simply my wish to form goodwill—and allow you early access to sage training."

"And Mount Myōboku will serve under your command."

Soren's gaze sharpened.

"Would the Great Toad Sage also fight for me?"

"Gamamaru will obey your wishes."

Such softness.

Such submission.

It almost made Soren narrow his eyes in amusement.

In the future, it seemed, this old toad either gained huge benefits from him—

or suffered greatly.

Knowing himself, the second scenario seemed more likely.

But since Mount Myōboku had shown sincerity, Soren had no reason to reject such a useful power.

After a brief discussion, Soren followed Fukasaku and Shima to begin official sage training.

Mount Myōboku, Ryūchi Cave, Shikkotsu Forest—

the three great sage lands all practiced sage chakra differently, with different consequences for failure.

In Myōboku, failing meant becoming a stone frog—

eternally petrified by natural energy.

"Hokage-sama," Fukasaku began seriously, "to produce sage chakra, you must let your normal chakra draw in natural energy and balance all three. If natural energy exceeds balance, you will be taken over. If it's insufficient, you cannot activate Sage Mode."

Soren sat cross-legged on a tall stone pillar overlooking a forest of petrified toads.

"Below you," Fukasaku continued, "are former contractors who failed to become sages."

"But with me here, feel free to try. If danger appears, I'll pull you out."

Soren glanced once at Fukasaku's wooden staff.

Then he nodded.

Guided by the elder, he slowly reached out to natural energy—

Fukasaku's eyes widened.

Then widened further.

Then nearly bulged out.

Soren's eyelids shifted—

and the characteristic sage eye markings formed instantly.

(First attempt… and he enters Sage Mode??)

(Is this the Sharingan's perception boost? Or is the Hokage simply a monstrous genius?)

Soren opened his eyes.

His Eternal Mangekyō pupils had shifted into a straight-line slit—a sage-adapted pattern.

Fukasaku swallowed.

"Congratulations, Hokage-sama. You have mastered Sage Mode."

"But remember—absorbing natural energy requires stillness. Sage Mode lasts only as long as your sage chakra supply."

"You can prolong combat time in two ways:

Sage Art: Two Lives Technique — fuse with a sage toad that generates sage chakra for you.

Or—

Use shadow clones to produce sage chakra for you."

"Understood." Soren stood.

The new chakra surged inside him—violent, intoxicating.

"Fukasaku Sage… may I test sage techniques here?"

Mount Myōboku had shown him respect; Soren wasn't the type to behave like a barbarian and damage their home maliciously.

"This place is used for sage training anyway. Hokage-sama, feel free."

Fukasaku felt genuinely honored.

A heartbeat later—

Soren inhaled—

and unleashed an enormous blast.

A hundred-meter radius instantly erupted into a towering inferno.

Fukasaku froze.

(You're joking… this power…!)

The flames continued spreading—

wider—

hotter—

"Hokage-sama!! That's enough—that's enough!!" Fukasaku shrieked.

"Please retract your Great Fire Annihilation!"
