Mammoth's fist slammed into the ground where Cyborg had been standing a heartbeat before. "Stand still, tin man!"
"How about no?" Cyborg fired his sonic cannon. The blast caught Mammoth square in the chest and moved him exactly three inches.
Donna swooped in from above, driving her fist into Mammoth's jaw. Knocking him to the ground.
"Little girl hits like Amazon," he taunted as he rose to his feet. "Mammoth hits harder!"
"Says the guy who just at dirt." She shot back already on him as they began to exchange blows in close quarters.
Kid Flash arms were moving so fast the created the gust of wind dispersed the gas. "Gotta be faster than that!"
She touched the ground. The asphalt beneath Wally's feet became air as he started to fall.
"Speed's useless if your falling through the air," Shimmer said.
Robin's grappling hook sailed through the air, wrapping around Kid Flash's arm before he could plummet. Launching a barrage of birdarangs as soon as Kid Flash touched the ground.
She transformed the projectiles mid-flight into a rubber ball that bounced harmlessly away. "Make me, boy wonder."
Beast Boy shifted from eagle to rhino mid-charge, horn lowered at the small one with the jetpack—Gizmo.
"Stupid grass-stain!" Gizmo's backpack deployed a mechanical spider-arm that caught Beast Boy by the horn and flipped him overhead. "Gizmo's tech beats nature every time!"
Beast Boy was a bird before he hit the ground twisted into a snake, and lunged for Gizmo's as he fell. The kid's jets fired, lifting him out of reach.
"Can't catch me, booger-brain!"
Starfire's starbolts forced Gizmo into evasive maneuvers, his jets sputtering.
Raven faced the eye-visor one—See-More. His laser trained on her shield, as she appeared from a portal behind him. Soul self already reaching out the grab him.
He spun, his visor cycling through settings. The eye inflated like a balloon, lifting him into the air. "Can't catch what you can't reach!"
Bubble projectiles launched from his helmet. Raven flew into the air catching up to him in an instant
"You're slow."
She grabbed him and threw him to the ground with telekinesis.
Hikaru ducked under another hex bolt and fired a photon beam. Jinx cartwheeled aside, the blast scorching the pavement where she'd stood. She came out of the roll with both hands glowing, firing rapid bursts. he turn into light appearing behind him landing a blow on her back.
"I'm done pulling punches," he admitted, as Jinx hit the ground this time struggling to get up.
Jinx assessed the situation in a heartbeat. Mammoth was getting double-teamed and slowing down. Gizmo's jetpack was smoking as he took a one way trip to the moon. Shimmer was struggling as Robin and Kid flash closed the distance. See-More's bubbles were popping faster than he could make them.
The tide was turning, and not in their favor.
"Fearsome Five!" Jinx's voice cut through the chaos, raising both hands skyward. "Pattern Omega!"
Her teammates disengaged immediately, regrouping around her position. Hikaru shot out light threads already anticipating a retreat.
The hex bolt she unleashed wasn't aimed at any Titan. It shot straight up into the support beam of the building above them—the same building they'd ambushed from.
Bad luck energy rippled through the metal structure.
Bolts popped. Welds failed. Glass shattered.
The entire corner of the building began to collapse.
"Titans!" Robin's voice was sharp with urgency. "Containment! Now!"
Civilians scattered. Debris rained down. Starfire caught falling debris before it hit a civilian. Donna flew into the collapsing section, bracing it with her strength. Cyborg fired his sonic cannon to break apart larger chunks into manageable pieces. Raven's dark energy wrapped around steel beams, halting their descent. Kid Flash evacuated bystanders at super-speed. Beast Boy shifted into a pterodactyl, grabbing people out of the danger zone.
Hikaru transformed into light, shooting through the chaos to catch a mother and child before a concrete slab crushed them.
When he looked up again, a huge cloud of dust had appeared where the Fearsome Five had been
Except for Jinx's voice, echoing from somewhere within.
"See ya around, Angel boy."
By the time the dust cleared they were gone. It took twenty minutes to stabilize the building and make sure no one was hurt. Paramedics arrived. Police cordoned off the area. The Titans regrouped near the pizza place—where their half-eaten dinner sat cold and forgotten.
Robin pulled up footage on his wrist computer, rewinding to capture images of their attackers.
"H.I.V.E.," he said quietly. "I've heard of them. Notorious criminal organization." His jaw tightened. "Now they're training kids our age to be professional criminals."
"They were coordinated," Donna said, rubbing her shoulder where Mammoth had landed a hit. "That wasn't a random attack."
"We were targeted" Hikaru said. Everyone looked at him. He shrugged. "They must see us as a thorn in their side."
Raven floated down, her hood shadowing her face. "They'll be back."
"Let them come," Cyborg said. "Next time, we'll be ready."
Starfire looked at Hikaru, concern evident in her green eyes. "Barely a scratch."
He flexed a bicep in a joking manner. "I'm fine. Takes more than bad luck to keep me down."
Robin studied the footage again, his expression unreadable behind his mask. "We need to find out where they're operating from."
Kid Flash picked up a cold pizza slice, looked at it sadly, then set it back down. "So much for dinner."
Beast Boy's stomach growled. "We could order more?"
"Later." Robin closed his computer. "Right now, we need to debrief. Tower. Now."
They moved toward their vehicles, the easy going atmosphere from earlier replaced by a grim determination.
Hikaru flew beside Starfire, with Raven, Donna and Beast Boy on the other side. His mind replayed the fight—Jinx's was good, her tactical awareness, the way she'd read the battlefield and called the retreat at the perfect moment.
"See ya around, Angel boy."
He had a feeling those words would come to fruition sooner than later.
