Smoke choked the air as the demon raiders poured through the fields, their snarls echoing across the night. Kael and Lira dragged the frightened child to safety near the well, where a group of villagers huddled.
The gate shuddered again, and the guard shouted, "They're breaking through!"
Kael turned to his grandfather. "We can't hold them off like this. Tell me what I need to do!
His grandfather's face was grim, illuminated by the flicker of fire, "There is a cost, Kael. Once the necklace is broken, the power of the Silver Dragon will be yours, but your life will never be the same. The dragon's spirit will merge with yours; you may never be able to return to your normal life."
"I don't care! " Kael shouted, gripping the necklace until the edges dug into his palm. "If I don't do something, they'll destroy everything!"
Lira grabbed his arm."Kael, think! There must be another way - if you lose yourself, what will we fight for?
The sky rumbled as a shadow swept over the moon. The same silver shape appeared again, clearer at this time—a vast dragon with scales like moonlight, circling silently above.
Kael stared at it, his heart racing. Was it calling him? Or warning him?
His grandfather stepped forward. "If you choose this path, break the necklace when the moment comes. The Silver Dragon does not answer hesitation."
The barricade splintered, and the demons surged through. Screams filled the village square. Kael clenched his jaw, his fingers tightening around the necklace. The choice was up to him.
