Some more days had passed and Lucky began the day by patrolling the defensive lines to see its reinforcing progress.
He first started at one corner of the reinforcements, the side which was bordering the forest.
'Good, it seems that this part is finished.'
Just to be safe, the steel-reinforced concrete walls were extended into the forest.
The walls were now going to be fully surrounding the city.
Then, after checking the other side as well, he decided that it eould be fine to quicken the process.
He then readied his stance and jumped towards the air at the speed of sound.
Reaching the peak height of around 500 meters, he quickly scanned the defensive walls in its entirety.
'Good, at this pace, we can finish the outer side's walls by the end of the month.'
Why didn't he do this earlier? Because he needed to see the details up close.
If there were imperfections to the walls, he would immediately halt the construction and tell the workers to redo them.
After all, he wasn't working with stones, but reinforced concrete.
Due to the time constraints, reinforced concrete was chosen as the wall material.
After all, large stones took time to carve out. Not to mention, they were slow to carry by even the goblin vampires.
The best he could do with the current pace was use reinforced concrete.
It was easy to make, easy to shape, and fast enough to cure before the siege started.
When Lucky landed in an empty field, a group of goblin refugees nearby jumped in shock.
Due to his increased weight from the training, it was as if a truck fell from the sky.
The refugees were frightened at the scene, and they were even more frightened at the sight of Lucky walking it off like it was nothing.
Lucky merely waved at them and walked to his next destination.
'Heh, looks like they're new refugees. The ones who've been here for more than a month are accustomed to seeing vampires, especially me.'
Even though war was imminent, new refugees still kept coming in.
This was partly due to Elena's efforts in enticing nearby villagers.
Due to the civil war, many remote villages weren't in great shape. Most of their food and money were taxed for the war efforts.
When the villagers heard about the abundant food and the chance to become immortal by becoming vampires, they abandoned their nationalism and morals to take refuge in Oer and possibly become vampires.
What was the point in worrying about the imminent war when they could die at any moment from hunger, thirst, and sickness.
Day by day, their numbers kept growing.
'At this point, there'd be more refugees than the original inhabitants,' Lucky thought.

*BOOM*
*BANG*
Entering the Inside District, Lucky could hear booms and bangs in the distance.
They were sounds coming from the military headquarters.
When his steps neared the headquarters, the explosion noises became louder.
*BOOOOOM*
He could also smell something familiar.
A smell that any person on Earth could generally recognize, the smell of fireworks.
Entering the nearby field, he could see black marks and craters on the ground.
When he saw that Ella was also there, they greeted each other with a light kiss on the lips.
Lucky then started asking, "How are the experiments going?"
"It's going great. Today's the last day on testing the gunpowder ratio. And we've already found the best stabilizer for the thing you call dynamite," she responded.
"Really? What did you find works best?" He asked in excitement.
"Wood pulp," she answered.
Then she added, "we've tried clay, dough, soil, and many other materials, but dried wood pulp worked the best."
"None of the other materials could absorb and stabilize the nitroglycerin as good as dried wood pulp. Moreover, we're already making wood pulp for our paper trade, so we have an abundance of it," she further added.
"Good, you're smarter than even I am in science," praised Lucky whilst patting her hair.
"Hehe," she smiled brightly and hugged him whilst giggling.
"I have a surprise," said Lucky.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Here," said Lucky whilst handing over a small rectangular box.
Opening the small rectangular box, Ella found a pair of daggers.
Not just any daggers, but elven ones.
Ella gasped and jumped in joy.
"How did you know I love collecting small blades?!" Asked Ella excitedly.
"I heard from Erina. Besides, you were always cherishing the kitchen knives we stole from the goblin chief back then," said Lucky.
"How did you find these daggers?" She asked.
"I saw that Erina had found them during one of her trips. She never used it so I asked her to give them to me to gift them to you. I then asked a dwarf to polish it."
"Uwaaah!!! Thank you!!! These things are made of mithril, they naturally absorb mana, so they're good against mages!!"
"Haha, you're welcome. You're the least powerful of your siblings, so use it when you need to defend yourself in the war."
After some more brief moments of flirting and casual conversation, the two finally moved to some more serious talk.
"Erina has found out the exact number of mages," said Lucky.
"Five 3rd Circle mages are coming," he added.
The mood quickly soured, but it was better that way. It was better to be properly prepared.
"Give me 2 more days, the perfect gunpowder ratio should be out by then," said Ella.
"Good, here's my tweaked design for our new weapons. I've consulted Brutus and the other dwarves, this should be the final design," responded Lucky whilst handing over over 50 stacks of weapon blueprints.
They consisted of different types of bullets, rifles, pistols, magazines, mortars, grenades, and many more.
"The dwarves are already making some of them, so we should be done equipping our guys with them by the time the bullets are manufactured," he added.
"If the dwarves are already in the process of making them, then what should I do with these?" She asked.
"Learn from it. Teach the researchers as well. We can improve them together in the future," said Lucky.
"Oh, and this stuff shouldn't be taught in the academy, it's simply too dangerous," he added.
