Chapter 83 - Chapter 83: Give Me Some Face

Creak! Creak!

The enormous Helicarrier let out a deafening noise at more than ten meters above the ground.

The upgraded magnetic control was powerful enough to adjust the state of the entire massive vessel.

Because the force did not come from the internal engines, magnetic force acted simultaneously across the whole ship, causing all the joints to emit teeth-aching friction sounds.

Nick Fury's expression froze at this moment, his single remaining eye locked tightly onto Corin's raised palm.

That hand seemed to be releasing some unbelievable magic. With a slight rotation, the Helicarrier's tilted angle was restored.

"Oh… my God! It's stabilized! The warship is back to level! Data normal! Data normal!"

Incredulous shouts came from the staff.

Nick Fury finally snapped out of his shock, though both hands were still gripping the railing tightly.

"Good heavens! Mr. Destiny, this is truly unbelievable magic!"

Almost instantly, Nick Fury confirmed that Corin had solved the Helicarrier's takeoff tilt with a simple lift of his hand.

This move had undoubtedly helped Director Fury save face in front of Captain Rogers and Banner at a critical moment.

But as the director of the agency, in front of so many subordinates, Nick Fury had to maintain the image of being in full control.

The hands gripping the railing instantly moved behind his back, drawing afterimages as he regained his cold composure. He said in a deep voice, "Ahem! Much obliged, Mr. Destiny."

"But without my order, please do not act lightly."

"After all, it's not easy for young people to get a chance to train."

As he spoke, with his back to everyone, he secretly shot Corin frantic looks.

As soon as his words fell, the gazes of the SHIELD agents toward the director all changed, "As expected of Director Fury, he already had a backup plan…"

"Even someone this powerful still has to follow the director's orders, so cool~"

"So the absence of the leader of Engine Three was deliberately arranged by the director?"

"The older the ginger, the spicier."

Leaving aside how Nick Fury seized the chance to massively boost his presence in front of his subordinates, Agent Hill could not agree with the director's face-saving behavior, "Hmph~ childish old man."

At close range, she knew very well that Director Fury had indeed been on the verge of exploding just now.

'If Mr. Silver Duke had really been his Plan B, the director would never have been that irritable.'

'What's more, the reason Mr. Silver Duke stepped in seemed to be because of my earlier plea for help.'

'What does that have anything to do with you, Nick Fury?'

'I didn't expect Mr. Silver Duke to really respond to my request… I need to find a chance to thank him…'

Thinking this, Agent Hill looked at Corin with gratitude and fell into thought about how to repay him.

A trace of embarrassment hid behind Director Fury's stern expression, while Corin looked at Nick Fury with a playful face, saying nothing.

At this moment, the red-haired agent Natasha Romanoff beside Banner was staring wide-eyed, frozen in a daze.

As a battle-hardened agent, she was extremely good at observation. That was precisely why the director had sent her to assess Tony Stark.

She could swear on her figure that the shock and disbelief in Fury's micro-expressions just now were absolutely genuine, the most honest reaction of the body.

Previously, Natasha had seriously studied Destiny's files and knew he was a super-soldier whose physical qualities far surpassed those of ordinary people.

He should be roughly on par with Captain America, who had been injected with the Super Soldier Serum.

But in Natasha's mind, Corin's character was far inferior to Captain Rogers' nobility.

Her profile of Corin was: A performance-type money-grubber with a tuxedo-mask fetish.

What had just happened brutally refreshed Natasha's understanding of Corin.

'If Destiny is a performance-type, then why, after doing something this shocking… did he so easily hand the stage over to Director Fury, and still look completely indifferent?'

'Could my assessment be wrong?'

Natasha's assessments had never gone wrong before.

She had to admit that Corin's methods had delivered a real shock to her.

'I thought Destiny was just a powerful warrior. I didn't expect him to also possess such outrageous abilities… magic, or a miracle?'

Just minutes ago, she still thought Destiny was an annoying bounty hunter who didn't know how to respect people.

But starting now, Agent Natasha decided to overturn her previous evaluation of Corin and observe this mysterious man up close.

A hint of curiosity also appeared in her gaze toward him.

Dr. Banner steadied himself awkwardly. He had a strong feeling: If the warship had really plunged straight into the sea as he had guessed, the Hulk inside him would probably have burst out and swum wildly for hundreds of nautical miles to carry him back to land.

Fortunately, that terrifying scenario did not happen, otherwise he would have ruined another suit.

After recovering, Banner could not help but frown. As a researcher, he found the sudden recovery of the warship impossible to understand.

"The engines are the warship's only source of power."

"A state that couldn't be corrected even by adjusting the engines actually returned to level on its own!"

"That's unscientific!"

"Unless there was external force involved…"

"But where would such a huge external force come from? A miracle?

"Impossible, impossible…"

"It must be that the warship's control system activated an emergency mechanism and forcibly adjusted the posture."

"Yes, that's it!"

"What a great design…"

Banner's low-key nature had placed him at the back of the group, so he never clearly saw Corin raise his hand.

Even after hearing Director Fury's words, he flat-out did not believe that a single person's power could move a behemoth weighing tens of thousands of tons.

His curiosity exploded, it was as if he had discovered a new research topic. His eyes had already flown to the control console, wishing he could jump down immediately and study it in depth.

Colonel Steve Rogers, Captain America, looked at Corin with a trace of regard flashing in his eyes.

Rogers, whose first impression of Corin had been fairly average, admitted that he had judged by appearances.

He was not the kind of stubborn scientist who worshiped science like Banner.

"Blind faith in science is itself a kind of superstition."

What he valued more was the naked reality happening right in front of him.

This was a lesson war had taught him.

If he himself could awaken from ice seventy years later, what could still be called outrageous?

If we don't believe the reality before our eyes, what can we believe?

Those so-called logically airtight theories?

Give me a break… Director Nick Fury would not lie. It had to be Corin who restored the warship's posture.

Although it was still unclear what method he had used, there was no doubt this person would become a powerful teammate.

A strong teammate was always better than a strong enemy.

Wasn't it?

"Raise global power to eight percent."

"Prepare to set sail, increase power output to maximum."

"Attention, all power is online, everything is ready."

"Wait! Something's wrong!"

Just as everyone had recovered from the tilt incident and was ready to proceed with takeoff step by step, the staff reported another anomaly.

"Speak!"

Nick Fury felt reassured. With Corin on site, it wasn't a big problem.

"Power output has reached maximum, but the altimeter shows we're still eighteen meters above sea level, not ascending."

As the engine roar grew louder, the metal hull once again emitted that teeth-aching friction sound.

The repeated anomalies tortured Nick Fury's nerves, "Is today just not a good day to take off? Why is there a hurdle at every step…"

He subconsciously looked toward Corin.

"Oh… please! Mr. Destiny…"

Nick Fury collapsed inwardly when he realized that Corin's raised hand had still not been lowered. He was squinting at him now, half-smiling.

He instantly understood that this anomaly was Corin's doing.

He had never released his control over the Helicarrier, so even with the engines at full power, it could not rise even an inch.

Fury walked over to Corin with a bitter smile and whispered, "Mr. Destiny, give me some face. There are so many people watching…"
