Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Furina and Kitten

Just as the light screen said, they are still a God and an Assistant Administrator; their moment of leisure is always just a "moment."

After the brief break ended, Yuto rose to bid farewell and returned to his office to continue handling the myriad of trivial matters.

Looking at the bizarre incidents that arose due to a so-called The Prophecy, Yuto felt utterly defeated.

There were people caught by the Marechaussee Phantom for streaking because they thought the end of the world was nigh, and mechanics tearing up contracts for the same reason...

Of course, there were also those who hugged a Melusine all day because they found her too cute.

Hey! That's kidnapping!

Upon seeing these things, Yuto at one point thought he had arrived in his previous life's Florida.

At this moment, he was like a cooked shrimp, sitting at his desk, his eyes fixed on the documents before him, muttering nonsensical phrases like "Nay! Brother!"

But there was nothing he could do.

As the highest-ranking Assistant Administrator, and to prevent such annoying matters from spreading further while doing his best to control public opinion, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and continue.

To put it abstractly...

Yuto had to piece himself back together first, then sit at his desk to approve the very things that made him feel defeated.

...

Time flowed by bit by bit, and before he knew it, Yuto had worked late into the night.

He leaned back in his chair, exhausted, muttering to himself:

"It's finally over..."

After a short rest, Yuto slowly stood up, stretched a bit, and then left his office.

Listening to the pattering rain outside the window, Yuto gently shook his head.

Although he didn't know why Neuvillette was sad again, he couldn't do anything about it.

It was just a shower in Fontaine; it would pass soon.

Thinking this, Yuto unhurriedly walked out of his office. He was about to return to his room when he suddenly heard a hurried footsteps.

And, of course, a muffled meow.

"Oh dear! Don't cry, I'll wipe you clean in a bit!"

A young girl whispered in the darkness.

Hearing this voice, Yuto frowned slightly, then looked towards the only staircase leading to the second floor, waiting for that little blue cake to walk up on her own.

Under the dim yellow light of the second-floor corridor, a blue figure gradually emerged from the shadows.

Seeing this, Yuto felt a mix of amusement and helplessness.

He knew Furina liked kittens and often went outside Palais Mermonia at night to feed them.

He was very aware of this.

But... was this part of the original storyline?

Yuto frowned slightly, seemingly puzzled by this sudden development, but ultimately chose to playfully tease his "God."

He could display a formal gentleness in front of everyone, but... when he stood before Furina, when she made cute requests of him...

That was when he truly felt like a living person.

"Perhaps this is the 'erosion' the Old Man spoke of..."

Yuto couldn't help but shake his head, then concealed himself in the shadows.

—He wanted to give Furina a small surprise.

However... he also wanted her to understand that Palais Mermonia was her home, and there was no need to hide like a thief.

As the footsteps grew closer, Yuto deliberately cleared his throat and asked, feigning ignorance, "Furina?"

Furina's body visibly trembled upon hearing the voice, then she mechanically turned her head to look at the shadows beside her, and with the help of the corridor light, she finally made out Yuto's slightly tall figure.

She gently turned around, holding a very cute Little Sanhua in her arms.

Yuto, seeing this, had an "I knew it" expression and sighed softly.

Furina, seeing Yuto sigh, became a little... anxious at this moment.

"I... I found this little one getting wet while I was feeding it outside. I was afraid it..."

Yuto gently shook his head, then carefully took the kitten from Furina's hands and gently stroked its little head.

"Meow~"

The kitten, which had been somewhat uneasy due to suddenly being in a new environment, instantly became quiet in Yuto's hands...

It was as if Yuto possessed a special aura that made others feel at ease.

Looking at the well-behaved and cute kitten, a smile appeared on Yuto's face, and he gently said to Furina, "Let's go, to the kitchen."

Furina nodded obediently, hopping behind Yuto, and soon arrived at the kitchen.

After placing the kitten on the ground, Yuto skillfully took off his heavy ceremonial attire, put on a white shirt, tied on an apron, and began to work.

A piece of fish and a carrot were quickly chopped into minced meat and diced carrots by Yuto, then roughly prepared and placed into a pot nearby to cook.

Furina watched Yuto's actions with some curiosity and couldn't help but ask:

"Doesn't a kitten... just eat fish? Why..."

"Because a kitten cannot only eat meat. A slight adjustment to the flavor and internal structure makes it their delicacy."

With that, Yuto looked at the kitten beside him and then said:

"So, what does our Water God plan to do with this kitten? Keep it in Palais Mermonia?"

Hearing this, Furina fell into thought.

From her perspective, she certainly wanted to keep this kitten.

But... who would take care of it? Is an environment like Palais Mermonia, with people coming and going, really suitable for it?

This was a kitten she brought back herself; should she ask Yuto, who already had many things to deal with, to raise it?

Neuvillette... he was also very busy.

But abandoning it outside would seem irresponsible...

Watching Furina struggling, Yuto smiled and shook his head, then picked up the kitten from the ground and gently stroked it in his arms.

"It's very well-behaved, at least for now."

"If you, Furina, don't have time to take care of this little one... then let it stay with me."

"Conveniently, my office needs a little mascot."

After saying this, Yuto gently touched the kitten's pink nose, and it seemed to understand what Yuto meant, letting out a symbolic meow.

"Meow."

"See, it agreed."

Upon hearing this, Furina blinked softly, a hint of surprise in her heterochromatic eyes, as if...

As if she was meeting Yuto for the first time.

"But now, I'll have to trouble Miss Furina to dry this little one, then bring it back so it can eat a bit and then rest."

Furina nodded gently at this, then carried the well-behaved kitten out of the kitchen.

Watching Furina's retreating figure, Yuto's lips unconsciously curved upwards.

"Salon Solitaire... Furina, even after you step down from the position of Water God, your life shouldn't only be about them."

"Although I don't know how all of this will unfold, at least... this can make things easier for you."
