Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

There was a problem early this morning. I was awakened by Carrie screaming from her bedroom. The sound cut through the silence of the house like a knife. Liam's eyes flew open, his heart racing, and without thinking he jumped out of bed. Still barefoot, he rushed out of his room and went straight to Carrie's, pushing the door open as soon as he reached it.

"Carrie, what happened?" Liam moved toward her, worried, quickly crossing the room to her bed, his brow furrowed and his breathing still uneven from the shock.

The moment she saw him, Carrie hugged him tightly, clutching his shirt as her body trembled, slowly beginning to calm down. She buried her face in his chest, as if searching for something solid to hold onto.

"A woman entered my mind and wanted to hurt me. At first I didn't realize it—she made me dream about my life before I escaped from her, like an endless loop. But after some unknown amount of time, I realized what was happening and managed to use my telekinesis to force my way out of that loop. That's when I saw her—a blue-eyed woman staring at me with hatred." Carrie explained, still recovering from what had happened, speaking quickly at first and then more slowly, as if reliving it weighed heavily on her chest.

Liam listened in silence, moving one hand slowly and steadily over her back, letting her continue without interrupting, his jaw clenched.

Seeing this, Carrie continued. "When I saw her, I used my telekinesis to attack her and managed to tear off one of her arms before she escaped. I could see her fear before she left." Carrie couldn't help forming a small smile at that—a brief, dark smile—pleased that she had made the one who trapped her in that infinite nightmare suffer.

"If you injured her that badly, she probably won't bother you again or try to come near us. They value their lives too much to risk facing you now, especially after knowing how you killed the last psychic vampire. They hate us, but they won't seek revenge if it means more of them dying." Liam reflected calmly as he spoke, remembering parts of the movie. In the film, they only pushed forward until the end because most of them were killed in an ambush; otherwise, they would have hidden or waited for a better opportunity.

"Oh well, that's good if she leaves me alone in my dreams. But if she comes back, I'll kill her. I won't fail if she tries again." Carrie felt relieved hearing this, her shoulders relaxing slightly, but she was also prepared if they tried again, lightly clenching her fists as if reaffirming her resolve.

"That endless loop of dreams about my life when I lived with my mom was horrible. After two years of living happily, I can see much more clearly how awful that life was. I never want to go back to that." Carrie said fearfully, her voice breaking, hugging him tighter as if afraid everything would return the moment she let go.

"Don't worry. You'll never go back to that life—not while I'm alive." Liam said, reassuring her, gently resting his chin on the top of her head for a moment.

"I want to sleep with you tonight. I'm scared." Carrie said, exaggerating her fear slightly, lifting her face to look at him with big, shining eyes, clearly hoping for a favorable answer.

Liam froze for a moment, unsure of what to say. His eyes widened slightly and his body tensed as he pulled back just enough to look at her. A moment later, he replied.

"No. We're not children anymore. You can't sleep with me like you did two years ago. We're growing up." Liam unconsciously crossing his arms like a barrier.

"I have another option. I'll stay here with you for a while until you calm down. Then, when I go back to my room, I'll activate telepathy so we can talk until you fall asleep again." Liam offered, his tone firm but gentle, trying not to sound distant.

Carrie's eyes showed disappointment at first, her eyebrows drooping and her lips pouting slightly, but when she heard about keeping telepathy active until she fell asleep, her eyes immediately lit up. "Yes! I want the telepathy active."

Hearing her enthusiasm, Liam couldn't help feeling like he'd been tricked, letting out a quiet sigh through his nose.

So, after returning to his room, Liam spoke with Carrie through telepathy until she fell asleep, feeling her mental presence grow weaker and weaker until it faded completely.

And so the days passed, with Liam and Carrie avoiding BlackSpot for now to prevent suspicion until the investigation into the disappearance of the four they killed was over.

They had no choice but to train Carrie's telekinesis at home for the time being. Even so, a few days later they were called in for interrogations, where the police failed to find any new evidence linking them to anything, though they did try to bother Carrie at times with uncomfortable questions and lingering stares.

In addition to that, Liam managed to thoroughly research Carrie's abilities and discovered that the power she used to weld the lock her mother used to imprison her wasn't a separate ability—it was also telekinesis, but at a molecular level, which Liam considered even more dangerous than pyrokinesis.

To weld that lock, Carrie had increased the vibration of the metal's molecules enough to generate the temperature needed to fuse it within seconds. And the ability that allowed her to sense the girl's pregnancy seemed to be something like vital perception—essentially, she could sense living beings around her.

They also watched how Raccoon City was ultimately destroyed and how the situation with Godzilla and the MUTOs ended, both leaving behind a massive number of casualties.

Liam also learned that every time he deactivated telepathy with Carrie, she would start pouting—slightly puffing out her cheeks and frowning—until he turned it back on. Liam found it cute and couldn't help deactivating it intentionally at times, but eventually he began keeping it active all the time.

Thanks to this, he made an involuntary discovery about telepathy: he couldn't keep it active forever. When he was close to his limit, his head would start to hurt and he had to deactivate it and rest. Still, over the days, he learned that little by little he could keep it active for longer periods.

A month passed, and once again they could go to BlackSpot to train seriously.

The place remained the same: abandoned, silent, surrounded by trees that blocked the view from any nearby road. The air smelled of old dust and rusted metal, and every sound seemed amplified in the stillness of the place. For Carrie,It no longer represented just a safe place, but also effort and growth.

Liam watched the surroundings carefully, arms crossed and expression serious, making sure no one had followed them before starting the training.

The telekinesis training was divided by Liam into sections.

Before starting, he took a few seconds to explain each part, gesturing around the space as if mentally organizing every exercise.

Endurance

Normally, he made Carrie keep a heavy stone floating until she couldn't anymore.

Carrie stood with her feet firmly planted on the ground, brow furrowed and arms slightly raised. The large, rough stone trembled in the air in front of her. As the minutes passed, her shoulders began to tense and her breathing grew uneven.

Sweat ran down her forehead and her hands shook, but she clenched her teeth and refused to lose concentration until the stone finally dropped to the ground with a dull thud. At that point, Carrie bent forward slightly, panting, while Liam nodded silently, evaluating her progress.

Power

Due to a lack of materials, Liam couldn't do progressive weight changes, so instead he had Carrie tear open the ground as much as possible in the shortest amount of time.

Carrie extended her hand toward the ground and closed her eyes for a moment. The earth began to creak before cracking apart, lifting dirt and small rocks. Sometimes she did it quickly but shallow; other times slower, but with surprising depth.

Each attempt left visible marks on the terrain and a sharp ache in Carrie's head, making her bring a hand to her temple as she caught her breath. Liam watched in silence, measuring time and depth with his gaze, committing every detail to memory.

Control

Here, Liam used exercises that required very little force but a great deal of concentration, such as writing, carving, drawing, and similar tasks.

Carrie sat on the ground, her tongue slightly sticking out from the corner of her mouth in concentration. Small stones floated in front of her as she tried to engrave letters, simple shapes, or clumsy drawings.

At the slightest mistake, the stone cracked or fell, forcing her to start over. Liam corrected her posture, told her to breathe more slowly, and not to force the power. It was frustrating, but Carrie could feel her control slowly improving.

Perception

In this section, Liam tried to make her sense new objects around her without seeing them, or learn to use her powers without relying on other senses—only the extra sense granted by her own telekinesis.

Carrie closed her eyes while Liam moved around her, placing objects at different points. Without using hearing or touch, she tried to "feel" their presence, like a strange pressure in her mind.

At first she failed often, turning her head in the wrong directions, but over time she began pointing with more confidence, opening her eyes only to confirm she was right. Each success earned her a small, proud smile.

In addition to this, Liam didn't abandon physical training and added reaction-speed training, which would be very useful for telekinesis. In this exercise, Liam threw objects at Carrie for her to dodge.

Liam tossed empty bottles, pieces of wood, or small stones without warning. Carrie reacted too late at first, startled and stumbling backward, but over the days she began dodging with cleaner movements, using short bursts of telekinesis to deflect them.

Liam also did this training himself, though more difficult: he had Carrie hurl a large number of objects at high speed using her telekinesis.

Carrie raised both hands, and the objects shot toward him one after another. Liam moved quickly, narrowly dodging some and deflecting others with precise movements. Each missed impact kicked up dust around him.

Though his face remained serious, the effort showed in his breathing and the tension in his body.

In addition to all this, Liam planned to gradually add more difficulty and new exercises, with the goal of being as prepared as possible for when they left the town and began hunting supernatural beings.

As he watched Carrie catch her breath, hands on her knees and chest rising and falling heavily, Liam knew that this training wasn't just about making her stronger.

It was about keeping her alive… and making sure that when the time came, neither of them would be helpless.
