Chapter 75: Huo Yuhao's Cheating Backfires—Severely Injured
"No! Senior Brother Beibei can't lose—not like this, not so miserably!"
Huo Yuhao clenched his fists, gritting his teeth.
His eyes flashed with determination, spiritual power surging violently as he sent a mental message toward Beibei.
On the stage, Beibei seemed to perceive the signal. Their eyes met for the briefest instant, and though they weren't particularly close, in that moment their coordination was flawless.
Beibei instantly understood Huo Yuhao's intent.
He gathered all remaining strength, his lightning spirit power crackling violently around his claws as he lunged for Ye Chen's head.
"Thunder Dragon Claw!"
The head—least protected spot on the human body.
Every previous blow had been casually deflected, but this time, Beibei was putting everything on the line.
Simultaneously, Huo Yuhao gambled everything too.
Twin flashes—one gold, one violet—flared across his eyes.
A formless wave of psychic energy exploded forth, stabbing directly into Ye Chen's mind.
It was Huo Yuhao's double-edged technique: Spiritual Impact paired with Purple Demon Eye—his strongest mental attack.
But the very moment his spiritual shock touched Ye Chen's consciousness, Huo Yuhao felt as though he'd collided headfirst with a mountain.
"W-what… how is this possible…?"
His face twisted in disbelief—and then in horror.
Spiritual Impact's entire strength came from surprise.
If the target had mental defenses prepared, the technique's effectiveness plummeted—sometimes even rebounding disastrously.
And the stronger the opponent's spiritual power, the more devastating that backlash became.
Huo Yuhao prided himself on his spiritual strength, easily rivaling most Soul Elders.
But he hadn't expected Ye Chen's mind to be this resilient—so much stronger than his own.
He tried to pull back—too late.
"AAAHHHHHHH!!!"
Agony exploded in his skull. A piercing wave of psychic pain ripped through his mind, forcing a shrill scream from his lips.
For the first time, Huo Yuhao experienced the horror of total spiritual collapse.
His face contorted grotesquely, tears and snot streaming uncontrollably down his trembling face.
The pain was unbearable—searing, endless torment.
Moments later, he blacked out on the spot.
"Yuhao! Yuhao, what's wrong?!"
Tang Ya's expression changed instantly when she saw him collapse, his face twisted in torment.
She rushed to his side, lifting him up, and immediately sprinted toward the infirmary.
...
The 1,000,000-year-old Skydream Iceworm spirit ring carried four major soul skills—two of which related directly to mental energy: Spiritual Impact and Spiritual Interference.
Spiritual Interference was area-based, weaker but safe to use.
Spiritual Impact, however, was a concentrated, single-target mental attack. Powerful, yes—but extremely dangerous when used against someone too strong.
That was exactly the trap Huo Yuhao had fallen into.
Ye Chen, as a Soul Ancestor, already possessed far superior mental strength.
Coupled with his system's mental stat enhancements, even though he hadn't trained as a psychic specialist, he easily outclassed level-16 Huo Yuhao.
And because he'd sensed the attack coming, his defenses had been fully active.
The outcome was simple: Huo Yuhao's attack did absolutely nothing.
To Ye Chen, it didn't even sting—it tickled.
...
Ye Chen, of course, had no time to deal with the fainted student in the audience.
Facing Beibei's desperate final lunge, he decided the fight had gone on long enough.
With a flicker of movement, he vanished from Beibei's line of sight.
He activated the Ghost Shadow Perplexing Step—his mastery far beyond ordinary limits.
For normal Tang Sect disciples, "Perfection" was the highest tier. But Ye Chen had broken beyond that—into the Transcendence Realm, known as "State of Unity."
Within three meters, his footwork speed rivaled teleportation—giving Beibei no chance to react.
"W-What?! That's the Ghost Shadow Step—how can it be that fast?!"
Beibei froze, pupils shrinking to pinpoints. His thoughts raced wildly.
He'd practiced that same movement art for years—barely reaching "Proficiency."
Yet Ye Chen, after a few short days, had surpassed him completely—achieving a mastery level that defied comprehension.
"End of the match."
Ye Chen's calm whisper sounded behind him.
Then—one simple kick.
BANG—
A crushing impact exploded against Beibei's lower back.
His body twisted unnaturally as the force sent him flying through the air, tumbling multiple times before shooting off the stage like a broken kite.
"Arghhh—!"
Beibei screamed, agony ripping through his spine. The pain blurred his vision—almost enough to knock him unconscious.
Fortunately, the referee reacted swiftly. Just before Beibei crashed to the ground, he leaped forward, catching him midair and cushioning the landing.
"Match over! Winner—Ye Chen!"
At the referee's declaration, the arena erupted into chaos.
Healers rushed in immediately, surrounding Beibei and carrying him away.
...
The crowd, however, was speechless at first—the silence deafening.
Sure, most had expected Ye Chen to win.
But no one had imagined such an overwhelming, one-sided massacre.
The Outer Court's strongest assault-type spirit user—Beibei of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon—hadn't even managed to break Ye Chen's defense!
Was this even a fair fight anymore?
"This guy's a freshman? Are you kidding me?!"
"Since when are ice-type spirit users this overpowering?! The pressure from his Dragon presence—I could feel it all the way from here. My martial soul was trembling!"
"Damn it! Beibei was pathetic! I thought at least they'd be close—but this? He didn't even last long enough to hit back properly! What trash!"
Many had placed bets expecting an even match—hoping to profit off a classic Shrek-style "underdog reversal."
But most gamblers had now lost everything.
"This isn't freshmen power… this is easily top-tier Outer Court strength," muttered a sixth-year student blankly.
Every sixth-year was a Soul Ancestor, yet none could dominate like this.
Most of them couldn't even withstand Beibei head-on—but Ye Chen had toyed with him.
He'd only used one defensive soul skill.
No offensive skill. No serious effort.
If he had activated his terrifying ten-thousand-year fourth ring, the fight would have ended before it began.
"He was being merciful. Let Beibei attack first, just to 'save face.' But Beibei couldn't even land a hit. What a humiliation…" one student murmured.
Whispers rippled through the audience, a mix of awe, disbelief, and newfound fear.
They'd all heard the rumors calling Ye Chen the "Newcomer King."
Now they finally understood the truth behind the title.
This wasn't just "Newcomer King."
He was already the Strongest of the Outer Court.
"Alright, that's enough. The match is over—everyone disperse," the referee announced, trying to calm the clamor.
But before he could finish, Ye Chen spoke up.
"Wait, Teacher," he said lightly. "I still have one more match."
"Oh? Another one?" The referee blinked in surprise.
Ye Chen smiled. "I still have a scheduled duel—with Senior Xu Sanshi of the fifth year. I trust Senior won't run away now, will he?"
He turned toward the stands, his eyes finding Xu Sanshi among the crowd.
His lips curved upward in a teasing smirk filled with mockery.
