Chapter 65: Huo Yuhao Ranks Behind the Dog
Right after Ye Chen left, Wang Dong got up.
After all, she had promised him yesterday that she would take care of the chores—cleaning the dorm, making Ye Chen's bed, and even washing his clothes…
She glanced at the clothes Ye Chen had changed out of the night before and pouted softly. "Such a lazy guy," she muttered.
Still, despite her grumbling, she dutifully began tidying the room.
...
Across the hall.
Huo Yuhao had just finished a night of cultivation.
He rarely slept at night, preferring to meditate instead. It allowed his body to rest while training his mind—though it demanded immense willpower and was mentally exhausting.
Fortunately, his spiritual power was strong, and his determination even stronger.
To become powerful, he was willing to sacrifice everything. Sleep was just a waste of time.
"It's getting late. I wonder if that lazy Wang Dong is up yet…"
He stretched, washing up quickly before deciding to go wake her.
He'd always done this before—Wang Dong's personal morning call service.
Now that she was sharing a room with Ye Chen, Huo Yuhao figured the guy wouldn't bother doing that, and she'd probably end up oversleeping.
Huo Yuhao stepped out, walking toward dorm 112 across the hall.
To his surprise, the dorm door was slightly open, and inside he could hear rustling noises.
He raised a brow, puzzled.
Since when did Wang Dong wake up so early?
Curious, he peeked inside—and froze completely.
His jaw dropped, his face full of disbelief.
There was Wang Dong… cleaning the room!
"Wang Dong, what are you doing?"
Huo Yuhao rubbed his eyes, convinced he must've seen wrong.
He knew Wang Dong better than anyone—spoiled, picky, and proud.
Forget cleaning—she wouldn't even bend down to pick up something off the floor.
For half a month living together, he had done all the cleaning while Wang Dong lazed around without lifting a finger.
But now? In Ye Chen's dorm, Wang Dong was sweeping the floor, wiping the windows, making Ye Chen's bed…
He had never seen Ye Chen clean a thing.
This was beyond bizarre.
Something about that sight suddenly made Huo Yuhao feel uncomfortably… out of balance.
When Wang Dong lived with him, he cleaned.
When Wang Dong lived with Ye Chen, she cleaned.
So why did it feel like he was at the bottom of the food chain!?
"I'm cleaning. Can't you see that? Are you stupid or something, Huo Yuhao?"
Wang Dong shot him a sideways glance, her tone dripping with irritation, as if scolding an idiot.
She turned back to continue dusting and folding sheets neatly. Finally, she gathered Ye Chen's uniform together with her own, planning to wash them later that afternoon.
Though she worked earnestly, her movements were awkward—clear evidence that she wasn't used to cleaning—and her expression showed faint reluctance.
"Wang Dong, why are you suddenly cleaning? Did Ye Chen force you to do it?"
Huo Yuhao's instincts flared. He could sense her discomfort and immediately grew concerned.
The more he thought about it, the more it made sense!
Wang Dong had been perfectly fine living with him. Why move in with Ye Chen out of nowhere?
There was only one possible explanation—Ye Chen must've forced her!
How else could this be explained? Wang Dong, the laziest person alive, scrubbing floors and washing clothes? Impossible!
Given her temper, she'd rather die than do chores willingly.
And now she looked reluctant, even a little hurt.
That had to be it—Ye Chen was blackmailing her—using something to threaten her!
Yes, that had to be the truth.
Huo Yuhao clenched his fists, anger flashing across his face.
Ye Chen, that despicable bastard! Taking advantage of kind, innocent Wang Dong? Too vile!
Wang Dong was his good friend—he couldn't just stand by!
"No, I did it myself. Stop bothering me; I'm busy," Wang Dong said impatiently, rolling her eyes.
She was already frustrated having to tidy up Ye Chen's dorm and now this idiot had shown up to pester her.
She really wanted to punch Huo Yuhao's face flat.
Nothing annoyed her more than someone buzzing in her ear with useless chatter.
...
Although Huo Yuhao was smart, his lack of social experience made him hopeless at reading people.
And his habit of overthinking didn't help—it was another one of his "protagonist" flaws.
So, instead of backing off, he grew even more convinced that Wang Dong was suffering in silence.
"Wang Dong, don't be afraid. If you're in trouble, we can go find Teacher Zhou Yi together. She'll help us!
Even if Ye Chen has something on you, he wouldn't dare harm you here at Shrek Academy.
It's better if you move back with me—I'll handle all the chores. You can just focus on training. That way, Ye Chen won't be able to bully you anymore!"
He kept rambling on and on beside her.
Wang Dong, already in a bad mood, could barely take it anymore. His chatter was like sandpaper on her patience.
Finally, she snapped.
"Huo Yuhao, are you sick or something?! You're so damn noisy! Even if Ye Chen was threatening me, that's my business! Mind your own damn life!!"
She locked the dorm door with a loud click and stormed off, slamming it behind her.
Her whole body trembled with fury.
That idiot could really drive a person insane.
Even if Ye Chen was a bit pushy, it was still her choice.
Sure, he could be bad sometimes—but compared to Huo Yuhao, Ye Chen was a thousand times better!
In strength, looks, talent, background—Ye Chen crushed Huo Yuhao in every aspect.
Of course she preferred Ye Chen.
And Huo Yuhao? Aside from a bit of luck, a bit of grit, and a whole lot of awkwardness, he had nothing.
"Wang Dong… I…"
Huo Yuhao stood there, speechless, stunned by the outburst.
He didn't understand what had happened—why was Wang Dong acting so differently today?
He didn't understand why someone who used to laugh with him was suddenly furious.
He didn't understand why being genuinely concerned for her made her so angry.
Why?
He felt baffled—and strangely hurt deep inside.
As though he'd just lost something precious without realizing it.
His instincts told him to chase after her, to apologize and patch things up.
But logic stopped him.
Why should he apologize?
He hadn't done anything wrong!
He was just trying to help her—if anyone was wrong, it was Wang Dong for yelling at him! Why should he say sorry!?
Huo Yuhao sat in confusion, unable to make sense of any of it.
...
It was like the world Ye Chen had come from, too—most young, attractive women were rarely drawn to "nice, quiet guys."
Only older women seeking stability ever chose the dependable "good men."
Girls were emotional creatures—especially the young ones who hadn't yet seen the world.
For them, flashy words and burning energy from a charming rogue were as irresistible as luxury cars and glittering status.
When they grew older and tasted the reality of society, material comfort began to matter more. Some would abandon their youthful "wildfire" for the success of a middle-aged man with a beer belly.
And when youth and beauty finally faded, only then would they turn back, looking for the "honest man" they once ignored—hoping he'd still be waiting.
The saying was true—warm, nice guys rank even lower than dogs.
