Chapter 44: Ye Chen — Bei Bei, Then Leave the Tang Sect

Huo Yuhao stiffened, his chest tight with pent-up frustration that he couldn't release, his face slowly turning red.

At that moment, Ye Chen had already reached Huo Yuhao's grilled fish stall.

He didn't even glance at Huo Yuhao and instead sat directly beside Tang Ya, smiling warmly. "Sister Xiao Ya, are you free tonight? Let's have dinner together~"

Tang Ya agreed instantly without even thinking about it.

Grilled fish might be tasty, but it wasn't filling, and she had to meditate later. A good dinner would definitely help.

Besides, she ate with Bei Bei almost every day—skipping one or two wouldn't matter.

Bei Bei wouldn't mind.

"Xiao Ya! You can't have dinner with him!"

An angry voice suddenly roared from the corner. It was Bei Bei!

He strode toward Ye Chen, his face twisted with fury he could barely contain.

It was clear he'd been waiting there for a while.

And indeed, he had.

Bei Bei had planned to keep watch on Ye Chen—and now, he had caught this scene.

Tang Ya was supposed to have dinner with him tonight.

And Ye Chen had the nerve to swoop in out of nowhere and steal his date?

Unacceptable!

Tang Ya was his girlfriend! What right did Ye Chen have to dine with her!?

This was an outrage!

"Bei Bei, what's wrong with you? Ye Chen is the vice master of the Tang Sect—can you at least show some respect?!" Tang Ya snapped coldly.

She wasn't the least bit guilty—in fact, she was irritated.

After all, she and Ye Chen weren't doing anything inappropriate—it was just dinner.

As the Tang Sect's leader, discussing matters with her vice master was perfectly proper.

But Bei Bei's attitude toward Ye Chen was childish and petty, making her even more displeased.

He was supposed to be the senior, and yet he was behaving like a jealous kid bullying a junior!

"What?! Vice master of the Tang Sect? Since when?! Why didn't you tell me about something that important!?" Bei Bei's reaction made even Huo Yuhao flinch.

Tang Ya had never mentioned this to him before.

He had followed her, supported her, and yet remained only the "senior disciple."

And now, out of nowhere, this newcomer Ye Chen had been made vice master—leapfrogging over him entirely.

How could he possibly swallow that!?

"What's there to discuss? Ye Chen is strong and talented. Without giving him some status, why would he join us?"

Tang Ya gave him a baffled look, unable to understand his outrage.

"Do you really think the Tang Sect, poor as it is, could attract him otherwise?"

Her disappointment was starting to show.

Bei Bei claimed to care about restoring the Tang Sect's glory, but he wasn't helping at all.

It had taken all her persuasion to bring Ye Chen in, and now Bei Bei dared to cause trouble?

Unbelievable.

"But Xiao Ya… he—he…"

Bei Bei's face flushed red. His mouth opened and closed uselessly—no words came out.

"That's enough—you two stop it."

Ye Chen finally stepped in, smiling calmly.

He looked at Bei Bei. "If you have a problem with me, then... you can leave the Tang Sect."

"Hmph, so you do know your place—wait, what?!"

Bei Bei almost choked. A beat later, he exploded.

"What the hell do you mean I should leave!? Why isn't he leaving!?"

He could barely think straight anymore.

He had expected Ye Chen to back down—to maybe even apologize.

Instead, this shameless boy was telling him to resign?

Unheard of!

"I'm the vice master of the Tang Sect—and a Soul King. You're just an ordinary member with a lower rank and only Soul Elder cultivation. Obviously, you're the one to step aside. Isn't that common sense?"

Ye Chen's gaze turned coldly amused, as if looking at someone slow-witted.

He hadn't even needed to find an excuse—Bei Bei had practically walked into it.

After all, he'd been thinking of removing male members from the Tang Sect anyway. Difference in gender, after all—Bei Bei being around was... inconvenient.

"I—"

Bei Bei's mouth opened and shut again, completely silenced.

Unable to out-argue Ye Chen, he turned desperately to Tang Ya instead.

"Xiao Ya, he's trying to kick me out—it's clear he has ulterior motives! I'm telling you, this guy's up to no good!"

"Enough, Bei Bei. You're a senior, can't you act a little more mature?"

Tang Ya rolled her eyes, utterly exasperated.

This scene looked less like a conflict and more like a parent scolding a child for throwing a tantrum.

For someone of Bei Bei's standing, arguing with a junior like this over a trivial issue was pathetic—and embarrassing for the Tang Sect's reputation.

Ye Chen, on the other hand...

Oddly, she found his words reasonable.

If there was conflict between them, only one could stay for the sake of harmony.

Ye Chen was powerful—an invaluable asset to the Tang Sect. He had to remain.

Which meant Bei Bei had to step away, at least temporarily.

"Xiao Ya—"

Bei Bei tried again, but Tang Ya cut him off sharply.

"Enough. You need to calm down. We'll handle it Ye Chen's way—you'll temporarily withdraw from the Tang Sect. After three months, depending on your performance, we'll see if you can rejoin. As for the manuals you've learned, I won't take them back."

Her tone was firm but thoughtful.

She wasn't entirely choosing Ye Chen over Bei Bei—she had her own plan.

Ye Chen had promised to help her avenge her sect within three months.

Once that was done, she could reconsider Bei Bei's return, maybe even mediate between them.

Her feelings for Bei Bei hadn't vanished completely.

Of course, Bei Bei didn't know any of this.

"Xiao Ya... You—you're making me leave?" he stammered, disbelief twisting his face.

His heart shattered halfway through the words.

He had thought she would support him—only to see her take Ye Chen's side without hesitation.

At this rate, people might even think Ye Chen was the boyfriend and he the outsider.

Unbearable.

"Yes. You're the senior here—it's only natural you show a little generosity to your junior."

Tang Ya's tone was calm but resolute.

Everything she did was for the Tang Sect's growth.

After years under her and Bei Bei's stewardship, the sect had only managed to attract Huo Yuhao—and that was mostly thanks to free grilled fish.

The problem, she concluded, was leadership.

She was little more than a mascot, and Bei Bei, for all his pride and family background, refused to use his clan's resources. He had brought nothing to the table.

But with Ye Chen, things could finally change. His talent and charisma were unmatched—exactly what the Tang Sect needed.

With the right trust and authority, he might just lead the sect to true resurgence.

For that, she decided, even if it meant offending Bei Bei momentarily—it was worth it.

She only hoped he would someday understand her intentions.
