Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Three Days Later

Chapter 69: Three Days Later

After an entire day and night, Xiao Yan stretched lazily, a satisfied smile on his face as he relished the abundant Dou Qi coursing through his body.

The night of dual cultivation had not only eased his tensions but also propelled his cultivation from mid six star Dou Huang to early seven star Dou Huang.

While the breakthrough wasn't as explosive as refining a Heavenly Flame, the speed was still terrifyingly fast. Of course, this was thanks to Yao Ling's unique constitution and the presence of the Yin Yang Saint Flame's sub flame in her body.

The Saintess truly lived up to her title.

Just as Xiao Yan's grin widened, a sudden surge of powerful soul energy shot toward him from the side.

His expression changed slightly, and he quickly mobilized his own soul energy to defend.

"Clang!" The invisible collision of soul forces created ripples in the air, leaving a deep scar on the altar's surface.

"Are you trying to murder your husband?" Xiao Yan turned to see the icy expression of Yao Ling, who was now fully composed.

Gone was the warmth and passion from the night before. Draped in an elegant azure robe, her disheveled hair added to her cold allure. Her clear eyes glared at Xiao Yan with chilling intensity.

"If I don't kill you today, I'll never be able to rid myself of this anger!" she sneered, summoning her soul power for another attack.

Xiao Yan's soul energy had grown considerably, and while it hadn't reached the level of a high level seventh tier alchemist, the benefits of dual cultivation with Yao Ling's Imperial Soul Constitution were far reaching.

"If it weren't for me, you'd still be trapped here by the Evil Saint," Xiao Yan countered, his tone righteous.

"You're no better than him! Once I kill you, I'll return to my clan and have the elders obliterate that Evil Saint's remaining soul!" Yao Ling's cold laughter sent shivers down his spine as she unleashed another devastating soul attack.

Meanwhile, at the altar in the shadowy side of the ruins, the Evil Saint, busy suppressing his corpse, sneezed.

"If you keep this up, I'll get mad," Xiao Yan muttered after deflecting her attack.

His patience wearing thin, he smirked and said, "Fine, let's see how you handle my family's discipline!"

He raised his right hand, and a black and white flame ignited in his palm.

Even as Yao Ling prepared to retaliate, her face flushed with unexpected warmth.

She felt the peculiar flame from the previous night reignite within her.

"You despicable scoundrel!" Yao Ling's voice trembled with anger and humiliation as the fire surged.

"Didn't I warn you? Keep this up, and I'll get really angry," Xiao Yan said, feigning innocence, though the flame in his hand continued to burn.

"Put it out, now!" Yao Ling demanded, her cheeks growing redder, though her eyes remained as icy as ever.

Ignoring her protests, Xiao Yan stepped closer, the flame still flickering in his hand.

"Go ahead. Kill me if you dare," he challenged, opening his arms and lowering his defenses entirely.

Yao Ling hesitated, her gaze faltering.

Despite his shameless behavior, Xiao Yan was still the Xiao Clan's Holy Son. Killing him would provoke a massive conflict between their clans, something the Yao Clan could ill afford.

Even worse, Xiao Yan had two Half Saint guardians. His identity was clearly extraordinary possibly surpassing even other Holy Sons of his clan.

If she truly killed him, the Xiao Clan's fury could bring catastrophic consequences.

As she wavered, she felt Xiao Yan's warm hand grasp hers.

His charming yet mischievous face drew closer, and his deep, dark eyes seemed to pierce through her defenses.

"Sister Yao Ling," he said, his voice unusually soft.

"The moment I first saw you, I was captivated by your beauty. From that instant, I knew I had to make you mine."

"I admit, I'm shameless, lustful, and despicable. I'm not like those hypocrites who hide their desires behind false righteousness. If I want a woman, I'll do whatever it takes to have her."

"I know you don't like me now, but one day, you will. When I become a Dou Sheng, I'll come to the Yao Clan atop a seven colored cloud and declare to the world that you're my woman."

His tone carried a mix of roguishness and authority that left Yao Ling speechless.

Even someone as composed as Yao Ling was stunned by his audacity.

Before she could respond, she felt a sudden warmth on her lips.

"Stop this!" she protested weakly, her resistance more like a half hearted plea.

Yao Ling turned her face away, refusing to meet Xiao Yan's gaze.

"You're on the verge of breaking through to Dou Zong, aren't you?" Xiao Yan whispered, his face close to hers.

Yao Ling nodded faintly, still refusing to look at him.

"Then let me help you cross that threshold," Xiao Yan said, wrapping an arm around her slender waist.

Three Days Later

Outside the ancient ruins, the two Half Saint guardians, Xiao Wen and Xiao Wu, waited anxiously. Beside them, the two elderly Yao Clan women were even more restless.

Not far from them, a massive barrier of red and blue energy shimmered, containing a thick, ominous black mist within.

"Why hasn't the Holy Son emerged yet?" Xiao Wu muttered, his body faintly glowing with a fiery red aura, betraying his impatience.

"Refining a Heavenly Flame takes time," Xiao Wen replied, though his furrowed brow betrayed his concern.

Suddenly, a ripple in the fabric of space emanated from the ancient city. A circular silver portal appeared, drawing the attention of everyone present.

Both Half Saints and the two Yao Clan elders straightened, their expressions tense as they stared at the portal.

Moments later, two figures emerged a young man and a young woman.

The youth's handsome face bore a mischievous smile, while the young woman's icy beauty was tinged with an inexplicable radiance, like a snow lotus blooming atop a mountain.

Seeing them appear unharmed, the four elders collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
