Chapter 59 - Chapter 59: Soul Blood Spear

Chapter 59: Soul Blood Spear

At this moment, Yao Ling's gaze alternated between the Yin Yang Twin Flame and Xiao Yan. Though her focus lingered on the strange fire, her wariness toward Xiao Yan had grown after witnessing how he easily dealt with several Dou Huang experts.

The external threats had been eliminated, but now, an internal conflict loomed. There was only one Yin Yang Twin Flame who would claim it?

"Why are you staring at me, Cousin? Could it be that my charm has conquered you?" Xiao Yan teased with a sly grin.

"Shameless!" Yao Ling retorted coldly, but her cheeks reddened slightly. The eerie energy of the ruins amplified her reaction, making her even more sensitive to Xiao Yan's muscular frame beneath his black robes.

"You're beautiful," Xiao Yan said earnestly.

Yao Ling ignored his remark and turned her attention to the altar. "Let's focus on breaking the seal first," she said.

The ancient altar was divided into yin and yang halves, with a black and white fish swimming lazily at its center. Strangely, the black fish was engulfed in white flames, while the white fish burned with black flames. Surrounding the altar was a thin, invisible membrane that repelled anything that tried to pass through.

"According to the information, this membrane can only be affected by soul power. Physical attacks and Dou Qi are useless," Yao Ling explained.

Xiao Yan tested her words by unleashing a punch powerful enough to rival a Dou Zong's full strength attack. The membrane didn't budge. However, when he sent a burst of soul power against it, faint ripples appeared.

"My guess is this membrane's defensive power is equivalent to that of a high level seventh tier alchemist. If the two of us combine our soul techniques, we should be able to tear it apart," Xiao Yan said while glancing around cautiously.

"What are you looking for?" Yao Ling asked with a frown.

Xiao Yan replied, "If we break this seal, the Yin Yang Twin Flame's aura will attract more strong individuals especially alchemists. We should send a warning first."

He began collecting the corpses of the Dou Huang experts he had defeated. Using raw physical strength, he hoisted the bodies and hung them from a nearby withered tree.

The gruesome display was chilling. The mutilated corpses swayed like grotesque wind chimes in the breeze, some disfigured beyond recognition.

Seeing this, Yao Ling's impression of Xiao Yan's ruthlessness deepened.

"You're not planning to hang me on that tree after this, are you?" she asked warily.

"Of course not," Xiao Yan replied with a laugh. "You're far too lovely for that. I'd rather cherish you than harm you."

"You'd better mean that," Yao Ling muttered, taking a deep breath. Then, after a pause, she asked, "When we break the seal, who should take the Yin Yang Twin Flame?"

Xiao Yan considered her question seriously before answering. "If the Yin Yang Evil Saint left it here, it's likely meant for a specific inheritor. Look at the strength of this barrier normally, it would require five to ten seventh tier alchemists to break it. But the flame can only belong to one person in the end.

"Once we break the seal, the Evil Saint will probably choose his successor. When that happens, it's up to fate. If the flame isn't meant for me, I'll let it go."

His words were genuine. While Xiao Yan desired the Yin Yang Twin Flame, he knew the Evil Saint's inheritance would likely come with trials and protections. The Saint would likely eject everyone else from the inheritance area to ensure his chosen successor's safety. Xiao Yan had no guarantees of being chosen.

Even his status as a Xiao Clan heir meant little to a Dou Saint who had been dead for a millennium.

Hearing this, Yao Ling nodded. "That sounds reasonable. Let's begin, then."

"Alright," Xiao Yan agreed.

Xiao Yan unleashed an overwhelming surge of soul power, startling Yao Ling.

"Seventh tier mid level soul strength…" she murmured in astonishment.

Soul cultivation was notoriously difficult, even for someone like her with ancient techniques and the Medicine Clan's resources. She had only reached the seventh tier at the age of fifteen. Yet here was Xiao Yan, not only her peer but already surpassing her.

"I'll need to push for eighth tier soon," Yao Ling thought grimly.

"Let's move," Xiao Yan said, ignoring her reaction.

He concentrated his soul power, shaping it into sharp, spinning blades that merged into a drill like form.

"Soul Piercing Drill!" he shouted. The spinning soul energy struck the invisible membrane with tremendous force, creating ripples that reverberated outward.

If this attack had landed on the sinister youth earlier, it would have severely injured him in an instant.

The Medicine Clan wasn't the only one with advanced soul techniques. The Xiao Clan had inherited countless soul related methods, some derived from the legendary Soul Clan itself.

As the spinning soul drill bore into the barrier, the ripples grew more pronounced, threatening to break it apart.

"It's not enough!" Xiao Yan gritted his teeth, his face slightly flushed from exertion. He glanced at Yao Ling. "Are you just going to stand there? Help me!"

"I'm on it," Yao Ling replied, snapping out of her thoughts.

Her own soul power surged forward, forming into a long spear. The spear radiated a crimson light as it slammed into the barrier.

Boom!

The combined force of their attacks sent violent shockwaves through the membrane. It trembled visibly, on the brink of collapse, yet stubbornly held firm.

"Still not enough!" Xiao Yan cursed.

Yao Ling hesitated, then made a decision. She bit down hard on her finger, letting blood drip from the wound.

As the droplets fell onto her soul spear, it transformed. The once transparent weapon turned a deep, blood red hue, radiating a sinister and terrifying energy.

"Soul Blood Spear, go!" she commanded, her voice cold and resolute.

The crimson spear, infused with her blood, shot toward the membrane with devastating force. Even Xiao Yan, standing beside her, felt a chill at the weapon's potency.

The blood red spear crashed into the already weakened barrier, shaking it violently.
