Chapter 52: People from the Medicine Clan

Good times are always fleeting. After bidding farewell to the two girls, Xiao Yan officially set off on his journey.

The Fertile Plains lay in the western part of the Central Plains, renowned for its abundant resources. Although rare heavenly treasures were seldom found there, its high grain yield and livestock farming sustained a large population in the region.

Black Wind City was built against Black Wind Cliff, established a thousand years ago by the Black Wind Venerable. The city later became the stronghold of the Black Wind Sect. Though the Black Wind Venerable had long passed, the sect still housed nearly ten Dou Zong experts, making it a second tier force in the Central Plains and a near dominant power in the Fertile Plains.

Recently, however, Black Wind City had grown unusually bustling. The reason? The appearance of the Dou Saint ruins.

Though these ancient ruins were filled with danger, the mere prospect of obtaining even a fragment of a Dou Saint's legacy was enough to entice countless experts. Thanks to early discoveries by the first wave of explorers, the city had seen an influx of Dou Huang experts and even a number of sixth tier alchemists.

Some of these alchemists had acquired recipes left behind by the Yin Yang Evil Saint, others found thousand year old heavenly treasures, and a few had even obtained seventh tier pills. The flourishing market created by these treasures had made Black Wind City a hotspot for trade. Even figures so powerful that the Black Wind Sect didn't dare interfere were now seen in the city.

With the arrival of these experts, another industry in Black Wind City had also boomed. Many of the explorers who entered the Dou Saint ruins needed a way to release their pent up energy after emerging. The strange curse within the ruins left many on the brink of madness if they couldn't find an outlet.

In the Black Wind Sect's grand hall, a group of Dou Zong elders exchanged worried looks.

"Sect Leader," one elder said, "the number of experts entering Black Wind City these days is growing out of control. It's one thing for the sixth tier alchemists, but now they're bringing their masters centuries old monsters, some of whom are Dou Zun experts. If they start fighting in the city, our thousand year foundation might be destroyed."

The Black Wind Sect Leader, sitting at the head of the hall, sighed bitterly. "If they've come, we can only do our best to host them. If we serve them well, it could enhance the reputation of our sect."

In the past, his seven star Dou Zong cultivation made him an unrivaled existence in the Fertile Plains. But now, he was left fearing the collateral damage of these experts.

As he pondered, the Sect Leader and the elders' expressions suddenly changed. They flew out of the hall, their eyes fixed on a rupture in the sky.

From the broken space emerged a handsome young man dressed in black, accompanied by two elderly figures.

Gulp. The Sect Leader swallowed nervously.

The ease with which these elders had torn through space made their cultivation obvious: they were undoubtedly Dou Zun experts.

While the presence of two Dou Zun experts was rare, it wasn't enough to shock him too much several Dou Zun experts had already arrived in Black Wind City over the past few days.

What left him stunned, however, was that these two Dou Zuns were standing behind the young man, their demeanor that of bodyguards. Such an entourage was beyond his imagination, leaving him unable to fathom the young man's background.

One thing was clear these three were not people he could afford to offend.

The Sect Leader suppressed his shock, stepped into the air, and approached the trio with a polite smile.

"Esteemed seniors, you must not be from the western Central Plains." He hesitated for a moment before addressing even the young man as a senior.

To his surprise, the young man smiled. "You must be the Sect Leader of the Black Wind Sect."

The Sect Leader blinked, then nodded.

"Heh." Xiao Yan glanced at the Sect Leader, producing a small jade bottle in his hand seemingly out of nowhere.

"I assume you already know why we're here. Apologies for the intrusion. Please accept this small gift."

With that, he tossed the jade bottle to the Sect Leader.

The Sect Leader caught it, his heart skipping a beat. For Xiao Yan to offer a gift right off the bat, his purpose was obvious.

"You must be here for the Dou Saint ruins," the Sect Leader said with a smile. "The ruins are located just outside Black Wind City. They open twice a day at noon, when the Yang Side is accessible, and at night, when the Yin Side becomes available."

"The Yin Side is far too dangerous, and I'm sure the young master has no interest in going there. In that case, you'll have to wait until noon tomorrow. In the meantime, our Black Wind Sect has a guest pavilion in the city. If it pleases you, you can stay there."

"Then we'll trouble the Sect Leader," Xiao Yan replied with a slight smile.

"No trouble at all. Hosting the three of you is an honor for the Black Wind Sect," the Sect Leader said as he led them toward the guest pavilion.

On the way, several powerful soul probes swept toward Xiao Yan and his companions. However, a mere cold snort from one of Xiao Yan's elders caused the probing forces to vanish like frightened mice.

After settling Xiao Yan and his party, the Sect Leader politely excused himself. Only after returning to the sect did he exhale heavily, sweat dampening his back.

The elder's single snort had scared off multiple Dou Zun level experts, showing that his strength far surpassed ordinary Dou Zun cultivators. Yet such a terrifying figure willingly served as the bodyguard of a young man.

"Could his grandfather be a Dou Saint?" the Sect Leader murmured, opening the jade bottle Xiao Yan had given him. The rich aroma of the pill inside made his eyes widen.

"An Emperor Pill?"

Although not an earth shattering treasure, the Emperor Pill was still a highly valuable item. Yet Xiao Yan had given it away so casually.

"Extravagant. Truly extravagant," the Sect Leader muttered with a wry smile. Compared to Xiao Yan, he felt like a countryside bumpkin.

As he mulled over the encounter, the sky above Black Wind City shattered again, revealing another trio two elderly figures and a cold, elegant young woman.

"What is happening today?" The Sect Leader grimaced as he observed the newcomers.

The girl, appearing eighteen or nineteen years old, had a tall, slender figure and wore a luxurious alchemist's robe. Her icy beauty was enhanced by her noble demeanor, and the ancient cauldron embroidered with seven golden stars on her robe marked her as a seventh tier alchemist.

In the Black Wind Sect's guest pavilion, Xiao Yan, having just brewed a pot of tea, frowned as he looked skyward.

"Young Master, those are people from the Medicine Clan," Xiao Wen said quietly, gazing at the three figures in the sky.
