Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Learning a "Foreign Language"

Chapter 28: Learning a "Foreign Language"

"I lost..." Cao Ying stared blankly at the receding figure of the white robed youth disappearing from her sight. At that moment, his departing silhouette etched itself deeply into her heart.

"This boy's talent... it's monstrous!" Dan Yangzi and the Cao family elder finally understood why this young man, barely fifteen, had been appointed as the Young Master of the Starfall Pavilion by Yao Chen.

At just fifteen, he was already a two star Dou Huang, and his soul power easily suppressed Cao Ying. Such a prodigy was rare, even among the Saint Sons of the ancient clans.

With such potential, Xiao Yan's chances of becoming a Dou Sheng in the future were exceedingly high.

"Yao Chen, that sly old fox, has really picked a gem of a disciple!" Dan Yangzi muttered with a bitter smile.

Beside him, the pale faced Dan Chen gaped in astonishment. As a core disciple of the Pill Tower, she was well aware of Cao Ying's prowess. Among her peers, Cao Ying had always been invincible.

But today, not only had Cao Ying lost, but she had also been utterly crushed. This ignited a faint curiosity in the usually introverted Dan Chen.

"Who is this guy really?" Dan Chen tilted her head in wonder.

In a dimly lit room, Yao Chen reclined on a large bed, his robe disheveled and chest half exposed. Scattered around were the remnants of male and female garments.

Next to him lay Xuan Yi in a sultry nightgown. Though advanced in years, she maintained the beauty of a thirty something, her face glowing with satisfaction as she rested against Yao Chen's chest.

The room bore evidence of their intense... "study" session on alchemy. For two hours, they had explored their craft in the bedroom, the chair, the sofa, and even the alchemy room!

"Old man, you've always been such a hypocrite. I used to think you were a gentleman." Xuan Yi traced circles on Yao Chen's chest with her finger.

Yao Chen said nothing, basking in the afterglow. If he had a cigarette, it would've completed the moment.

"Are you ignoring me?" Xuan Yi frowned.

"Shhh..." Yao Chen raised a finger. "This is a moment of clarity. Perhaps I might gain an epiphany to ascend further in my craft."

"Then go gain your epiphany somewhere else. You're ruining my mood!" Xuan Yi kicked him playfully.

"Hehe, since we rarely meet, we should take this opportunity to thoroughly... exchange alchemy techniques," Yao Chen chuckled, his eyes gleaming.

"Hypocrite," Xuan Yi muttered, rolling her eyes, though she nestled closer.

Suddenly, the faint buzzing of a communication jade interrupted them. Yao Chen frowned but reluctantly picked it up.

"Old man, where are you? Hurry up and come out. Your beloved disciple wants to practice alchemy," Xiao Yan's voice echoed through the jade.

"I'm busy right now. Can't it wait?" Yao Chen replied tersely.

Moments later, the jade buzzed again.

"You have one quarter of an hour to show up, or I'll pull out your beard!" Xiao Yan's exasperated voice resounded.

"That brat!" Yao Chen sighed, pulling on his robes.

"Where are you going?" Xuan Yi's expression darkened.

"You heard him. My insufferable disciple is calling," Yao Chen said helplessly.

"That disciple of yours is awfully rude. I don't see why you even accepted him as a student. Even if he's a Saint Son of the Xiao Clan, his alchemy talent can't be that outstanding, can it?" Xuan Yi huffed.

"Hehe, you'd be surprised," Yao Chen said, his tone tinged with pride as he thought about Xiao Yan's extraordinary potential.

"Oh? I'd like to see how he compares to my dear Ying'er. Let's make a bet," Xuan Yi said, her cold expression melting into a sly smile.

"If my disciple beats yours, you'll join me for another three days of... 'alchemy research.'"

"Fine!" Xuan Yi smirked. "But if your disciple wins, I'll join you for a whole month."

"Well then, let's hope he loses. I fear my Bone Spirit Cold Fire might not survive," Yao Chen teased, vanishing before her embroidered shoe could hit him.

Not long after, Yao Chen met Xiao Yan, who was leaning against a wall with a mischievous grin.

"What do you want?" Yao Chen's face mirrored his annoyance. It wasn't every day that a teacher was at the beck and call of their student.

Xiao Yan, however, merely sniffed the air.

"Why do you smell like perfume? Were you meeting with your... lady friend?"

"Stop your nonsense! We were discussing alchemy!" Yao Chen barked, his face flushing.

"Learning a foreign language, were we?" Xiao Yan mused internally but refrained from voicing it aloud. Instead, he patted Yao Chen on the shoulder.

"Alchemy discussions are good, but I'm worried you're pushing yourself too hard at your age, Teacher. Don't let it ruin your health."

"That's none of your concern. I'm still quite sturdy!" Yao Chen snapped.

"Sure, sure. You keep 'discussing' with her, and I'll find some younger beauties to 'exchange insights' with like Cao Ying and Dan Chen. Learning from them might really improve my alchemy!" Xiao Yan thought, swallowing his snark.

"I need your guidance to refine my alchemy skills. This time, I'm serious." Xiao Yan summoned a bronze cauldron with a flick of his wrist.

"I'm talking about real alchemy," he added, with a faint smirk.
