Chapter 35: Unleashing the Overlord's Poison
"Feng'er is right," Dugu Shuo said slowly. "Then we'll use poison against poison. I warned them—those who covet the Dugu Clan should be ready for annihilation."
"Wuling, Old Snake, Old Scorpion, the rest of you—assist me. I will invoke our clan's supreme art: the Overlord's Poison!"
A feverish gleam flared in Dugu Shuo's eyes.
"Yes, Clan Chief!"
All seven soul masters, except for Little Snake and Dugu Feng, responded in unison, their tone low and solemn.
To witness their patriarch channel the Overlord's Poison was a rare honor.
It began without the thunderous display Dugu Feng had imagined.
Instead, it was silent—like a drizzle that seeps into the earth without a sound.
Dugu Shuo simply fused with his Martial Soul. Each of his first four soul rings flickered once, and a steady multicolored radiance enveloped him.
One by one, Old Snake, Old Scorpion, and the five other poison masters placed their hands upon his shoulders.
Dugu Feng could tell—all their toxic energies were merging within Dugu Shuo's body.
"The Overlord's Poison requires a Soul King's power at minimum," Dugu Shuo explained through a shallow breath. "The first five soul rings must be attuned to venomous creatures—serpent, scorpion, centipede, spider, and toad. Their toxins must merge completely.
Even now, I've only fused four. The moment I attempt the fifth, my body will collapse under the poison's might.
That is why, to use it today, I must borrow my clansmen's strength."
He gave a bitter, self-deprecating smile toward his son.
"Father, I will complete the Overlord's Poison one day!" Dugu Feng clenched his fists. He understood—this was his father's way of entrusting him with their legacy.
Dugu Shuo nodded in satisfaction.
By then, his face had twisted in agony, veins pulsing along his temples.
The diamond-shaped scale on his forehead flickered brighter and brighter—as if ready to burst.
All the gathered colors of toxin condensed into that one point.
Then, suddenly, a pulse of invisible power spread outward.
A wave of shimmering light rippled from the carriage as the center, then vanished silently into the night.
Dugu Shuo's eyes glinted with savage resolve.
The Dugu name had long been feared—but too much time had passed since others last felt that fear.
After tonight, none would dare underestimate them again.
Dugu Feng, Old Scorpion, and Old Snake watched with tense anticipation.
Just how potent was the Overlord's Poison?
On the Elephant Armored Sect's carriage, fourteen giant figures crowded the space, their bodies like living mountains.
Each one pulled out three pills from their storage soul guides and placed one in their mouths.
"Take one now, keep two hidden in your teeth," Hu Yanzhen ordered with a grin. "When battle begins, crush and swallow the rest. Spirit Hall provided these antidotes—good for fifteen minutes of poison immunity.
Without their toxins, the Dugu are nothing but lambs for slaughter!"
The giants chuckled darkly, confident.
Their sect master was a Contra. Among the remaining thirteen, there were three Soul Saints, four Soul Emperors, two Soul Kings, and four Soul Elders—an overwhelming power.
The only thing they feared was poison.
If they neutralized that, nothing could stop them.
"Hu Yan Hong," Hu Yanzhen said coldly, looking at one of the burly subordinates, "you'll pretend to be poisoned. Get that icy-faced Dugu Shuo to treat you.
While he's detoxifying you, strike first. The rest of you follow up immediately.
Catch them off guard—wipe out the Dugu Clan in one swift blow!"
Hu Yan Hong sneered. "Heh, Sect Master, watch and learn."
A moment later, the fat man's eyes rolled back. "Ahhh—poison…!"
His shriek tore across the night sky, loud and dreadful.
Almost simultaneously, two more cries echoed—from Thunder Academy's carriage and from the Holy Dragon Sect's side.
"Who dares!?"
Above the Thunder Academy carriage, Yu Luomian hovered midair, dazzling electric-blue light radiating from his brow like a blazing sun.
Bolts of violet lightning-dragon serpents arced around him, crackling across the sky, encircling the convoy in a cage of light.
Eight soul rings flared in sequence—yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, black—radiant and terrifying.
"Do you fools not realize who I am? You dare attack the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan? Courting death!" Yu Luomian's shout split the night.
The poisoning of the Ge Clan didn't concern him.
To him, no one would dare offend his clan.
Yet, someone just had—and his mind began to race. Could it truly be… the Dugu Clan?
The idea disturbed him. To poison so silently required impossible skill.
Even though he knew Dugu Shuo had zero motive, suspicion still took hold—just as it had among the other uninformed factions.
Who else could wield such potent venom?
"Could my elder brother have known something would happen? Is that why he sent me instead?" Yu Luomian wondered grimly.
Normally, the deputy head of a top-tier sect would never attend such a council in person.
"Dugu Shuo!" came Tuoba Xi's voice. "You still claim innocence? My sect members have been poisoned! Cure them immediately, or the Holy Dragon Sect will declare war!"
"Clan Chief Dugu," Hu Yanzhen shouted from the other side, "someone has released poison in secret—our Hu Yan Hong has been afflicted! I beg your help to save him!"
Two voices, thunderous and deceptive, rang through the night.
Dugu Shuo's carriage door opened slowly.
He emerged, calm and cold as ever, followed by Dugu Feng and the others behind him.
The reason the Overlord's Poison hadn't erupted yet was simple—he was controlling it.
The Overlord's Poison merged multiple toxins, released from the mark between his brows.
But it wasn't just chaos—it acted as a soul skill, manipulable through will and spirit power.
He already knew their plan.
Let them play their game; they were about to choke on their own trap.
"Clan Chief Dugu, please help us detoxify!" Hu Yanzhen said aloud as he approached from his own carriage behind them.
He made three exaggerated steps forward, closing in with false urgency.
"I, Dugu Shuo, declare on my honor—it was not my clan who unleashed this poison," Dugu Shuo said clearly. "But if venom has been spread, then it is my duty to treat it. Old Scorpion, tend to the ones from Thunder Academy first."
His calm tone carried throughout the convoy.
Then he stepped toward the nearest carriage—Elephant Armored Sect's.
Hu Yanzhen's heartbeat quickened with dark excitement.
Almost there. Almost.
You cold-faced snake, I've wanted to crush you for years.
Time to die.
Their carriage was massive. Hu Yan Hong's bloated body lay sprawled across the edge of it, panting theatrically.
Around him, twelve Elephant Armored Sect soul masters stood guard, Martial Souls already activated, rings of every color radiating dangerously.
The air around them twisted with energy.
They pretended to remain vigilant—ready to strike at a moment's notice.
"He was asleep just now," Hu Yanzhen said hurriedly, feigning distress. "Then suddenly screamed—just like Clan Chief Ge's son before him!"
He played the part perfectly, agony and fury blending on his face.
"Oh? Let me take a look," Dugu Shuo replied, his voice calm and steady.
