Chapter 27: Dugu Yan Is Confused
"Jade Phosphor Twelve Fingers!"
Dugu Feng's hands moved like butterflies among flowers as the third and fourth waves of attacks followed one after another.
He stood on the Soul Fighting Platform, his gaze sharp, hands continuously releasing beams of violet light as though he were casting a powerful soul skill.
By the third attack, the meridians in his arms were already growing hot.
He quickly drew upon the energy from his inner core to protect the meridians, allowing him to continue.
Seems like my meridians still need to be strengthened, Dugu Feng thought quietly.
His cold eyes locked onto the figures in the air.
Just the force of the Jade Phosphor Twelve Fingers was enough to overwhelm them, and his greatest power—poison—had yet to be unleashed.
He could already tell that Feng Ling, Feng Li, and Ning Rongrong were close to being poisoned.
"This Dugu Feng is incredible! Only half a year since awakening his Martial Soul, and his soul skill already has such power!"
Down below, Teacher Ge Ying was speechless. Dugu Feng's talent was monstrous.
But the one more shocked than even Ge Ying was a certain angry young girl—green-eyed, short-haired with deep violet locks.
It was Dugu Yan.
Was Dugu Feng really this strong?
Dugu Yan could hardly believe it. She was already a Great Soul Master, having just recently obtained her second soul ring.
Under her grandfather's arrangement, her second soul skill was the Jade Phosphor Blue Poison, also known as the Numbing Poison. Its effect was to suppress pain and boost defense by thirty percent, a supportive enhancement skill.
Her first soul skill, Jade Phosphor Red Poison—also called the Frenzy Poison—stimulated the nerves, increasing attack and speed by twenty percent.
Her grandfather's reason was clear: since she would follow the control-type path, these two abilities formed the foundation, enhancing allies and laying the groundwork for future domain abilities.
But seeing Dugu Feng's piercing, offensive poison now—it left her stunned.
Are we even cultivating the same Martial Soul?
She was dazed. Compared to Dugu Feng's poisonous techniques, her own soul skills seemed worthless.
Tonight, she swore, she would ask her grandfather directly.
On the Soul Fighting Platform.
After Dugu Feng unleashed his fourth volley of twelve beams, Feng Ling and Feng Li's sword formation finally collapsed.
The power of Dugu Feng's Jade Phosphor Violet Poison was one thing—but more terrifying was what followed after it dispersed: a thin, invisible poison mist.
It wasn't nearly as thick as the kind exhaled directly from the mouth, but it spread silently, unseen.
With the defensive strength of Ning Rongrong and the Feng brothers, they stood no chance of resisting its corrosion.
Carried by the force of their own attacks, the poison mist had already taken effect.
Moments later, Feng Ling and Feng Li could no longer maintain control of their flying swords.
Just moments ago, they looked so proud. Now they were a sorry sight.
Their light swords tilted and faltered, sending both brothers tumbling to the ground. Even Ning Rongrong fell, losing all traces of her previous fairy-like composure.
Dugu Feng, meanwhile, strolled forward leisurely toward the fallen trio.
"Don't come any closer! We admit defeat!" Feng Li stammered, his face flushed with panic.
Every meridian in his body throbbed with pain, his mind growing hazy.
He thought Dugu Feng was about to finish them off.
"Dugu Feng! Don't push too far! If you kill us, the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan won't let you go!" Feng Ling shouted with forced bravado.
The two were in such pain they'd lost all rationality. This was a duel, not a fight to the death. Dugu Feng wasn't going to kill them.
Ning Rongrong, on the other hand, managed to stay remarkably calm.
"Are you sure you don't need me to detoxify you?" Dugu Feng asked with a faint smile.
Only then did the Feng brothers realize what he meant. "D-detoxify! Yes, detoxify!" they said quickly, eyes wide and pleading.
"Hehe, hold still!"
Dugu Feng walked up to Feng Ling. With a flick of his hand, his Emerald Nine-Segment Snake lunged forward and bit down on Feng Ling's wrist.
The snake had reached its adult length—approximately five inches. For a small serpent, that was fully grown, its body coiling a couple of times around the wrist.
In the past three months, both of Dugu Feng's Nine-Segment Snakes had grown rapidly in strength, now reaching the power level of a three-hundred-year soul beast.
Integrating them into his energy circulation had been a masterstroke—almost like gaining a cheat ability.
Now, the Nine-Segment Snake's fangs released a gentle suction force, drawing the poison completely out from Feng Ling's body.
Then it was Feng Li's turn.
Finally, Dugu Feng came to Ning Rongrong. He teased, "I use snakes to detoxify—hurts a bit, so try not to be scared."
Ning Rongrong didn't cower. Fighting her dizziness, she said coldly, "Dugu Feng, over the past three months, I've kept snakes, spiders, and centipedes in my room. I've already overcome my fear of such soul beasts.
Do you think I'm still the me from three months ago?
Let it bite!"
Her gaze didn't waver as she stared straight at the Nine-Segment Snake. No one knew how much mental effort she'd poured into her training while pushing the Feng brothers to work harder.
Everyone assumed she was just a spoiled princess—but she didn't see herself that way. She was determined to rely on herself.
The Nine-Segment Snake looked at Ning Rongrong's pale, delicate hand, its crimson eyes gleaming.
With a snap, it bit down.
Ning Rongrong gritted her teeth but didn't look away.
To overcome fear required more than just words.
Soon, the detoxification was complete.
"I'll deliver your prize as promised," Ning Rongrong said coldly.
"No rush. I trust you wouldn't cheat, Rongrong."
Dugu Feng replied casually, then turned and walked off the platform.
This time, neither Ning Rongrong nor the Feng brothers dared to demand that Dugu Feng call her "boss." Losing twice was enough. No words could salvage their pride.
The brothers sneaked glances at Ning Rongrong and nearly groaned aloud. She still hadn't given up?
Indeed, Ning Rongrong hadn't.
The path of cultivation was long. She refused to believe Dugu Feng could stay this strong forever.
Since she couldn't defeat him for now, she would train harder.
One day, she would make Dugu Feng yield.
Below the stage.
As Dugu Feng passed, students instinctively stepped aside, clearing the way. No one wanted to cross paths with someone who wielded poison so lethally.
He spotted Dugu Yan in the distance. Their eyes met for a moment before she turned away coldly, leaving with Ye Lingling at her side.
So Dugu Yan truly saw him as an enemy of her bloodline?
What had really happened between his grandfather and Dugu Bo?
Dugu Feng's curiosity deepened.
Maybe he should visit home tonight and ask his father, Dugu Shuo, about what had happened in the past. His father practically worshiped him as the family's prodigy—he would tell him the truth for sure.
That night.
Dugu Yan returned to the Dugu Mansion heavy-hearted.
She was desperate to ask her grandfather why Dugu Feng's soul skills were so powerful while she could only stack two enhancement-type abilities.
"Yan Yan, why does your face look so pale? Who dared to bully my Yan Yan? I'll make them pay!" Dugu Bo exclaimed, noticing her troubled expression.
"Grandfather, no one bullied me. I saw Dugu Feng again at the academy today. He fought those two sword-wielding brothers."
Dugu Yan clung to Dugu Bo's arm and explained everything that had happened.
At first, Dugu Bo smiled, but his expression slowly grew serious.
