Chapter 67: Come, Let Me Show You a Good Show
The battle was over.
Everyone looked relieved—except for three people.
Zhao Wuji was covered head to toe in wounds, Tang San had passed out cold, and Dai Mubai's face was dark enough to drip water.
He had hoped to see Luo Ling humiliated but ended up watching him shine again.
"Mubai! What are you standing there for? Go get Oscar! Can't you see the state I'm in?" Zhao Wuji barked with a half-laugh, half-curse.
Dai Mubai snapped out of his frustration, forcing a smile. "I'll go right away!"
Moments later, Oscar arrived at the training grounds.
"Did you people just tear the whole place apart?" he exclaimed upon seeing the destruction.
"Less talk, more sausages!" Zhao Wuji grumbled impatiently.
Oscar's mood brightened instantly, and he started conjuring on the spot.
"The great and mighty sausage of your lord Oscar!"
The bizarre incantation made Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong stiffen in disgust. Both girls turned away, their faces twisted in embarrassment.
Even though Xiao Wu had heard it before, she still wrinkled her nose and averted her gaze.
Luo Ling didn't even bother pretending he wanted one.
"Five copper coins each! Fair price for all!" Oscar said cheerfully as he handed one out.
No one moved.
Finally, Zhao Wuji sighed. "Oscar, give me one sausage—and a smoked one while you're at it."
After devouring the sausages, his wounds began to heal slightly. Standing up, Zhao Wuji addressed the students.
"You four pass! Mubai, get them settled in their dorms. Classes start tomorrow."
With that, he left quickly, too embarrassed to linger.
Watching him go, Luo Ling smirked inwardly.
Zhao Wuji had no idea he'd soon be getting a late-night "visit."
Tang Hao was nearby.
After Zhao Wuji disappeared from sight, Dai Mubai's fake smile returned as he said, "Come on, I'll take you to the dorms."
He walked toward Zhu Zhuqing, reaching out to help her—but she ignored him, turning instead to stand beside Luo Ling.
"Are your injuries serious?" Luo Ling asked, supporting her arm gently.
"I'm fine. Teacher Zhao held back at the end," Zhu Zhuqing replied softly, shaking her head.
Left standing awkwardly, Dai Mubai clenched both fists, his knuckles whitening with suppressed rage.
"Brother Mubai, weren't you going to show us the way?" Luo Ling said suddenly, smiling politely.
Dai Mubai inhaled sharply, forcing a grin. "Y-Yes! The dorms are this way. Follow me."
He strode ahead, his back stiff.
Luo Ling couldn't help but feel amused—so much for the proud Evil-Eyed White Tiger; the man could swallow anger quite well when he had to.
Soon enough, Luo Ling was walking with Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong followed with Xiao Wu, and Oscar carried the unconscious Tang San.
At the dorm area, they found that the male and female dormitories were separate but not far apart.
After helping Zhu Zhuqing get settled, Luo Ling followed Oscar into the boys' dorm, arranging a spot beside Tang San's bed. He was, after all, the "accompanying student."
He exchanged few words with Oscar, and before long, night fell.
When midnight came, Luo Ling silently activated Ghost Concealment and slipped out unseen.
He moved toward the girls' dormitory—where all three were fast asleep.
Stopping beside Xiao Wu's bed, he did what he once had before—lightly tapped her cheek.
This time, she woke instantly. Seeing the familiar face and those crimson eyes, she blinked but didn't scream.
Luo Ling chuckled softly, a gleam of red flashing between his fingertips as it melted into her body. Ghost Concealment shrouded her once more.
Both figures vanished utterly from sight. Luo Ling pointed toward the door, motioning her to follow.
Hesitant at first, Xiao Wu finally obeyed.
"It's been a long time," Luo Ling said once they were outside.
"Hmph. What are you here for this time?" she asked, glaring at him suspiciously.
"You really did remember what I told you all those years ago," Luo Ling said with a faint smile.
"I didn't!" Xiao Wu shot back immediately.
Luo Ling just shook his head, his smile fading as his tone turned serious. "Do you remember what I said—about being careful of Tang San's father?"
Xiao Wu tilted her head. It was strange—he'd woken her up in the middle of the night just for that? "I remember. Why?"
"Because," Luo Ling said meaningfully, "I'm about to show you a good show."
"What?" Xiao Wu blinked, confused.
…
Behind Shrek Academy, in the mountains.
A terrifying wave of spirit power raged through the night.
In the clearing stood a massive figure, swinging an enormous black hammer. Nine spirit rings circled beneath him—each shining brighter than the last.
A Title Douluo.
And his ninth ring… was crimson.
A hundred-thousand-year spirit ring.
A prize every soul master in the world dreamt of.
Xiao Wu didn't yet understand why Luo Ling had brought her—but when she saw that figure floating in the air, her entire body trembled violently.
"A Title Douluo?" she whispered, her blood running cold. She tried to back away, but Luo Ling caught her wrist.
"Relax. You're still under my first soul skill, Ghost Concealment. He can't see or sense you," Luo Ling said calmly.
Xiao Wu froze mid-step. Her heart still pounded, but she stood still, staring up at the figure.
Especially when her gaze fell upon that blood-red ring—her fear mingled with anger.
"This is the 'show' you brought me to see?" she asked tersely.
"That's right." Luo Ling pointed upward with a faint smile. "Do you know who that is?"
Xiao Wu frowned but said nothing, her eyes locked on him.
"That's Tang Hao—Tang San's father," Luo Ling said plainly.
Her eyes widened instantly, her body trembling even harder.
As if reading her mind, Luo Ling added softly, "Yes. He already knows what you are. Perhaps he's simply waiting… for the right time to kill you."
"Maybe when Tang San becomes a Title Douluo. Maybe sooner."
Xiao Wu's face went pale as snow.
Luo Ling wasn't bluffing—he didn't need to.
This Xiao Wu didn't share the deep bond with Tang San from the original story. To Tang Hao, she was nothing more than a hundred-thousand-year soul beast walking on two legs.
A rare resource—not a person.
There was a trace of guilt in Luo Ling's eyes. By right, Xiao Wu wouldn't have been targeted like this; her meeting Tang Hao was purely the consequence of his interference.
But regret? No—he would have done it the same way again. He had never thought of himself as a good man.
This trip to Shrek was meant for two things: to crush Yu Xiaogang—and to settle old debts.
"I'll give you two choices," Luo Ling said quietly.
Startled, Xiao Wu turned to him, fear still flickering in her eyes.
"You and Tang San are close to rank thirty. When Zhao Wuji takes you to the Star Dou Forest for your next spirit rings…"
"You can summon the Titan Giant Ape and Azure Bull Python. Have them take you far away. Don't come back."
His tone was calm, almost gentle.
And for the first time, Xiao Wu realized—this man had never once looked at her like prey.
For someone who knew her true identity, he held not a trace of greed or desire.
He had once told her they were just "ordinary friends from the future." But now, Xiao Wu suddenly realized—she hadn't believed that even for a second.
