Raizen replied calmly. Slow and steady wins the race; when Kurenai grows stronger, there will be even more to reap.
Hearing his words, Kurenai smiled, satisfied.
"No… it's just genjutsu, Kurenai. I can teach you too,"
Asuma, seeing Kurenai run to Raizen, immediately interjected.
"Really? Didn't you say no?"
Kurenai raised a skeptical brow.
Asuma patted his chest confidently.
"Without the Sharingan, my genjutsu might not even beat him."
Turning to Seiji, he continued,
"Uchiha Seiji, how about a genjutsu contest next month? Let Kurenai see whose genjutsu is stronger."
Asuma observed Seiji carefully, keeping one rule in mind:
Seiji wouldn't use the Sharingan.
Otherwise, challenging someone in genjutsu would be pointless.
With the Sharingan, victory would appear effortless—just luck, in the eyes of others.
"Asuma, is it because Seiji is from the Land of Lightning that you're wary of him?"
Kurenai frowned. Every time Raizen was mentioned, Asuma seemed to belittle him.
Asuma was the legitimate son of the Hokage, a true heir—but that didn't justify his subtle prejudice.
After all, Raizen was a fellow villager, a member of the Uchiha clan.
"Ah, no. I didn't mean to look down on him,"
Asuma waved his hands.
But he couldn't admit the real reason.....he felt uneasy that his childhood friend Kurenai was always paying attention to Raizen.
"Seems Asuma enjoys challenges and has ambition. I accept the genjutsu sparring,"
Raizen said suddenly.
The current Asuma was still a bit of a delinquent, rebellious even, with a strained relationship with Hiruzen Sarutobi and his father. He would later leave Konoha to serve the Daimyo, becoming one of the Twelve Guardian Ninja.
It was natural for him to feel jealousy now.
Even three-person teams often had two men and one woman, so adolescent men could prove themselves.
Hiruzen had personally told Kakashi this.
"Alright, you agreed yourself!"
Asuma beamed at Raizen's readiness.
He quickly said goodbye to Kurenai and ran toward the Sarutobi clan.
Raizen guessed Asuma planned a month of intensive training.
The Sarutobi clan was resource-rich, after all.
That was fine. Raizen was confident he could surpass Asuma.
The Sharingan's influence wasn't limited to activation. Even when dormant, its chakra radiated through his body, boosting physical abilities.
His control over chakra exceeded Asuma's.
This also explained why Raizen could teach Kurenai—genjutsu requires subtle control, invading the target's brain nerves.
He had ample experience in this area.
It was enough to decide the outcome.
Not to mention he also possessed the genjutsu Lightning Release: Blazing Flash, obtained with Uchiha Hazuki's guidance.
"Kiyoshi-kun, Asuma is just like that. He means no harm, so don't worry about him,"
Kurenai said helplessly. Once Raizen made a decision, he rarely changed it.
"It's alright,"
Raizen shook his head.
Asuma's talents in Wind Release and Fire Release were impressive; it wouldn't hurt to see what he could do.
"Let's go, time for tutoring at my house,"
Raizen said, turning to Kurenai.
Since Nohara Rin had already taught him tree-climbing, water-walking, and insights into the Three Body Techniques, little remained for daily training.
Most lessons now involved theory or shuriken practice....no need to gather every day.
"Okay."
Kurenai nodded, following Raizen.
As dusk settled, the warm orange glow cast long shadows across the rooftops.
The old branches in the courtyard swayed gently, bathed in the crimson of the setting sun.
Kurenai prepared to bid farewell to Raizen, concluding the day's training.
Just then, a rapid knocking came at the door.
"Raizen-kun, are you home?"
Raizen raised an eyebrow; the familiar voice instantly revealed who it was.
He got up and walked to the gate. Opening it, he saw Nohara Rin, her face flushed and slightly tired, still catching her breath.
"Rin Nohara-kun, why are you here so late?"
Raizen's voice was calm as his gaze swept over her rosy cheeks, glowing faintly in the evening light.
Rin lowered her head slightly, panting.
"I thought about it carefully… and I still wanted to ask Raizen-kun for advice…"
Before she could finish, Rin took a deep breath and looked up at Raizen.
A casual glance revealed Yuhi Kurenai standing behind him.
"Kurenai, what are you doing here?"
Rin asked, surprised. She had assumed their interactions were limited to school, never expecting Kurenai to already be inside Raizen's house.
If it weren't for Kakashi's influence, Rin probably wouldn't have known about this at all.
