Hell's Paradise Island lately reminded Phei of Earth after one of those soft, brief rain showers that barely managed to wet the ground yet somehow left the entire world smelling different afterward. Rain would touch dust, stone and leaves just enough to awaken that distinctive scent without drowning anything beneath water, and Paradise Island carried something strangely Phei could only describe it as that through its Mana and spiritual presence.
Only here, the scent felt ancient rather than wet Earth; it was only an analogy.
Phei had noticed it the moment he returned, but standing outside beneath the open night made it far stronger. The island possessed a character inside its Mana that he had never found anywhere else, an old spiritual heaviness woven through the air, the land and even the distant sea surrounding Paradise.
It was difficult to explain to anyone who could not sense what he sensed now.
