He was curled slightly on his side, screaming, his hands wrapped tightly around his stomach as if he was trying to hold himself together. Jamie stood beside him, frozen and confused, looking like he had no idea what he was supposed to do.
The drug had kicked in.

Phoenix cried out again, his voice breaking as another wave of pain hit him.
Soren's eyes widened as he stepped closer. "He's bleeding."
"That's proof that it's working," I replied quickly, forcing myself to stay calm. Panic wouldn't help anyone right now. "Can you help me get him into the bath and strip him?"
"What?" Both of them looked at me like I had just said something insane.
"Hurry," I said firmly. "He's bleeding the baby out."
