I bit my nails, pacing tight circles in front of the massive floor to ceiling glass doors that separated the residence's foyer from the night outside. The glass was cool against my palm every time I pressed it there, as if I could somehow will Kasteil to appear faster through sheer touch. Beyond the transparent wall, the floodlights cast long, pale beams across the snow covered courtyard, turning the world into sharp black and white contrasts. I kept my eyes fixed on the darkness, waiting for the familiar silhouette to emerge from the trees.
