Chapter 222 - Chapter 609: Groudon, I Really Have to Control You

"Roar!"

Without giving Axel much time to think, Groudon and Kyogre let out roars at the same time. As they glared furiously at each other, flames and torrents of water erupted simultaneously.

The Maxie riding on Groudon and the Archie beside Kyogre both fled in panic, sprinting madly in the direction away from the Hoenn continent.

As the bosses of Team Aqua and Team Magma, they understood better than anyone just how terrifying these two were.

"Move, go find the Red Orb and the Indigo Orb right now, otherwise we won't be able to control them."

"That's right, these two have already broken away from their mission. In their current state, they can't make the ocean and land expand at all. Instead, they'll only cause meaningless world destruction!"

Watching the two of them flee, the corner of Axel's mouth twitched.

These two actually seemed like decent people. No helping it, the Pokémon world really does mass-produce this kind of villain.

"Giratina, help them calm down a bit."

Facing the terrifying flames and water streams that were about to collide right in front of him, Axel's expression remained calm.

At his side, space rippled like flowing water. A massive, magnificent gate tore open the fabric of space and appeared in the Pokémon world.

Giratina's head squeezed out from the gate. After casting a disdainful glance in Kyogre's direction, it turned to look at Groudon.

Dense black light spread across its body, forming a colossal dragon of light and shadow that charged straight toward Groudon, head-on into the flames.

That dragon of light and shadow carried horrifying chaotic power. Just one glance made it feel as if the world were upside down, leaving the mind reeling.

When the flames and the light-shadow collided, the expected explosion never came. At the instant they made contact, the solid flames immediately scattered, breaking apart into sparks that shot off in all directions.

Meanwhile, the Strange Light Giratina released was also weakened considerably, shrinking from a light-shadow dragon into an ordinary streak of black light that shot straight into the center of Groudon's brow.

"ROAR!"

Groudon's dark-golden pupils instantly turned crimson, its sharp gaze filled with madness and confusion.

In its mind, it was as if everything in the world had turned into Kyogre!

The one facing it was Kyogre. The people and Pokémon that had just been standing between it and Kyogre were also Kyogre. Even it itself had turned into a red Kyogre.

"ROAR!", Letting out a terrifying bellow, Groudon raised its sharp claws, deciding to kill the Kyogre it had turned into first.

Its claws clenched into fists, wrapped in dense flames, and smashed viciously into its own forehead, producing a series of cracking sounds that made one's teeth ache.

Axel: "..."

'Great. This one doesn't seem very smart either.'

If this kept up, the little bit of brain it already had would probably end up like Buzzwole's.

"Giratina, Buzzwole, Gardevoir, you deal with Kyogre first. I'll try to control Groudon."

As he spoke, Axel linked his mind. In his mental world, the crimson orb, under his control, rapidly transformed into a youthful version of Groudon.

With a single thought, countless threads appeared on Groudon's body, extending from Axel's spiritual world and spreading toward Groudon's massive form.

Only Axel could see these threads, yet they truly existed. Their spread was astonishingly fast, as if ignoring spatial distance entirely. In the blink of an eye, they landed on Groudon's body, connecting proportionally.

Only then did Groudon realize in horror that it seemed to be bound by something.

That sensation was even more terrifying than the muddled chaos currently filling its mind.

"ROAR!"

Groudon twisted its body in panic, trying to break free from the threads. But no matter how it struggled, even when blasting them with moves, the threads suffered no damage at all. They remained firmly connected between it and the small Groudon.

With a thought, Axel controlled the small Groudon to raise its right hand. At the same time, the threads on the massive Groudon snapped taut. Its eyes filled with terror as its own right hand was forced to rise against its will.

It let out a pained roar, its gaze falling on Axel. Magma surged over its body, radiating an intense sense of threat.

Axel smiled, not taking that threat to heart at all.

If not for the control imposed by Giratina, it might have been able to think clearly about the situation and struggle with Axel for control.

Because the existence of these threads wasn't like the unreasonable binding of red chains. They were more like a rope in a tug-of-war.

Whoever had greater strength would be the one to dictate the other's actions.

Unfortunately for Groudon, under Giratina's combined suppression, Axel was the one with greater strength right now.

"Calm down a bit. Stick with me and you'll have good food and good drinks. What's so bad about that?"

Axel restrained Groudon from moving, smiling cheerfully at it.

"ROAR!"

In response, another furious roar echoed out. Under Giratina's special trait, the current Groudon was like a madman.

A monster that even beat itself up wasn't exactly easy to communicate with.

A heavy aura spread from its body. Earthly power surged rapidly, gathering around Groudon as its center, making it seem as solid and oppressive as an entire continent.

An incomparably terrifying great sword condensed into shape before it. Even the wildly surging sea seemed to be suppressed and cowed by this power, retreating backward.

But very quickly, Groudon fell silent.

Because its body wouldn't move... it couldn't lift that great sword.

Axel chuckled as he walked forward a few steps, his hands gripping at empty air. The Precipice Blades sword seemed to appear in his grasp as he raised it straight up.

"Say, if this Precipice Blades smacks you, do you think it'd hurt a lot?"

Groudon: "..."

So beasts really do get extremely speechless when they're at a loss for words.

Axel didn't tease Groudon any further. His eyes suddenly sharpened.

While a major reason he wanted to subdue Groudon was to keep it from falling into the hands of Pryce and others, Groudon obviously wouldn't understand that.

To truly subdue a Pokémon, one still had to follow the basic laws of this world.

Either move it with emotion, or overwhelm it with strength.

Since this was their first meeting, there was no emotional bond to speak of.

That left only one path.

Battle and capture.

"Gardevoir, Pheromosa, you handle Kyogre."

"Giratina, you're fighting Groudon with me!"
