Chapter 80 - Chapter 457: The “Child of Weather” Tag

In the Pokémon world, there are quite a few Pokémon that can control the weather.

But those who can be called the Child of Weather are outrageously rare.

Sure enough, as Axel's eyes lit up, a Pokémon's figure appeared on the video screen.

This Pokémon is like a little weather-doll, except most of its body is gray.

The most wondrous thing about the Castforms is that whenever they encounter a weather change, they transform into the form of the current weather.

Even their own type can change accordingly.

If Axel remembered correctly, people had discovered four forms of this Pokémon so far.

There's the Normal type, their usual appearance, and then three weather-corresponding forms: Fire type for clear sunny weather, Water type for rain, and Ice type for hail.

Perhaps on this Pokémon there was the tag Dragonair needed.

Even if they themselves didn't have the tag appear, with Axel's current breeding techniques, he could probably use the Castforms as a medium to let Dragonair acquire the tag.

But holding to the idea of "standing on the shoulders of those who came before," Axel still patiently watched the video all the way through.

'Caitlin has paid a lot for it, I can't just waste it, right?'

Soon, after watching the video, Axel couldn't help but shake his head.

"After watching this hour-long video, I feel like I wasted fifty-nine minutes…"

Lance's method was extremely simple and crude: let Dragonair live among a huge number of Castforms, constantly observe the Castforms' transformation process, and eventually have an epiphany.

The most valuable part of the video was Lance using his Dragon mastery to extract the insights from Dragonair.

The problem was that stuff was useless to Axel.

He already had an tag system and the Breeding Master tag, did he still need someone's vague epiphany?

"The simplest approach is still to find as many Castforms as possible and see if any of them have a weather-control tag. If not, use the regenerable body tissue from Castforms together with some other secret treasures."

Axel quickly drew up a plan and hurried outside.

When Caitlin gave him the gold card earlier, she'd already told Axel that she'd gathered a large number of Castforms on the island.

Her original plan was to put Axel's Dragonair among the Castform population so that Dragonair could use Lance's insight to rapidly master the ability.

To Axel, those Castforms could just as well contribute ingredients.

"Hello, Mr. Axel!"

No sooner had Axel stepped out of the hot spring than a maid in a black-and-white suit with golden accents came forward.

"Miss Caitlin has already instructed us, we can provide you with any service you require."

"Thanks."

Axel explained the situation briefly, and the maid quickly led him toward the breeding house.

As the automatic doors slid open, Axel froze.

Inside that breeding house, an environment he knew intimately, there were literally thousands of Castforms.

These Castforms had clearly once been wild Pokémon. Each one curiously examined the breeding house's furnishings, showing no unease about the unfamiliar surroundings; instead, their eyes were full of excitement.

The reason was simple.

Down the breeding-house aisle, dozens of staff pushed carts back and forth.

Each cart was piled high with supplies, at the lowest end were various elemental gems.

Better carts even had some manufactured held items.

The staff dumped breeding supplies down in big clumps like feeding pigs, letting the Castforms pick for themselves.

The whole thing was basically "use wealth to win people over."

"Ahem~", The maid beside Axel cleared her throat, and the staff immediately stopped moving, standing straight as the maid's gaze fell on Axel and the others.

The Castforms imitated them, curiously looking at Axel as he entered.

'So this is what those rich people the tribe leaders mentioned look like?'

"Greetings, Castforms, and honorable Castform chiefs," The maid bowed politely, giving full respect to the Castforms.

"House Caitlin has already informed you: this visit is primarily to breed Mr. Axel's Dragonair. During this period, House Caitlin will cover your basic food and provide supplies sufficient for one year."

"Of course, if during cooperation there is any dissatisfaction, you are free to leave at any time."

"House Caitlin will, as when you came, dispatch luxury airships to return you to your homes, and will continue to pay wages to ensure no impact on your lives."

"Bubbles!", As soon as the maid finished, the highest-level Castforms patted their chests and shouted.

They looked around with sharp eyes sweeping their kin.

'Leave?'

'Who do you think dares to leave!'

'We've eaten and drunk so much, and there's a special airship to take us home.'

'It's just cooperating with some research, right?'

'I want to see who's shameless enough to walk away!'

Axel grinned and gave a thumbs-up to those Castforms.

No wonder they could be tribe leaders, this sense of honor alone was admirable.

Since the Castforms themselves had patted their chests to promise, Axel wasn't going to be polite either.

He scanned through the Castforms and began checking the entries on them.

[Castform: Lv. 23, Tag: General Mastery]

[Castform: Lv. 12, Tag: Fire-type Mastery]

[Castform: Lv. 13, Tag: Ice-type Proficiency]

[Cast...]

"This is ridiculous?", Axel blinked, feeling annoyed.

He'd just checked dozens of Castforms and all he saw were basic enhancements and the three types they could transform into.

Could it be that Castforms didn't have a weather-related tag?

Axel's mind conjured that possibility, maybe he'd overestimated this group.

But… Lance had clearly learned something from these Pokémon.

With that thought, Axel patiently looked through the Castforms again.

This time he changed the order of inspection, first checking the tribe leaders.

The next moment, Axel's eyes lit up.

Among the seven chiefs, fully five Castforms possessed an tag called Child of Weather.

[Child of Weather (Speed): Weather-type moves are cast faster.]

[Child of Weather (Domination): Weather-type moves have a chance to avoid being overridden by enemy weather.]

[Child of Weather…]

In short, without exception, all their entries were related to weather.

Axel rubbed his hands together and smiled at the chiefs.

"Weren't you just saying that none of you could leave until you'd helped with my research?"

They all froze, clearly surprised Axel could understand them, but immediately patted their chests again.

They'd eat and take supplies, they had to guarantee they completed the task.

Otherwise they'd have no face to return home with.

"In that case, I won't be polite."

Having received the agreement, Axel gave the chiefs a thumbs-up.

The next moment, the Poké Ball in his hand lit up.

"Come out, Dragonair! These seven Castform chiefs have all agreed to be your sparring partners."

Dragonair: (^▽^)

'Master, so many toys today!'

Seven chiefs: "???"

'We said we'd cooperate, not that you'd send your Pokémon out to hit people!'
