Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Otto: Does Kallen engrave everything into her genes or what?

"Grandpa, these are the assessment results from St. Freya Academy."

Theresa finished reporting through the communicator the names of the Valkyries who had performed relatively well in this round of exams.

These Valkyries already possessed the strength and knowledge a qualified Valkyrie should have.

Right now, they were only lacking real combat experience in dealing with Honkai incidents.

Theresa planned to send these Valkyries to Siberia to handle the Honkai remnants there.

Of course, when reporting the results, Theresa did not tell Otto about Kiana's grades or her name.

After all, she knew very well what her grandfather was like.

She absolutely couldn't let him set his sights on her cheap niece again.

"Well done, Theresa."

Otto's voice came through the communicator.

Facing Theresa, his own granddaughter, Otto never held back his praise.

Then he asked with concern, "I heard that the Hyperion recently crashed by accident in Changkong City."

"Yes, Grandpa." Theresa's heart tightened, thinking Otto was about to ask whether a Herrscher had appeared in Changkong City.

She began planning how to explain the reason for Hyperion's crash to him.

"At present, thanks to the efforts of the technical department, the Hyperion has been fully repaired and can operate normally again."

Immediately after, Otto's voice sounded again.

"To finish repairs in such a short time… Theresa, does St. Freya still have enough funds? If not, you can feel free to tell your grandpa." Otto spoke softly and gently.

Perhaps out of guilt toward Kallen, Otto's care for Theresa was genuinely heartfelt.

Seeing that Otto did not ask for detailed information about Changkong City, Theresa sighed in relief.

She didn't want to make up stories to deceive people unless she really had to.

"As for funding…"

Theresa recalled Himeko and the technical department withholding wages.

Adding that amount together with her own pocket money had been just enough to cover Hyperion's repair costs.

And the remaining funds were still enough for St. Freya's expenses.

But…

Since Grandpa had already offered, why would she not take it?

Theresa said solemnly, "Right now, St. Freya Academy is having cash-flow difficulties and urgently needs financial support from headquarters."

The moment she finished speaking, her phone received a notification.

She looked, Otto had transferred the funds.

This was Otto's best quality, never dragging his feet when sending money.

Other branches, "?"

Theresa happily accepted the support Grandpa gave his granddaughter.

Then, just as Otto was about to end the call, Theresa remembered the name she saw on Kiana's test paper.

A name she had not been able to find anywhere in Schicksal's database.

Yet the system had indeed marked it as the correct answer.

This puzzled Theresa greatly, so she planned to ask the most knowledgeable person in all of Schicksal, her own grandfather, Otto.

"Grandpa, do you know 'Lady Green Lily'?"

"..."

Otto, who had just been cheerfully saying goodbye, fell instantly silent when he heard Theresa's question.

Theresa asked tentatively, "Grandpa?"

"Hmm?" Coming back to his senses, Otto replied, "It's nothing, Theresa. Grandpa was just thinking about your question."

"As for the Lady Green Lily you asked about, she was a friend of the Saint Kallen from 500 years ago. She once sacrificed herself to lure away the guards so Kallen could obtain noble funding to save the common people."

While forcefully suppressing the awkwardness in his heart, Otto recited the past experiences of himself… of Lady Green Lily.

Telling his own black history to someone else.

And that person was his own granddaughter.

What could possibly be more humiliating than this?

Luckily, Theresa wasn't on a video call.

Otherwise Otto would immediately shut off this body's emotional circuits.

Even luckier, Theresa didn't know that Lady Green Lily was him.

However...

"Theresa, where did you learn that name?"

Otto was confused.

At most, only he, Kallen, and a few guards knew that name.

Those guards and Kallen… were already gone. The people who knew that name should no longer exist.

Holding this doubt, Otto asked, "Theresa, where did you hear this name?"

He certainly didn't remember ever writing it into Kallen's memoirs.

Deep in thought, Theresa instinctively wanted to say Kiana's name.

But coming back to her senses, she stopped herself just in time, switching to a flimsy excuse instead.

"I dreamt about it last night. I only remember the name 'Lady Green Lily.' It felt like someone I knew, so I wanted to ask you, Grandpa."

"..."

Otto fell silent again.

Just like before, Otto saw traces of Kallen in Theresa, which had made him adopt her as his granddaughter.

And now, once again, he began wondering whether Theresa was Kallen's reincarnation.

If it were anyone else saying this, Otto would have been one hundred percent certain they were lying.

But the one who said it was Theresa, the person he once mistakenly believed was Kallen reborn.

'Another clever coincidence, or…'

'Does Kallen engrave everything into her genes?'

As for Levi's accusations, Kiana had something to say.

[A true sharpshooter has one hundred percent trust in their gun!]

How could you add something like a safety, an obvious device for people who don't trust their weapon?

[You're the one who trusted too much! I ended up suffering in the Alchemy Division because of you.]

Levi poured out his grievances in the chat.

[My leg is basically useless after getting shot through, and as the group owner you're trying to shift responsibility!]

[Kiana: ...]

[Elysia: I'll say something fair… okay, I'm done.]

[Lumine: Master and servant having a quarrel?]

[Ding! "Group Member" Lumine has been muted for 30 minutes by "Group Owner" Kiana!]

———

[Teyvat]

Lumine, who had just finished an Adventurers' Guild commission, saw this and pouted.

"One day I'm going to overthrow you!"

"Lumine, what are you muttering about?" Cute Paimon asked cutely.

Lumine replied just as cutely, "I'm thinking about how best to prepare emergency food like you so it tastes better."

Paimon: "..."

'Is this "emergency food" joke never going away or what?'

———

[Alchemy Division, in the Infirmary]

"Ow! It hurts so much!"

"Now you know pain? Just now at home, when you said you'd overcome death, you didn't look like this at all."

Levi rolled his eyes repeatedly from the pain and had no strength to talk back.

After complaining, Qingque removed her hands from the gauze.

Then she took out the weapon she had swiped from Levi's desk and placed it beside him.

"Where did you get this weapon? It's such low quality it doesn't even have a safety."

No wonder Levi misfired and shot himself.

"What's a safety? I don't need it!"

Facing Qingque's complaints, Levi had his own opinion.

"A true sharpshooter has one hundred percent trust in their gun!"

"A safety, something invented out of mistrust, is just an obstacle to the bond between me and my gun!"

'Don't underestimate our bond!'

'You jerk!'

[Kiana: "? Do you guys not have your own material?]

[Levi: What yours is mine… you're all mine!]
