Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Poor Sanctum Medicus

"The reason Brother Levi's illness was cured so quickly, could it be thanks to you, young lady?" Jing Yuan spoke with certainty.

If that were true, it would explain why Levi had recovered within just a few short hours.

Moreover, Jing Yuan suspected that the relationship between the person before him and Levi wasn't ordinary.

It was very possible they were relatives, or lovers.

The reason she hadn't come to Luofu with Levi might have been because she'd gone elsewhere to find a way to cure him.

And now, it seemed that she had indeed found that cure.

"Whether it is or isn't, what's it to you?"

Levi's cold reply seemed to confirm Jing Yuan's guess.

But the next moment, Levi's sudden movement made him freeze.

Levi raised his hand, his five fingers clenched slightly, and in an instant, an unusual weapon appeared in his palm.

Keys of the Void.

A weapon from the imaginary space.

He turned the muzzle toward Jing Yuan, and imaginary energy gathered at the barrel. A streak of golden light shot toward Jing Yuan.

"General!"

Yanqing, who had arrived with the Cloud Knights, immediately threw his sword in front of Jing Yuan.

The blade was struck midair by Levi's attack.

Bang!

The sword shattered and clattered to the ground.

"Ah!"

Vmmm!

Jing Yuan turned to look at where Levi's attack had hit not far away.

A figure screamed in the shadows. His body began to twist, shrinking into a single point before disappearing completely.

It was as if...

'He was thrown out of the world.'

Crack!

Levi turned the weapon toward Jing Yuan. "You broke your word. I should bury you together with him."

Jing Yuan crossed his arms and replied calmly, "You're not my match."

Levi countered, "Can you cut through space?"

If one couldn't, they couldn't harm him, yet he could harm them.

"..."

Jing Yuan fell silent. A divine general he might be, but he had never tried cutting through space before.

Levi shook his head, put away the Keys of the Void, and said, "Since you call him brother, then don't disturb him. Don't tell him what happened tonight."

"And don't tell him that I came tonight, either…"

He didn't want to wake up the next morning to find a bunch of Cloud Knights surrounding him with endless questions.

His peaceful life had only just begun, it couldn't be ruined now.

What did the Disciples of the Sanctum Medicus have to do with him, the king of slacking off, the little money-making genius, the gambling legend Levi?

Jing Yuan understood what he meant and nodded.

Whoosh!

The white-haired girl standing opposite him vanished in an instant. Jing Yuan knew she had teleported away using her spatial ability.

"She really comes and goes like the wind…" he sighed, then looked toward Levi's house.

Seeing Levi lying on the bed, he frowned slightly.

He was sure he hadn't seen him lying there earlier…

'Maybe she used her ability to hide him,' he reasoned.

'Reasonable enough.'

Once the girl was gone, Yanqing led the Cloud Knights forward to inspect the corpses on the ground.

"How strange… why are all of them just normal human corpses?" Yanqing muttered.

In the photo sent earlier, there had clearly been many Disciples who had revealed their Mara-struck forms.

Yet now, the bodies on the ground were entirely ordinary, no signs of demonic features at all.

Yanqing stood up and shook his head at Jing Yuan, indicating they couldn't find any trace of the Mara-struck bodies.

Jing Yuan gestured for him to come closer.

Perplexed, Yanqing approached. "General, do you have a task for me?"

Jing Yuan smiled faintly. "Didn't you say you couldn't find where the Mara-struck bodies went? Then, look down."

"Look down? If they were on the ground, I'd have already..."

"What?" Jing Yuan gestured toward the 'painting' on the ground before them. "Wouldn't you say this young lady's 'artwork' deserves to be called a masterpiece?"

"General…" Yanqing's expression twisted as he stared at the blood-red 'painting' at his feet. "This… is where the Mara-struck ones ended up?"

Jing Yuan nodded.

Compressing them into a two-dimensional painting using spatial power, only someone who had mastered space itself could do that.

"Hmm…" Jing Yuan rubbed his chin, thinking of what to call it.

"How about… The Pain of Immortality?"

Looking at the blood-soaked ground, Jing Yuan could easily imagine what kind of agony they had experienced before dying.

Their regeneration was too strong, when facing an unbeatable opponent, that only meant more torment before the end.

Those who hadn't turned Mara-struck had died instantly with a single strike, spared from endless pain. Lucky, really.

"Bring this painting to the Ten Kings Division and let them handle what remains of these bodies."

"General!" Yanqing's eyes widened as the painting began to tremble.

BOOM!

Without the restraint of the Herrscher of the Void's power, once the remaining imaginary energy was spent, the Pain of Immortality exploded.

Countless bits of flesh and blood splattered everywhere, staining the once-clean streets of Starskiff Haven.

Jing Yuan silently wiped the gore off his face and looked around at the hellish scene.

He sighed. "Clean up the area. Gather all the remains for the Ten Kings Division to handle. Verify the normal corpses and bury them together."

This time, Sanctum Medicus had suffered a massive loss.

He wondered if their mysterious leader would explode in rage because of it.

———

[A While Later]

The Cloud Knights carried away the corpses for investigation, and the Ten Kings Division came to handle the Mara-struck remains.

The dense sound of footsteps outside made it impossible for nearby residents to fall back asleep.

———

Kiana, "I clearly went there to help you, so why am I still the one paying the price?!"

Levi adjusted his pillow casually and replied with a completely innocent look, "Couldn't be helped. To deal with those guys, I had to use my power, and my power works that way."

"I know that! I'm just complaining! I went there to help you, but why do I still have to pay the cost?!"

Kiana grumbled furiously.

If something like this had happened without her knowing, she would've already performed a live "Kaslana Craniotomy" on whoever caused it.

———

[Kiana: (holding small scissors.gif)]

[Kiana: (You think I'm bluffing?.jpg)]

Seeing the memes she sent of herself, Levi almost couldn't hold back his laughter.

[When did you take so many stupid pictures of yourself? I'm dying here.]

[I just took them. Pretty good, huh?]

[Pretty good! You're a born Saint of Silly Energy!]

Outside, Cloud Knights passed by. Levi held in his laughter for a while before replying, [Don't worry… I won't do anything weird.]

After all, he wasn't a pervert.

He just wore a slightly different hat than most people.

Anyone who called him a pervert... would die.

Seeing his message, Kiana pouted. [And you still say that's not weird enough?]

[Not talking anymore. It's almost dawn here. I'm going to ask my aunt why she told me to wake her up at four!]

[Right, it's daytime here...]

Levi froze, glanced at the faint morning light outside, and checked the time.

5 a.m.…

He remembered that dealing with Sanctum Medicus hadn't taken much time, so how the hell was it suddenly morning already?

'Who the hell hypnotized me?!'

The thought made him panic for a second as he checked his body.

Thankfully, everything was fine.

After a brief moment of relief, Levi figured it must've been the chat group syncing everyone's time zones.

Daytime was daytime for everyone, nighttime was nighttime.

No one existed in another's opposite time.

That was… kind of convenient, actually.

Rubbing his eyes, Levi yawned and sat up, pretending he had just woken.

When he opened the door and saw the broken window, his face went blank.

"Who broke my window?!"

A passing Cloud Knight quickly replied, "You didn't hear? Last night, a notorious thief hit this area of Starskiff Haven!"

"Lots of people's windows were smashed. You're lucky you didn't wake up, those who did were all killed, their bodies dragged hundreds of meters through the street! Scary stuff!"

After saying that, the Cloud Knight turned around briskly like an overworked employee finishing his shift and headed out of Starskiff Haven.

"Damn! I walk that loud every night, and this guy sleeps through that? I envy his sleep quality…"

Unlike him, constantly woken up by his roommates' snoring and stinky feet.

Watching the Cloud Knight leave, Levi raised his chin proudly.

'Hmph! Envy me all you want, but you'll never have it!'

Still, Jing Yuan had been pretty clever, coming up with such a neat excuse to cover the truth.

Glancing down the street, even after cleaning, faint red stains still marked the ground.

It was hard to imagine just how many people that "thief" had dragged.

Levi smirked. "Poor Sanctum Medicus."

Then his gaze turned toward his system interface, rubbing his hands together.

———

"Bastard!"

Inside the Alchemy Division, Dan Shu sat in her room, face full of fury as she read the letter in her hands.
