Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 Master Of Enchanting

Chapter 21 Master Of Enchanting

The sun peeked over the horizon and its warm glow slipped between my eyelashes, gently nudging me awake. I blinked slowly, my vision filling with the sight of a vast green meadow stretching endlessly around me. Dewdrops clung to each blade of grass, sparkling like tiny gems as the morning light washed over them. A soft breeze drifted across the field, brushing against my skin and making the grass sway in gentle waves. Birds chirped cheerfully from distant trees, and the rooster's crow echoed faintly from some far-off farmstead welcoming a brand-new morning.

Alex stirred, still half-dazed, and pushed himself up on his elbows.

"Hmmm… did I really fall asleep in this field?" he muttered, squinting at the open sky as if it might answer.

He sat up fully and brushed stray grass off his clothes. Then he patted himself down his pockets, his belt, the small pouches on his clothing checking everything with quick, precise movements.

"Phew… lucky nothing's missing," he sighed in relief. "Well, I did put all the important items in my inventory, so that's a good call."

He rose to his feet, stretching his arms wide. His shoulders popped lightly.

"Yaaawn… fiuh," he exhaled, running a hand through his messy hair. "My body feels so light."

He took a deep breath, letting the crisp morning air fill his lungs, then glanced around the peaceful meadow one last time. The distant mountains were wrapped in a thin lavender mist, and the faint rustle of leaves added to the serene rhythm of nature waking up.

Satisfied, Alex hopped down from the small slope he had slept on and began making his way toward Riverwood, his boots brushing through the soft grass as the golden sunlight followed behind him like a gentle companion.

As usual, Riverwood welcomed him with its gentle morning embrace. Dew clung to every leaf, glittering softly as sunlight filtered through the tall pines. A cool mist drifted above the river's surface, and the steady flow of water created a calming melody like nature humming a quiet lullaby. The faint scent of damp wood, fresh earth, and warm hearth smoke mixed in the air, unmistakably Riverwood.

Alex walked along the wooden path, his steps light as he inhaled the crisp morning air. Villagers slowly began their routines doors opening, soft chatter from homes, the occasional clucking of chickens wandering freely across the road. A dog barked lazily, stretching beneath a porch before settling back down.

He approached the blacksmith's area where the rhythmic shrrrng… shrrrng… of metal scraping against a whetstone echoed steadily. The blacksmith stood with his back slightly hunched, muscles flexing as he sharpened a sword with practiced precision. Sparks occasionally flickered off the blade.

Alex cleared his throat politely.

"Sir, may I borrow your forge for a bit?"

The blacksmith didn't turn his eyes fixed on the edge of the blade, jaw tight in concentration. But he replied immediately, voice deep and steady.

"Go ahead. I'm busy here, so feel free to use it."

Alex nodded, even though the man hadn't looked at him.

"Thank you."

He rolled up his sleeves and stepped toward the forge. Heat radiated from the coals, warming his face as he began working. He melted down his gold, the metal glowing orange before settling into bright, molten pools. He poured them into ingot molds, the satisfying clunk echoing as each cooled enough to handle. Once the ingots were ready, he moved to the workbench, hammer in hand.

Clang!

Clang!

Clang!

Strike after strike echoed through Riverwood, mixing with the river's soft song. Sweat formed on Alex's forehead, dripping slowly down his cheek. His arms moved rhythmically lift, strike, turn, strike each motion smoother and quicker than the last. The scent of hot metal and burning coal filled the air around him as he shaped ring after ring.

Time passed unnoticed.

Two hours later, his breath slightly heavy, he placed the last polished ring onto the growing pile beside him. Forty-five gold rings gleamed brightly under the morning sun.

A faint notification rippled through his awareness:

Smithing 25 → 38

Alex wiped his forehead with the back of his hand, a small proud smile tugging at his lips as he admired his handiwork.

Alex made his way through the village, passing by wooden houses and the familiar scent of pine resin and chimney smoke. Eventually, he stood before the Riverwood Trader the modest, two-story house with a hanging wooden sign that read "General Goods." The door creaked softly as he pushed it open.

A small bell jingled overhead.

Inside, the shop felt warm and cozy. Sunlight filtered through the windows, illuminating floating dust particles like tiny golden sparks. Shelves lined the walls, stacked with miscellaneous goods: potions, pelts, weapons, lanterns, and what looked like half-broken trinkets someone might buy "just in case." The air smelled faintly of old parchment and pinewood.

The shopkeeper, Lucan, stood behind the counter with his arms crossed, a welcoming smile creeping onto his face.

"Ah, welcome. What can I help you with today?"

Alex approached, placing a small pouch of coins on the counter.

"I'm here to buy soul gems whatever you have."

Lucan's eyes brightened. "Ah, a mage! Or perhaps an enchanter? Either way, I have some soul gems in stock."

He bent down behind the counter, rummaging through a wooden crate. The sound of clinking stones and glass filled the room. One by one, he placed them on the counter petty gems glowing faintly with blue light, lesser gems swirling with a soft mist.

Alex inspected each with focused eyes, picking one up, turning it slightly, tapping it with his fingertip to feel the resonance.

"Hmm… good quality," he whispered.

After selling the Daedra Heart earlier, his coin purse still held a hefty 4,540 gold, which he carefully opened, counting out coins with a rhythmic clink… clink… clink.

Petty and lesser soul gems filled or empty were incredibly affordable compared to higher-tier ones. He mentally reviewed the soul gem market prices, recalling them instinctively:

Petty: 10–80 gold

• Lesser: 25–120 gold

• Common: 50–250 gold

• Greater: 100–450 gold

• Grand: 200–1,000 gold

Alex tapped the counter lightly in thought, then nodded to himself.

"I'll take all of these."

Lucan raised a brow, surprised but pleased.

"All of them? Well, that's good business for me!"

Alex bought twenty-five filled petty soul gems and ten filled lesser gems. With the remaining gold, he added twenty empty petty and ten empty lesser gems to his purchase.

Lucan shoved the gems into a cloth bag with practiced motions, tying the string tight.

"Pleasure doing business!"

Alex smiled politely. "You too."

As he stepped out of the shop, he couldn't help but chuckle quietly.

"The system doesn't even show Speech skill here… In the game, I only get a few dialogue options. But here? I can talk however I want."

The thought made him feel strangely free.

He returned to the Riverwood inn, moving past the wooden tables and the faint smell of cooked meat until he reached the hidden door leading to Delphine's secret room. Once inside, the air grew still and quiet lit only by a single lantern on the desk. The room felt secluded, like a tiny pocket cut off from the world.

Alex laid out all the materials he had collected soul gems, rings, and old enchanted items awaiting to learn. With every enchantment he performed, light flared from his hands, swirling around the table, shaping and reshaping into glowing patterns.

Hours passed in silence, broken only by the hum of magic and Alex's steady breathing. His movements became smoother, his gestures more confident as his understanding deepened.

A soft chime echoed in his mind:

Enchanting 43 → 70

Followed by another:

Main Level Up: 30 → 31

Breathing out softly, exhausted but satisfied, Alex stepped away from the enchanting table.

"…Whew."

He climbed onto the small cot in the corner of the hidden room and closed his eyes. Just a short rest just enough to finalize the level-up.

When he woke, he checked his status:

Status

• Main Level: 31

• Perk Points: 8 → 9

• Health: 200

• Stamina: 160

• Mana: 240 → 250

He stared at the glowing numbers floating before him.

"Not bad… not bad at all," he murmured, stretching his fingers with a small, satisfied grin.

Alex opened his status window with a subtle flick of his fingers, the translucent blue interface shimmering to life before him. Rows of numbers and symbols floated in the air, gently pulsing like runes waiting to be read.

He exhaled softly.

"Hmm… I have a lot of perk points," he murmured, rubbing his thumb against his palm thoughtfully. "I should allocate them."

He raised his hand toward the interface. As his fingertips hovered close, the runes brightened, responding to his intent. One by one, he tapped each perk, the system chiming faintly like crystal bells.

Destruction – 50

A crackle of blue lightning sparked across the window as the Destruction branch expanded.

Alex's eyes narrowed in focus.

Augmented Shock (2/2):

With a tap, the arcane symbol for shock magic glowed brighter, electricity dancing across his fingertips.

Shock spells deal 50% more damage.Impact:

When he selected this one, a ripple spread outward like a shockwave.

Most Destruction spells stagger when dual-cast.

Alex nodded, satisfied, then swiped over to the next skill tree.

Enchanting – 70

Golden light swirled as the Enchanting branch opened. The runes here pulsed like embers in a forge, warm and alive.

He tightened his grip slightly, excitement flickering in his eyes.

Enchanter (3/5 → 4/5):

When he enhanced the perk, the rune dimmed then flared to a brighter intensity

New enchantments are now 80% stronger.Storm Enchanter:

A gust of arcane wind swept across the interface, followed by a faint rumble.

Shock enchantments on weapons and armor are 25% stronger.Insightful Enchanter:

The symbol shifted to a stylized gauntlet and spellbook.

Skill enchantments on armor are 25% stronger.Corpus Enchanter:

His heartbeat echoed faintly in his ears as the rune glowed in colors of red, blue, and green.

Health, magicka, and stamina enchantments are 25% stronger.

Finally, the window dimmed slightly as the remaining perk point count dropped.

Perk Points: 9 → 2

Alex lowered his hand, the interface fading away like mist. He released a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.

"Nice…" he whispered, a slow grin spreading across his face. "With this, I should be able to make armor that reduces magicka cost by 100%."

His eyes gleamed with excitement.

Reaching into his inventory, he pulled out a brilliant Grand Soul Gem its core swirling with captured, roaring energy. The light inside flickered violently, like a lightning storm trapped in glass.

He rolled it in his palm, feeling the faint vibration from the powerful soul within.

"Thanks to that… negotiation session with the Dremora," he muttered with a smirk.

Then he reached again and retrieved a simple, unenchanted silver ring, holding it delicately between his fingers. The polished band reflected the lantern light from the secret room.

Alex exhaled, centering himself as he prepared to begin the experiment.

Alex held the unenchanted ring between his fingers, the cool metal glinting faintly under the warm lantern light of Delphine's secret room. The walls around him were lined with old maps, dusty shelves, and crates filled with forgotten Blades equipment. The quiet hum of enchantment residue lingered in the air, mixing with the faint scent of old books and metal.

Just as he was about to begin the process, a sudden thought struck him like a spark.

He froze.

"Wait…"

He slowly lifted his gaze, eyes narrowing in thought.

"In Skyrim, you can only wear one ring and one necklace…" He tapped the ring lightly against his palm, pacing a small circle around the table. "But what about here? This world isn't limited by game mechanics."

The excitement hit him instantly. His eyes widened almost glowing with curiosity and mischief.

A grin crept across his lips, stretching bigger by the second.

Without wasting another moment, he tightened his grip on the Grand Soul Gem and pressed his other hand over the ring. Light flared between his palms soft at first, then intensifying into a swirling vortex of blue and gold. The gem pulsed like a heartbeat, sending arcs of magic into the ring until it glowed brightly.

Fortify Destruction: -20% Magicka Cost

He created one ring, then another, each glowing with identical arcane patterns.

He placed both on the table and inhaled sharply.

"Okay… let's see if this actually works."

He slid the first ring onto his finger cold at first, then warm as the enchantment synchronized with him.

Then he picked up the second ring.

His throat tightened with anticipation.

"Here goes nothing."

He slipped it on.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then the air around him shifted like the atmosphere itself took a breath. The magicka inside him hummed louder, surging smoothly through his veins. He quickly flipped open his spell interface mentally and checked the mana consumption numbers.

Lightning Bolt

51 → 26

His jaw dropped. Then

"Hahaha IT WORKS!" he exploded, throwing his arms up. His laughter echoed through the hidden room, triumphant and slightly unhinged. "I'm going to become the strongest person in Skyrim! Hahaha!"

He did a small, excited hop, nearly knocking over a crate behind him.

He pressed a hand against his chest, trying to catch his breath.

"This is insane… at this rate, I don't even need to worry about the dangers out there."

His smile softened, turning more contemplative as he gazed at his glowing hands.

"And what about when my enchanting reaches 100?" he whispered. "And I unlock Extra Effect… I'll be able to put two enchantments on a single item."

He slowly sat down at the table, elbows resting on the surface, fingers steepled in front of his mouth.

He couldn't hide the grin creeping back up.

"I'll be unstoppable," he muttered, voice low and thrilled.

His mind began racing, imagining the possibilities armors with maxed-out reductions, weapons with devastating effects, talismans granting absurd boosts.

"With this, I'm completely free…"

But his excitement faded slightly as another thought entered his head. He leaned back, eyes drifting toward the wooden ceiling, listening to the faint creaks of the inn above.

If he became too powerful… too obvious… would he still be able to enjoy this world?

He imagined the wind rolling over snowy plains… the quiet forests… the breathtaking skies…

Skyrim's untouched beauty.

He sighed softly.

"I won't put Skyrim under my feet… I'll save it," he said quietly but firmly, resolve sharpening in his eyes.

"And after Alduin is dead, I'll explore the map from one edge to the other. Every mountain. Every ruin. Every hidden place."

An eager, impatient smile stretched across his face like a child imagining a long-awaited adventure.

After drifting into daydreams for several minutes, he blinked and snapped back to reality.

"Oh right rings. I still have more to enchant."

He returned to work, hands steady as he channeled magic again. Rings glowed, sparks flew, and the air pulsed with arcane warmth.

Rings Crafted:

• (5) Fortify Destruction 20%

• (3) Resist Fire 35%

• (2) Fortify Restoration 20%

A soft chime resonated:

Enchanting 70 → 73

Alex wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, exhaling with satisfaction.

"Now… no dragon breathing fire will scare me," he said, crossing his arms confidently.

But his smile faltered just slightly.

His gaze shifted toward the doorway, shadows flickering on the wooden frame.

"I should keep this a secret… and only share it with people I truly trust," he murmured. His fingers curled slightly, gripping his arm. "I don't want to become a fugitive just because I'm good at this."

He swallowed, nerves tingling… yet confidence still burning in his eyes.

For a few quiet seconds, Alex was still admiring his newly enchanted rings, their faint blue glow reflecting off the wooden walls of Delphine's hidden chamber.

Then

"Help me! Please someone!"

A terrified voice burst through the ceilingboards, sharp enough to make Alex flinch. The echo rattled through the small room like a warning bell.

His heart leapt into his throat.

"H-Huh?!"

He spun toward the ladder, panic tightening his chest. His boots scraped against the stone floor as he bolted toward the exit.

He came out from secret bookshelf, his breath coming fast.

The moment he got into the main room of the inn, he saw the innkeeper standing near the doorway, hands trembling as he glanced anxiously outside. The man looked pale, sweat glistening on his brow despite the morning chill.

"Uncle, what's happening?" Alex demanded, voice rushed, chest rising and falling rapidly.

The uncle didn't speak at first; he only lifted a shaking finger toward the window. Outside, the sky flickered with a massive passing shadow like a dark cloud with wings.

"A… a dragon flying over the sky!" the uncle finally stammered, voice cracking in fear.

From outside came the sounds of chaos children crying, people shouting, doors slamming, and the river splashing more violently as if disturbed by the vibrations in the air. The chickens behind the inn screeched and fluttered in panic, their feathers scattered across the dirt.

But Alex felt something completely different.

A spark.

A thrill.

A fire in his veins.

His eyes widened not with fear, but with anticipation. His fingers twitched with the itch to cast a spell. The enchanted rings on his hands pulsed faintly, like they could sense the danger and were eager to respond.

"I can't believe it," Alex whispered under his breath, excitement bubbling up into a grin. "A real dragon… right when I'm ready to test my magic."

He could hardly stand still. His feet shifted, muscles tense, breath quickening with pure exhilaration. He felt like an arrow drawn to full tension just waiting to be released.

"Alright," he said, gripping his fist tightly then pushing the door open with his shoulder. "I'll go out and help the others!"

Cold morning air rushed in, carrying the scent of pine, smoke, and distant fire. The ground trembled slightly as another roar rolled across the treetops.

Alex stepped outside, his cloak fluttering in the wind, eyes shining with determination.

At last

A chance to unleash everything.
